Vanessa Marcil Tweets Final General Hospital Tape Date!
Brenda has left the building! General Hospital superstar Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo tweeted the last tape date for her current stint on the sudser.

As much of a huge, huge, huge fan of Marcil Giovinazzo and Brenda as I am, this return was a lesson in sometimes you really can't go home again. From the wonky storylines about movie star boyfriends, Balkans, missing babies and charity work gone awry, to the once, fun, fiery Brenda basically suffering from what appeared to be Seasonal Affective Disorder for the past year, this return has been pretty much a bust.
Hopefully when Marcil Giovinazzo inevitably returns for the series finale, she will be afforded a story worth her legend and her time. In the meantime, how's about a second season of The Bannen Way?

Vanessa Marcil was the best thing to happen to GH in a climate of extremely poor ratings and the genre's overall decline. Ms. Marcil is pure charisma and talent on screen; there's a reason all her characters are so beloved. I fell in love with Brenda back in 1993 (when I also fell in love with GH) and watched until Ms. Marcil's departure in 1998. I came back in 2002-03 to watch her for 5 months -- and again in 2010-11.
The now fired head writer, Bob Guza, started messing up with Brenda's character in the late 90's. But so much of GH's magic and Ms. Marcil's own formidable talent overshadowed Guza's attempt to weaken Brenda's spirit and strength (ever the notorious misogynist!).
Then in 2002-03, Guza really turned Brenda's character into a whiny and weak woman. Still, tons of fans tuned in because, despite Guza and the new production team, Vanessa Marcil simply brings viewers. We all still loved Brenda, if hated Guza a bit more.
However, now in 2010-11 Guza and team so thoroughly butchered Brenda's character, as well as so many on the show, that no amount of talent or nostalgia could redeem the show or Ms. Marcil's return. I admit, I still watched ever scene she was in, but I found myself yelling at the screen and pointing out repeatedly what "the real Brenda" would do in that scenario. Sonny, Jax, Jason and Carly are also not the original, compelling characters they were.
At the very least, it was a pleasure to watch the gorgeous and still talented Ms. Marcil do what she could with her scripts.
I agree with Jamie Giddens: Vanessa Marcil is a "General Hospital superstar" and her character Brenda was once "fun" and "fiery". But producer Jill Phelps, writer Bob Guza and Daytime President Brian Frons have summarily ruined a once-great show and absolutely memorable character in Brenda Barrett Corinthos.
Let's hope Vanessa's return for GH's swan song can be written by old greats such as Clare Labine. And good luck to her in what is sure to be a successful future.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I love, love, love Vanessa Marcil. Maybe it's because she reminds me of a time (hi, 1996) when "General Hospital" was at the top of it's game or perhaps it's because she's essentially the ONLY woman on the planet that makes me question my homosexuality (wink, wink).
Love her and find her acting method FLAWLESS. Like Prince sung [about her in '93], "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World."

Adios, Brenda. Wish I could say it's been an enjoyable experience, but aside from a few of your scenes bantering with Jason and Carly, it really has been nothing but a boring disappointment!! Better luck elsewhere, Vanessa.
P.S-- I have heard her say in soap opera magazines that she's always dreamed of being a drama teacher. I think she might wanna start reconsidering her career options, because if her latest stint on GH is any indication of her TRUE acting prowess, I'm willing to bet that her career as an actress won't go much further in primetime, daytime or film. It seems that she's simply forgotten how to act.
And you can only blame the writers and producers sooo much for her lackluster acting choices.

I captured her clips on Youtube. Vanessa Marcil Garbonzobean (lol) wasn't the same as I remembered her back in 90's. I don't know if she wasn't really feeling it or wasn't giving it her all. But the return of the century as it was said in the press turned out to be the Let Down of the century. She's cute...Pretty...Damn near intoxicating. Yet I think she got use to primetime where all you have to do is focus on 1 to 8 pages of dialogue at the most. That proves that doing daytime is the toughest job in show business.

THANK GOD!!! I heard all of the oohhs and aahhs about how she was so wonderful and how they wanted her back on GH. Having this as my first Brenda experience. I must say that she sucked!! She spends most of her time crying and whining.
I will be soooo happy when she is gone...her and Jax will probably ride off into the sunset together.

I think she should go back to school, get her degree and become an acting teacher, since that seems to be where her heart lies. But I do hope she RELEARNS how to act before she tries to teach others the craft!! We all know that saying about the blind leading the blind..........

I kinda tuned out the JaSam scenes today. The only part I remember was the
Ethan/Maya breakup scenes, which will go down as some of the most BORING breakup scenes I have ever seen in my life. Ethan sees his wife in bed with another man and there's no confrontation? Throwing object? Yelling and screaming?? Well, I guess they should be applauded for being mature and adult about the situations, but I like my breakups messy and filled with heavy drama. I'm old school!!

Nothing is more frustrating to me as a viewer than to have someone bring a character back that is loved for a short term (in the case, a longer time than most) stint and eat up the airtime and then just leave...as much fun as Brenda was during Vanessa's original run, these "visits" back to PC just mess with the show in a negative way.

I love the actress but this time the story for the character was not good although I did love seeing Adrienne B.
She said in the Michael Logan interview she will return when GH ends whenever that may be. Interesting to see how a new writer would handle Brenda.

Come on over to Genoa City and CBS where the REAL female star of "GH" 'Lore-a" is currently airing. Based on feedback of Brenda's return, I think Genie Francis's storyline is a hellova lot better (and that's not saying much!)

The way this comeback was over-hyped and oversold by ABC and some elements of the media, nobody in the world could live up to that. I liked Brenda the first time around, but I never saw her as the greatest thing since sliced bread. So I can't say I was extremely disappointed by the way things turned out. The GH that exists in my head is not all about Sonny and his satellite women.
A lot of people bought into the hype and set themselves up for their own letdown.

She took on the name before she got married.
I look at Brenda from the past, and she really was pretty in her day.
Her looks alone got her by. (then)
Now I think she should look for another career choice altogether.

There was no sexual tension this time around and we needed that. When Brenda was on the last time my screen practically melted with her and Jason's sexual tension and the marriage and the whole thing. It was hot.
Even when Brenda and Sonny were together years ago, it was about the sexual tension between the mobster and the young ingenue. Well hell this time around she looks as old as he does and that loud guffawing laugh had me with a Scooby-Doo confused--well u know the sound.
