Regan Reax: Jake's Hit And Run, Day One

If you caught me on Twitter after I finished up GH, you saw I promised to save my reaction for the blog. So here it is, Jake’s Hit and Run, Day One, what I liked, loved and would have done differently.
I readily admit that my thumb was on the fast forward button during certain scenes. Sorry Brenda (Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo) and Sonny (Maurice Benard), your honeymoon plans and stupid giggles mean nothing to me. A baby is about to be run down and I wasn’t one of those people who gushed over your nuptials. I also could care less about your baby, Brenda. I did catch the snippet that Suzanne stashed the kid away with a family she met through ASEC; snooze, yawn. Brenda’s child does not interest me if it’s only a means to VMG's probable exit.
Now that I got the crap out of the way, let’s break it down. Steve Burton, Jonathan Jackson, Rebecca Herbst, Laura Wright, Ingo Rademacher, Tony Geary and yes, Chad Duell, great job! Actors do their THING with their eyes and faces. Anyone can spit out some lines. Bow down to Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) and those eyes. Jonathan Jackson (Lucky) is starting to give Mr. Burton a serious run for his money. Becky Herbst (Elizabeth Webber) shows true heartbreak like no other. Laura Wright (Carly Jacks) and Ingo Rademacher ‘s (Jax) scenes with Josslyn were fantastic and natural. Tony Geary (Luke Spencer) was fantastic and I would be remiss if I left out Chad Duell (Michael Corinthos III). Mr. Duell is definitely paying attention when playing with the big boys and learning.
I absolutely relish these stories that give us organic scenes between fan favorites Jason and Robin (Kimberly McCullough). I LOVED that Luke blurted out the truth about Jake’s paternity to Tracy (Jane Elliot) and she immediately jumped to the Quartermaine connection. I thought it was smart of the writers to not have Michael tell Carly he was already at GH and why. As annoyed as I expected to be with Josslyn’s cancer diagnosis, I found it to be well done and I wasn’t mad at Terrel’s explanation of things.
I wouldn’t be me if there weren’t a few things I would have done differently. First and most importantly to me, I would have had AT LEAST one Jason and Elizabeth scene. This is their son. The parents of this child should have had a scene together about their son who is in critical condition and heading into emergency surgery. Does Elizabeth even know Jason is there? While I loved Tracy immediately making the Quartermaine connection, I was thouroughly annoyed that we didn’t see / get some indication that she immediately called Edward to tell him he has another heir. How awesome would it have been if Edward (John Ingle) walked up and silently sat down with Jason when he was alone after Michael left to be with Josslyn?
It’s a long weekend ahead of us to wait for inevitable. So far, I’ve been impressed with the guts, I’m still upset over the outcome. I had high hopes for Jake. There was story potential there for year's to come and because of this impulsive, if brilliantly-acted arc, we lose all of that.

IA regan on every word!!
On Jason not seeing Liz,I wasn't happy w/Steve also I felt that Jason will not bring more pain to Liz.
BUT I have to say that I felt that it was the writers attempt to isolate Jason in this story,Jason always was alone w/this Jake SL,when Jason brought Liz to GH, when she bleeding Jason was alone looking at Jake's birth...
he always was the outside.. so now when Jake's dying Jason still is the outsider...
and again I hope hope we will have the Q's there w/Bobbie and gram..

Actually i was bored with the whole episode. I was not even impressed with the acting except for Johnathan Jackson, who, like always,is the best actor in every scene he is in. I wish they could give JMB a story like this (like Lulu having a miscarriage) because she could do a better job.
This whole thing seems like TIIC just slapped it together.Joss getting sick and diagnosed with cancer a few hours before Jake is hit is a obvious & STUPID plot point. I remember the BJ/Maxi transplant s/l.Maxi was sick & in the hospital for WEEKS before BJ was in the accident and the audience thought Maxi was going to die.Plus we got to see weeks of family members coming to the hospital to see Maxi (ironically Sonny & Brenda & Luke & Laura while she was pregnant with Lulu were among her visitors). It was really good angsty stuff. This is just CRAP

I agree but not 100%. The S&B stuff was useless and needless--every car in PC on the road was totally stupid. I hate that this has become a whodunnit crap s/l.
Becky--WOW! I felt her pain. I was pleasantly surprised with JJ because I'm not a fan, he didn't over act for once. SBu did okay but his scenes of this nature are always the same, the expression on his face is interchangeable with any number of scenes he has done before, I wasn't wowed by him but he pulled it off. The parents of the dying child not seeing each other was beyond asinine--the scene was not realistic in any way--no blood on Becky, no blood on little Jake's shirt--thought that scene of her folding it was a tear jerker.
LW & IR were really great trying to be positive in the face of possible disaster-- CD did well in his supportive role. Luke he was not too shabby I have a hard time watching the original deadbeat Dad of PC in a supportive role. JE is always good and it would have been ideal for the other Q's to know and be involved.
I wanted to enjoy the R&J scene but the Lisa stuff was there making you wonder why--so I didn't. SR played his part well but the character is presuming too much IMO. KM had no expression what so ever on her face when she heard jm's vm about Jake--as always her lack of acting skills were apparent.
GH did it about the way I expected--half assed. The actors made it worth the watch and Becky so deserved Performer of the Week but it was sad that it was originally her exit s/l.

