By Jamey Giddens on April 14, 2011

Count Oscar-winning actresses among soap opera fans reeling tonight over the cancellations of All My Children and One Life to Live. Marlee Matlin, who is currently appearing on NBC's hit reality series Celebrity Apprentice, tweeted about her love of AMC and the time she met Susan Lucci and the late Ruth Warwick.

Who imagined that the Welcome to Pine Valley sign would ever come down? All My Children axed. Goodbye, Erica Kane. You were GREAT.
I remember how excited I was to meet Ruth Warwick, aka Phoebe Tyler and Susan Lucci, THE Erica Kane. Wonderful AMC memories.
I really don't think Disney and ABC realize the cultural ramifications of their actions. Unbelievable.

This is so nice to hear that this show touched so many lives, even those of celebrities. To me these shows could go on forever because they are an escape for me from my real life.

It's just so sad. These shows have been on as long as I can remember....not a good day in soap history.

Your right Jamey, ABC really does not realize the cultural ramifications of their actions.
They will be getting alot of backlash
Personally, I hope Oprah goes after him, she has love for the soaps. I want her to speak out about it.

Jamey- I hope you get some much needed rest tonight. This has drained us all. Im going to sleep on this now, and pray for all the people I have seen everyday since I was a kid. I hope when these shows go off maybe the empire state building will go dark. Its a sad day for NYC. These people have been not only our soap family, but they are our neighbors. I liked getting a glimpse of them running thru the streets to get where they needed to go. They were working, just like the rest of us. now they wont be. Thats not nice. My love to you all.

I feel bad for the fans, don't get your hopes up on being picked up by another network. ATWT & GL fans tried everything to save our soaps, even got the FBI involved, people were sending in soap, don't cancel our soap, thought it was anthrax, that didn't even work. Networks are heartless bastards, they fed us lies told us they were working hard in finding them a new home, don't buy the bullshit, if they have started that. We were screwed thought that Oprah would pick them up.

RE; the cultural ramifications. Twitter was trending #OneLifeToLive last night; don't think that's EVER happened. Don't forget, lots of stars and sports celebs watch the soaps, too b/c it fits into their schedules well. Rosie O'Donnell and Carol Burnett watch AMC, Snoop Dogg and Reba McEntire among others watch OLTL. If ABC thinks they got phone calls and letters over certain actors' firings, I'm sure they ain't seen nothin' yet.

Seee, even actors who've never been on soaps love them. As Ashley Mendoza from PVP would say "Suck it Brian Frons!"
