Two Steps Forward, Seventeen Steps Backward: DAYS Fires Crystal Chappell

Crystal is too talented to be out of a job.

IDIOTS. Sometimes I'm convinced that DAYS is run, written and produced by a room full of monkeys. Today is one of those days.

Here's hoping "The Grove" is as wonderful as "Venice" and that CC's web series empire takes over the world...then someday when DAYS gets cancelled and is looking for a home CC can tell Ken to suck it.

Crystal is immensely talented, and perhaps she's better off leaving the increasingly UNSTABLE world of daytime television and focusing on her work BEHIND the screen. With most soaps tossing actresses over 40 in the recycling bin in favor of shirtless 20-somethings, it's best to get in where you fit in.

But I must say that it's sad that they let Crystal go so willy-nilly, considering the fact that she's one of the BEST actresses on DAYS. I guess being a popular, Emmy-winning actress doesn't really mean much anymore, does it? Oh well.....

I am sure that Crystal will thrive in spite of this setback.

Good grief! Nothing but more horrendous soap news. I came back to DAYS for Carly, being an original Carly fan. Higley completely screwed up her return. I simply cannot fathom how she kept her job for so long, and now they don't renew Crystal's contract? Are they mad? Well, as happy as I am that Jennifer is back and Jack will be too, I'll be leaving (again) with Carly. I was sooo excited when Higley was fired only to get socked with this. Unbelievable.

Worst news of the year (right in front of OLTL cancellation). Ken Corday you're a frickin idiot!!!!!! Your show will be canceled soon because of your stupidity. You should be begging CC to stay on your poorly written show because she is a ratings draw. Unless you did a recent poll with other idiots that told you something different. Even this fabulous addict s/l Carly was supposed to have was ruined by Dena Higley but at least CC brings it home with her awesome acting. I can't even sleep now I'm so upset. Ready to boycott in front of the studios!!!! I'm calling Corday tomorrow for sure.

How can you bring back a character that has been abused twenty years and kills her husband NOT to write a story about that abuse.

How can you have the characters Carly / Bo / Hope and not write a story about a triangle and love and betryal? Instead you write a story about a woman bopping people in the head.

They had CRYSTAL CHAPPELL and made her into a supporting Actress.

Days is mad... How brain cell deprived do you have to be to MUCK up a story this much.

Ms. Chappell write and produce your own stories!!! Those I and a multitude will watch.

That's it I give up days you've finally done it you've jerked me around for over a year and now you fire crystal!I'm not gonna force myself to watch Sami Taylor ej and rafe hell amc is better than this show why would they fire an amazing actress with a huge fanbase?

The only thing CC will miss is her paycheck. She got off that sinking ship fast enough. Let's be honest, CC wasn't challenged even for a moment on Days, she probably just assumes now she is free to create.

Like everyone has said, this is for the best (though I have seen those retched fan campaigns being thought of as an option and like drugs I say NO!).

While the show is scrambling (yet again) to save itself, Crystal will be off doing her. She needs to focus on the websoap thing and stay far away from daytime, b/c so far she's the only one that has found some type of success w/it and could be on to something great w/her new ventures.

It's a good thing CC has a back-up plan with the webisoaps. She was smart to work on a contingency plan, especially since soaps seem to not know what to do with actresses over 40. I wish her much success

I'm really rooting for her to get that Emmy now I came back to Days because of CC what a downer! They finally get rid of the hack so I was expecting some good storylines for her.

Wow CC's twitter account has been hilarious! She's being very blunt. That sucks. She was a great actress, however, I think this is one step closer to firing Melanie, YAY!

If you're a big Crystal/Carly fan this news has to grind your gears and piss you off. Yet I have to be real Days did nothing with her to show off her Emmy-winning talents! They refused to give a her storyline that could grip fans in who has never seen Carly Manning in the past. Dena blow a prime opportunity with the Carly/Bo/Hope storyline, it had potential, but failed! Now Carly is a junkie? And it all goes back to one person - Dena Higley! She totally ruined the character from the point of no return.

I'm so disappointed in Days! I can't believe how stupid they are! Well, actually, I can. but really?

How many friggin' mistakes can they make with a storyline?
1. No real triangle between Hope/Bo/Carly -It seemed like Hope and Carly were in separate storylines. Carly and Hope only had one big scene (at Maggie's house when Micky passed away) in a year and a half.
2. They threw Bo and Carly in bed bada bing. (Bo-"It's not as if we haven't done this before." Was the romantic way he put it. Oy.
3. Peter Reckel had to leave the show for 6 weeks because they did not want to pay him over his guarantee. They couldn't plan how many times they could use him?
4. They threw Carly into Danloe as a supporting player.
5. They put Carly on the backburner

I was worried for Crystal when she was on the backburner, but was happy to hear they were giving her a summer storyline. But so far they hardly have her on.

Crystal tweeted the new writers didn't make the decision to fire her, so it's Corday's blunder.

I am surprised she has another web show in the works. One where she plays a woman married to Jessica Leccia? Is this a 'do over' show? So what happens to Venice? How can you have two shows going where you play the same thing with the same co-star? Interesting to see how this shakes out. I hope it works out for her.