You know what it is - there was so much hype over the show so I dreaded watching it. Everything annoyed me, even Diane who I love to watch. I just wanted the show over and move on from it. 2 kids on the brink of death in one episode? Yes I watched BJ - Im getting to old for this. And what about the article that jax said he wont be seen much on air anymore? Where would he be going with a sick kid?

I have to say, I was glad that Luke told Tracy. BUT, why wouldn't Tracy tell Monica and Edward? Come on. That's their grandchild....
I know Leslie Charleson and John Ingle would play the HELL out of this. Leslie has such expressive eyes, I could just see her walking in and sharing a look with Jason, and all fences would be mended.
The ONLY redeeming part of this storyline is Becky Herbst. Man can she act. Everyone else is subpar. Steve Burton's "Expressive eyes" are no cover for the fact that he can't act. Jonathon Jackson did what he always does.
This is such a sloppy copy of BJ's Heart. A storyline like this should progress over MONTHS!!! This has all happened in like 2 days!
Here's to hoping Guza shapes up and gives Monica/Edward/Bobbie and Audrey some scenes.

Regan, I agree with everything you said.
I'm looking forward to see what you have to say about the rest of the storyline.

Personally I HATE this story line...but I thought BH was by far the Gold Star performer for Friday. I think they all did a great job...JJ and TG as always...LW and IR delivered on their end, and SB can express so much without uttering a word...I felt all their anquish, and was moved to tears a few times. Liz folding Jake's shirt totally did me in, during the end montage.
I still hate this story line...I pray their is going to be some twist somewhere as we never saw Jake...maybe there was so much damage to the poor little boy, he was not really identifiable....and Liz assumed it was Jake... and their was a switch made...I know I am grasping at straws here, but I would be willing to accept any half a$$ed story line if it meant getting Jake back a few months from now. I say this because no one wanted Liz to see Jake at the hospital...are they forgetting that she saw the damage the accident did to him at her house. I know that Patrick and Robin went into the surgery not feeling too optimistic, but I am still having trouble with why they wouldn't let Liz see Jake...as I presume she did see him at the house...and she did know he wasn't conscious....gives me hope that maybe another little boy was switched out with Jake...and would explain why Franco popped in and out recently.

GHF an - Yea I noticed that no-one would allow Liz to see him. Robin's reaction while she and Patrick were scrubbing was frightening. I thought maybe Jakes face was in pretty bad shape, but now that you say that, maybe it was a switch. Like the Balken switched Sam for Brenda. Maybe the Balken did that to get everyone who is looking for him off his back and he can go look for his grandchild. If everyone is at the hospital cause of these kids, hes free to roam.

Great comments Reagan. I agree with you on almost every point. I wonder if telling Edward at this point would only do more harm than good to the old man's heart.
And does Monica really need to suffer one more loss? I would love to see them on screen because I miss them and I am willing to bet they will find out in time for the funeral.
I do wonder if Bobby is going to make an appearance at Carly's side during this transplant surgery.... It would bad story telling to not have her mother the nurse there with her.

I feel the same as you Regan.
I really HATE the storyline and I hate it even more when I see how they are handling Liason. Lucky was the one who had to call Jason, not Liz - of course. And then not even one little scene between those two at the hospital.
I wonder if we get a scene between them at all or if Guza works it and brings this story on our screen without even giving Liz and Jason one scene.
I liked that Luke told Tracy about Jake's paternity. But it also made me sad and angry, because it hurts to be reminded that they killing off yet another Quartermaine.
I had high hopes for Jake too and it's a shame that they are doing this.
Seeing Edward or Monica on Jason's side would have been amazing! But in the end it's still "GH"...

Ok, What if Franco, wanting to hurt Jason, kidnaps the Balkins grandson, Kidnaps Jake, switches them outside the house, as the Balkin picks up Jake and runs down his own grandson???
Hey It's possible!

Idylkng - I responded before to GHF an who suggested a twist in the Jake hit and run. This is getting crazy cause this is all I could think about. I said in my previous post maybe it was the Balkin - than I started thinking about Franco. That appearance never did make sense (calling Jason) MAYBE Franco did make the switch. He's a gory killer. Maybe he switched kids because he knows Jake is Jason's. Granted, they really could have killed off Jake, but now that we are all brainstorming, dosent it seem like there alot of loose ends with the Franco nonsense?????

