Why? Honestly, why? The character is a jerk and he's not a great actor. Why is he needed him on this show? These are the same people who fired Maura West. Currently, TPTB have incredibly poor judgement in casting and running this show. Y&R is a train wreck.

I'm not really excited about this. This better not mean more Heather time. I have a feeling he'll just be used as her prop.

Come on, Ronan and Heather! Come on, come on, come on!

Nina needs a story, so the only bright spot about his return is generating story for her.

He didn't generate any story for her last time so I doubt he will now. I wonder if they will try to throw Chloe at him again, even though they were a big flop the last time.

I wonder if he collected Jana's body. It went missing and was never explained who collected the body. I'd figure his adopted parents were Jana's parents. I thought it might be Ryder, but I don't think he is coming back.

I didn't care for any story Ronan was involved in but I found the fact he was a bit of a jerk interesting rather than off-putting for a romantic lead and Jeff Branson is a good actor. Plus any excuse to use Nina is good in my book.
What annoys me the most here is that the obvious reason he was off was that he desperately wants to be in prime-time, obviously didn't get any role/pickup for next season so is going back to his fallback option. I strongly suspect he was one of the two people Muhney was referring too in a recent podcast that told him daytime was just a placeholder for "real jobs".
I admit that colors a bit my appreciation of his performances. But worse for worse they do have a story to wrap up.

Wrong. He generated the story about his being her long lost son, as well as the kidney transplant drama.

Why bring him back just to saddle him with Eden Riegel's HORRIFIC version of Heather?? They had as much chemistry fungus has with my shower curtain. If they want to bring him back on to provide story for Nina and give him an INTERESTING love interest, then I think they definitely should, but this show already has what seems like 50 cast members as it is. More bloated than Hogan Sheffer after a double order of cheese fries!!!
If they are going to bring him back to only show him once every three months, I really don't see the point. Heck, they barely even show NINA. I'd rather see him live on in one-sided phone calls to Nina and occasional mentions in passing.

That's so funny. I remembered the Character of Ronan this morning while watching yesterday's epi of Chance & Nina talking, and wondered if he'd ever resurface. (I wouldn't recomend a CHANCE day of y&r in the early AM hours. That snooze fest THAT CAN'T 'GET BACK TO AFGANASTAN' fast enough counteracted my morning java.
Shut UP, Nina and let him GOOOOO!!
*Chance and NuHeather. AWFUL.

Oh, I think Chloe and Ronan hardly a flop. In fact, to me, I thought they were fantastic and I know quite a few others who felt the same.
What was a flop was then dropping the chemistry Chloe/Ronan had to then pair Chloe with Kevin and Ronan with Heather--THOSE have been flops to me, particularly the latter.
I think JB is a terrific, charismatic actor and I really liked Ronan for the first several months he was on the screen. It's only when they gave him and insta-illness w/ his liver and a insta-romance with Heather that I started ffwding through the character.
I'm excited about his return as long as they give him a GOOD story that is far away from ER's dreadful version of Heather and focuses on TC's fantastic Nina and hopefully EH's Chloe. He was great in his scenes with those two ladies.
An aside...MAB has an absolute wealth of talent at her disposal. To the extent characters like MW's Diane and JB's Ronan fail, I put that firmly on MAB's shoulders and not the actors themselves. These actors can absolutely bring it when required. But when they are put in lame storylines like Diane basically just playing the town bike and Ronan developing an illness out of the blue and suddenly sleeping with a character he previously could care less about (Heather) that these characters fail. And that's on the WRITING.

Yeah, I thought Ronan and Chloe were great; in fact, the only character she's been remotely as interesting with is Billy(Chance was a bust cuz he's secretly gay and Kevin's a bust cuz...oh right, the gay thing. Redundant much?). I wasn't crazy about him being an even bigger dick than he already was once his reasons for coming to town were revealed, but I could look and listen to Jeff Branson all day so I'm more than okay with him coming back. On another note, congrats to Eden Riegel on her baby boy! Here's hoping she has the longest maternity leave in daytime history.

Funny thing is is that I was also just wondering about Ronan and that incredibly weird suddenly seemingly ended story line.
As for Nina ... of course Ronan generated story lines involving Nina to a great extent. Where were you during those times Carol2?
ChrisGa ... I was also thinking that Chance seemed to be in an awful big hurry to get back to tenting with his military pals.

Welcome to DC. Guess this is your first post.
I thought Heather/Ronan were dreadful. At least ER is on maternity leave for now so maybe we will get a few blissfully Heather-free weeks of Ronan back on GC.

I remember a lot of scenes with Ronan/Chance, Ronan/Chloe, Ronan/Heather. Nina was there, but most of her beats in the story were rushed, and she was used to push story for others, like when they tried to use her to generate sympathy for Chloe during all the time spent on Chloe obsessing over both men (until the show gave up and basically had them both dump her on the side of the road). I remember a lot of time on Ronan's insta-illness and how this affected Heather, with Ronan taking off his shirt in the "snow" to make snow angels.
I never felt like there was any real interest in Nina or in her relationships with anyone in this story.
It was also a cheat for the show to say that Ronan's biological father and his adoptive parents were dead. Another way to ignore interesting storyline in favor of more of a bored-looking Jeff Branson mumbling through scenes with Chloe and Heather.

As long as he comes back and Chance is NOT there I am ok with it. I always thought they had this sick S&M situation going where Ronan would brow beat and boss Chance around and Chance would glow like a 10 year old girl in love. It was weird being that they were brothers and supposed to be str8. When they first brought Ronan on, I was convinced that he was brought on to be Chance's boyfriend because they had this chemistry that Chance simply did not have with the girls. I am hoping for Ronan and Chloe. Much more interesting than Ronan and Heather. But then Heather has zero spark at all as a character (even less than Amelie has as Victoria and that is saying alot).