I still can't believe I won't get to see Crystal on tv regularly -for free.

NOOOOOOOOOOO! After Dena completely botched her return and then put her on the backburner and then made her a junkie I was hoping the new writers would pen her a good storyline where she would be front and center so she display her mad talent. Now she's fired. Shame on you Ken. I'm going to miss Carly and i'm especially going to miss her friendship with Jennifer.
CarJenn is one of my favorite friendships in soaps.

This seems to be a pattern on soaps bring someone back who was popular to poor writing and a lackluster return. Look at OLTL with Gina and GH with Vanessa and all those casting stunts at Y&R with big names that have done nothing for the show. This should tell people that not even the likes of the great MAB and RC who is raved about here can do these actors justice forget Dena Higley. I shudder how RH's return is going to turn out at OLTL. Its already IMO a disappointment.

Regardless, these shows continue to use and abuse actors. CC's return never panned out and she's 10 times smarter than anyone there is. While Corday is busy playing favorites and out on the golf course and killing the show his parents built, CC is busy building one of the next generation of soaps. If only Carly could take that useless Daniel and Melanie with her when she leaves canvas.

Ugh...so much for me going to DAYS when All My Children ends. Crystal C was the only reason I watched the horsepuckey that unfolded on the screen.

Well, what can I say...I love soaps, I support the soaps, but without Carly being on DAYS I doubt I'll watch. She's the reason I came back to the show after an absence of about 15 years, the only reason I've endured these doppelgangers and contrived "stories," and these days when she's not on for several days in a row I get bored. So...

And the show runners at DAYS are idiots, there I said it, Miss Silverlining said it. You don't bring back a super popular character, played by one of the best actresses on daytime, and just squander/botch it. Oh, wait, lots of shows have been doing that lately. Reason #937 the genre is tanking.

Part of me thinks the only thing Crystal will miss about DAYS are the paycheck, the friends, and the possibilities. Maybe she won't miss the possibilities...she's making her own happen. She's a smart cookie and is invested in the genre, so I hope her own endeavors show 'em all how it's done. Onward!

It is hardly the first time a show hired a very talented actress and did not use her to her potential. Carly has not been a good fit throughout this run of Days. One could say it is the writing (because Dena Higley is the accidental writer. She just bumps into a story on accident. Unfortunately she has just not bumped into the right story for Carly). The new writers have something in mind that apparently did not have to do with Carly. If they can use CC's considerable pay check to help fix this so broken show, it will be worth losing her. As it is, it is painful to watch her play out bad material anyway.

I think Ken Corday was jealous that a little lonely ol actor could write, produce and act in a web series with no money and friends that would work for free only to have her show be more successful than his longtime running network fiasco!

The Days execs must be monkeys who live under rocks and don't know how to read fan forums and letters. That's got to be why we have been subjected to the Fafe storyline, unrealistic medical storylines and subjected to unpopular characters like Gabi, Dario, Taylor instead of fan favorites.

What Ken Corday & Co has no clue how to do, Crystal Chappell did with no money, loyal friends and created a new genre that people are coming to her to be a part of.

People love Crystal so much that we are willing to pay our hard earned money to see her and with the economy such as it is, that's huge!!!

I hope that Crystal wins her Emmy for Venice on June 19th and shoves it straight into Ken Corday's face and says "suck it little turtle, suck it!" quoting a line from Venice's Gina.

Come Crystal's last day to air on Days, I will have gained an hour back in my day.

Days you just lost me as a viewer. I'm done!

Dena really did a poor job of writing for Crystal (Carly). I am sad to see Carly go, as Crystal is such a solid performer, but I am not really surprised. Best of luck, Crystal! I do wonder if it will eventually mean a departure for Daniel and Melanie.

Crystal made it very clear in her tweets that her departure was NOT connected to the new writers at all.

I'm glad. I LOVED Carly from 1990-93 (she was my favourite Days character, and when she left, Carrie and Marlena moved into her position), but her return was a dud. The Carly who returned in 2009 was not the Carly I fell in love with in the 90s. Hopefully Days is clearing house to bring back vets like Deidre and Drake.

Maybe with Carly leaving, they're planning on sending her out with Daniel and Melanie. Now that Jack's coming back I don't see Daniel/Jennifer going anywhere for very long

Oh, and I just wanted to add, I'm a CC fan, but TIIC botched up her return so badly that I really won't miss Carly. There was so much potential for a wonderful triangle between Carly, Bo and Hope, but that triangle was never written. I'm not a Melanie fan, she can go with Carly. It's a shame that TPTB got rid of Nathan, a HORTON, yet kept Melanie, and brought on Dario (whom I find to be a complete bore)

If only this news of CC being let go would lead to Deidre Hall and Drake Hogysten coming back. DOOL needs John and Marlena!

Melanie and Daniel had better leave with her!! My ideal exit involves Nikki returning (played by Erik von Detten), patching things up with Carly, and meeting his sister Melanie. Then Carly's brother Frankie returns and they all held to Europe to explore the von Leuschner family history.

I honestly believe these could be the way out of Melanie. She is slowly losing her ties. This is especially true if there is new writers.