Idylkng...that is exactly what I was thinking...but I am even going one more step....Brenda's child is really Jax's child....They hooked up when he was on one of his business trips and she got pregnant and never told him. The Balkan's son was in the picture and he just assumed the kid was his....That would also explain how the kidney was a match for Josslyn, as she would actually be receiving her half brother's organ...You know kidney matches aren't as easy as the show would like you to believe. If you are not a match you cannot receive the organ...seems a stretch that Jake is going to be a match when they aren't even related. After the switch is made the other little boy who doesn't know where he is, wanders out into the road, thus explaining how he got hit...
Anyway in my dream sceanario...Jason who is trying to locate Brenda's son who Franco has kidnapped....finally finds where the child is...walks into the place and there is Jake playing on the floor with a motorcycle toy and he says Hey Hi Jason....thud

giogio...so glad that you too are brainstorming also...like I said I am willing to accept any story line if it means getting Jake back...and we can have all our future Q story lines, and everything else this kid could be involved in.

GHF an - It just dawned on me today after Idylkng mentioned it - we didnt get anything else this week from Franco. And in the spoilers for next week he contacts Carly. So maybe Franco does have something to do with it.We do need our future story lines back.

Can someone remind me when Robin and Michael found out Jake was Jasons??? I don't ever remember seeing that on screen and I have followed very closely. Robin only had suspicitions that Jason and Liz had a romantic thing... I never remember a conversation between Michael and Jason about Jake.

Also, I mean if this was Liz's exit story originally couldn't they just throw the fans a bone and have Jason involved in the scenes with everyone else including Liz. It's so ridiculous. Sadly, I'm just glad that they are at least acknowleging this story line at all. It's been a while. I was also happy to see some of that old chemistry between Liz and Lucky. They really haven't had a chance to have anything loving between them since JJ came back. I hope they try to reunite these characters.

golinogal - Jason just told Michael Jake was his either Tuesday or Wednesday of this week. They were at the penthouse and Jason was trying to explain to Michael why they are protecting him from joining the business, then told him that Jake was his but chose to leave him with Lucky to protect him from the mob. Robin, I dont remember.

Yes, No matter how you get there, it is possible that Jake lives, and Brendas son dies.
TADA!!
We can only hope! Not that I would want any child to die, but the writers went there.

Well I pray there is a twist somewhere...it is hard to believe they would kill off this kid when there is so much potential with him...So when they would not allow Liz to see him again, even though she had to already have seen him at her house...I got hopeful...and started brainstorming how they could make this an exciting story....save Jake... and really shock the audience all at the same time...WHILE rectifying this horrible mistake of killing him off. Good soap in other words.

Regan I agree with your comments.
Elizabeth rode in the ambulance with Jake all the way to the hospital so she certainly saw how serious his injuries were and that it was Jake. She said he never woke up.

I also ff'd the SnB and balkan stuff.
How about that little girl that plays Jocelyn, she's wonderful.
I thought the whole thing felt a little anti-climacticbut I thought Becky was great as was Steve....Jonathan Jackson just bores me.

Yes Sassy I said that...she was with Jake ....she saw him at the house...so why wouldn't they let her see him again at the hospital...It is not like they were protecting her from seeing what happened to him...she already had... and knew he was unconscious....
That is why I am confused...so like I said...probably grasping at straws...and willing to accept any half a$$ story line...maybe this child was really messed up bad...face wise...and Elizabeth just presumed it was Jake because of the open door and Jake being gone. A little boy same age as Jake...as Brenda's little boy is also 4...shirt switched as they grabbed him from the house and the kid wandered into the road not knowing where he was...

GHFan777--
I also hope that there is a twist down the road as well with this storyline and that it REALLY wasn't Jake. Maybe Franco, The Balkan or even Helena orchestrated this to get back at Jason or Elizabeth by making them suffer the greatest loss imaginable???
P.S-- Helena has been a little bit TOO quiet lately and I have had a feeling that she might be plotting something REAL big. And perhaps she felt that ANOTHER kidnapping would be too predictable and cliche?? Maybe she decided to go one step further????
I am grasping at straws as well, but like you said, why would they ruin such a good thing and kill off this baby???

So far I have enjoyed the acting in regards to this storyline. The reason that Liz did not call Jason in my opinion is Lucky is really the father to Jake and all Liz could think about at the moment was reaching out to the parent that Jake has known all his life and who he refers to as "dad."
Eventually there will probably be a scene with Jason and Liz.
I think this is just one episode in, and the comments with regards to Tracey informing Monica are Edward, are still possible. There are still days for the storyline to play out.
One thing that is puzzling, with all the possible suspects included in this storyline, would not the driver know if he/she hit something? In my opinion, I also thought Luke looked a tad bit guilty of something. But we will see....

I suppose every good soap has to have a way to bring people back from the dead, so I am willing to consider a few of the Balkan conspiracy theories.