Whats the point without Chance? The best stories would be between the two brothers WITHOUT Heather.
I very disappointed they didn't develop Phillip Chancellor IV. He should have his brother, he should have a decent love interest, and should be an executive in training at his grandfathers company just like the Abbott and Newmans have their second generation involved. Kay's getting very old, she and Jill should be grooming him.

Jeff Branson is obviously a rather good looking man but as Ronan there always seemed to be something missing. I don't think he had chemistry with any woman Genoa City and all looked forced and strained. Ditto for Chance. But come on, a virgin at his age after a couple of stints overseas? Chance should have been a bit more masculine and rough instead of being all wholesome. Wholesome is just not interesting.
For all of you (us) wishful thinkers though ... it would be rather juicy if Nina found out that she has not one but two gay sons to add to her FOD collection. Chance is now on his way back to cavort with his military pals so he will be out of the picture until his supreme makeover. I highly doubt there are any plans at all for Ronan being caught listening to Wicked or show tunes but a pairing with the lovelorn Rafe could be scintillating.

I'm with you. He was terrific with Nina & Chloe. It was insta-illness & -romance with Heather that screwed him over. His exit was too abrupt(& nonsensical for that matter) imo for him NOT to come back. Not that writers haven't made those type of permanent exits for characters, but I'm glad it's not the case here.

JB's overrated and I am not looking forward to his return. Y&R's cast is overblown and instead of bringing "name" actors and useless characters like JB/Ronan I wish the show would tighten up its cast and storylines. Perhaps I could be more interested in the non-Newman/Abbott stories if characters were not in silos and mixed it up abit. Now, we only see Black characters in scenes with the Black characters and we get a Baldwin/Fisher clan day that feels like it goes no where.

I used to think JB was overrated--I thought he was awful on AMC--but I was pleasantly surprised at how charismatic he actually is when he's playing Ronan. Or, again, it might just be that I REALLY like looking at him(not to mention he has one of the sexiest voices I've heard come out of man's body).
As for Sir Chancelot, I've said it a million times before; TPTB should have made the character gay instead of wasting the time and energy of bringing back Phillip and making him gay. Chance has ZERO chemistry with any of the women on this show(frankly, I don't think he even has a lot of chemistry with Tricia Cast and that takes a lot of work to pull of in my opinion); yeah he's a sweet guy and he'd make a great gay BFF for Chloe or someone else, but as a romantic lead? No offense to JD, but I didn't see it. Now, him and JB? THAT is another story altogether; those two had better chemistry together than with anyone either of them were paired with. Still, if TPTB had any sense they would've paired him with Rafe; Yani Gellman is not only very good looking but he's actually a pretty decent actor. I suspect those two would've been pretty good together.
Or, they could just ship Chance off, bring John Driscoll back as a Chance doppelganger, and make HIM gay. Cuz ya know this show's light on doppelgangers right now
.

I kind of wish it had turned out that Ronan WASN'T Nina's son after all and just conned them to get a kidney...then she and Paul could have teamed up to find the REAL Aidan Lansing.
With Chance out of the way, I hope Ronan stops acting like a jerk and starts acting like a real son to Nina.

^^very funny comment about the doppelgangers. I think John Driscoll is a horrible actor and I am not sure why he has ever been given an acting job. He was so terrible as Coop on GL for years and his turn as Chance makes me reach for the mute button. I just don't get it. Chance recast and gay could make for a more interesting character. Are their any gay characters on daytime beside Bianca on AMC and Rafe on Y&R? That's sad given its 2011 and just two years ago there were two very popular gay male couples (OLTL's Kish and ATWT's Luke/Noah.)
I digress.
Regarding JB, I did like him as Jonathan Lavery on AMC when he slapped the ish out of Maggie but he went back to being an one-note actor in an one-note role. He has grown as an actor but I don't think earned an Emmy for his work on GL (at least it was a tie with Vincent Irrizary) and is generally overrated.

I wish they'd get rid of John Driscoll and hire Tom Pelphrey to play Chance. That way he and Jeff could play brothers again, as they did on "Guiding Light." Tom would be sooo much better suited for this role, not to mention more multi-dimensional. He'd be amazing in scenes with Tricia Cast, Doug Davidson and everyone else in the cast.
Jeff is a good actor, in my opinion. I enjoyed him on AMC and GL. His writing on AMC was dreadful, but I think he delivered pretty damn good given what he was given to work with. I feel that his character on Y&R has not been properly fleshed out, which seems to be Maria's pattern. Bring someone on and thrust them headfirst into storyline without giving the audience any real reason to give a damn about them.
As Nina's son, there is SOOOOO much story potential for Jeff and this character. Maria needs to get her head out of her ass and stop focusing so much on WORTHLESS characters such as Caleb/Cane/whoever the FREAK he is......and start focusing on more interesting and relevant characters. But of course, she won't!! These writers treat Nina like some random redheaded stepchild, not a character who has been on this show for 25 years!!!

Cane and Caleb ... dumb and dumber (can I kill them Dad, can I can I? --- Can I make her my Aussie love slave/brood mare Dad, can I can I?)
But at least we have the long promoted star turn with the mother of all reveals to set things right. (Hopefully right off the screen.)
I guess Lily will realize just in time that she is not insane just stupid, find the letter and set the end game promptly in motion.
