Elisabeth Hasselbeck Doesn't Find "Billy" Maher Funny

The View's Elisabeth Hasselbeck is not smiling about Bill Maher's Egypt trade deal joke regarding Hasselbeck and detained, CBS News foreign affairs correspondent Lara Logan. On HBO's Real Time With Bill Maher Friday night, the comedian joked:
New rule: now that Hosni Mubarak has released Lara Logan, he must put her intrepid hotness on a plane immediately. In exchange, we will send Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

Hasselbeck took to the airwaves today to address "Billy" Maher. Watch the mele after the jump!

I got $50 that says Maher goes for another round this Friday...

Ms. Thing is so not ready to take on Bill! He could chew her up and spit her out without breaking a sweat. Elizabeth campaigned for Palin and STILL defends Bush. She talks smack about our president every time his name is brought up. She is also so childish calling him "Billy" and saying he's not a man. Lizzie please! I know alot of people don't like Maher, I love him-perfect man to me- Smart, Sexy, And Hilarious! JMO

Dear billy don't you know by now that some people really really don't have any sense of humour, whatsoever!

Miss thing really take herself seriously.

I love Elisabeth (I really do!), but she needs to lighten up on this one. It's called a joke! It's not personal. He could just have easily inserted the name of Ann Coulter or Sarah Palin into that joke.

Be happy that you're on the national radar, Elisabeth. (If he had put in Patricia Heaton's name, most people would not have gotten that she's a conservative woman.)

At least he didn't have the crassness to put you in crosshairs.

The most shocking thing on today's edition of The View is that Elisabeth Hasselbeck has taught her kids all of the Presidents...and their favorite is Barack Obama!!! Awesome!

I agree, that one was out of line.

I am not a Hasselbeck fan, but I do think that she tries to be fair. She actually has gotten more palatable the older she gets. Still have issue with her politics, but not enough to make a tasteless joke. That being said, Joy (yuck) is right....this is Bill Maher's bread and butter, this isn't over by a long shot!

Elizabeth doesn't bother me,(Joy Behar's the one I can't stomach) but c'mon, talk about much ado about nothing!

I wouldnt have bothered to respond, mostly because I agree with her assessment of maher and his views on women, but I also agree that "you can cloak anything in the guise of a joke" I totally agree with Jamey - whats going on in egypt is so scary and so dangerous, that this shouldnt have been fodder and she was right to ask what happened to the call for civility. maybe if the politicos and the pundants on BOTH sides got called out for their rhetoric in some sort of consisten fashion, we actually would get to a place that had at least a modicum of civility in our political discourse.

Bill Maher never signed on to the call for civility. He'd be out of business. ;-D

I don't find "Billy" Maher very funny either...or very smart. He just comes off as a horny dude who likes to talk about politics now and then.

Newsflash: Elizabeth Hassle(bleep)---

You are the one who is lucky to still be gainfully employed. You are NOT a comedian, not an actress and you really don't even have a personality, unless you count that ANNOYINGLY squeaky voice and your penchant for overtalking and being condescending to everyone a PERSONALITY.

BTW: I don't!!!!

I might not be a huge Bill Maher fan, but he has contributed FAR more to mainstream television over the years than YOU have, so go play in traffic!!!

I love Bill Maher. Was the joke in poor taste? OK, maybe! However, I feel no sympathy for Hasslebeck. She is boring and offensive to me in more ways than Maher will ever be. Send her to Egypt? No way! Send her to the moon!

I don't see that as being hypocritical, appleridge. She dishes it out AND she takes it. Isn't that what we would all do? She doesn't respond to all of her critics (if she did that, there'd be no time on The View for other topics), but every now and then, something rubs her the wrong way and she talks about it. I have no problem with her doing that...I just happen to think that she's being too hypersensitive this time. Next time, I might agree with her, but I don't think the joke was out of line at all. It made me laugh, and I like Elisabeth. It was just a joke!

I think Bill Maher is funny, but his opinions are completely dumb. I don't see how you can really compare Elisabeth to Bill. She attacks on policy and can sometimes attack on a personal level.

Jamey.

It is called a joke. I find this surprising, you and your colleagues on the podcast always poke fun at people

BG, we poke fun of soap stars, actors, reality stars, etc. about getting drunk, having porn stars moving in their homes, making shitty movies. We've never joked that one should be traded to a war-torn country where Anderson Cooper just got punched in the head ten times. I love a good joke, but this one wasn't funny, in my opinion. I can't stand Elisabeth's politics, but joking about sending one hot women home in exchange for another is certainly not a typical  liberal mindset. I doubt Gloria Steinham would be amused, or Julia Sugarbaker for that matter.

Well I watch that show on a regular basis and that is just Bill Maher style of comedy, she actuallly did herself a disservice

He is going to go in hard on her now LOL, never do verbal battle with a comic

Oh god help us if that is true. I am a political science major and his show is just awful from a factual standpoint. I would tune in for the comedy, but I would not form any views from him.

I think "Billy" (that was dumb) did hurt EH's feelings! lol. I don't know how any woman can watch his show. He is the MOST sexist man on TV and I am not just referring to this Hasselbeck controversy. I thought liberals were suppose to be progressive and tolerant, but I think the way he describes and treats women is pretty archaic. I have never heard EH bad mouth anyone like Bill Maher. Not really comparable.

Oh, and did you know the actress who played Julia Sugarbaker was a big time Republican? irony...

I doubt this will even register on Maher's radar. He probably won't refer to it again.

I am surprised at the condemnation here. Kathy Griffin says stuff like this all the time, but somehow, she gets a pass (which she should, in my opinion). The outrage that he might suggest--in jest--that Elisabeth should be sent to Egypt is disingenuous to me. It was an angry mob who allegedly threatened to behead a camera crew. A similar threat could just as easily be made by an angry mob in America or any other country. Egypt is not a country where they chop off people's hands for stealing.

And for the record, Bill Maher is by no means a liberal. He's a libertarian. I am not, but I guess I'm starting to realize they have the best sense of humor (compared to the number of humorless liberals and conservatives who make mountains out of molehills).

Bill Maher is no libertarian. I find that insulting, lol. I don't know any libertarian who supports his economic views. He was one like 15 years ago, but he now calls himself a liberal.

BTW, I think Kathy Griffin should be called out. Didn't she call whats her name the white precious.

I never miss Real Time, and I have never heard him say he was a liberal.

So, you think Kathy Griffin should be called out, too? Are we going to start dissecting every comedians jokes and decide which ones are appropriate? God, the blogosphere is going to be the death of comedy. Thankfully, most of us who sit at our computers are in the vast minority and therefore have the least power and influence.

If we started condemning comedians for jokes we don't like, they'll be closing down comedy clubs everywhere!

This was when his panel was b*tching about that there was no liberal voice except for Alan Colmes and Maher said "hello, I represent liberals". And he later said that he doesn't go by libertarian anymore.

I think it is perfectly acceptable to call out someone if their "joke" is in poor taste. I have every right to do so. No one is calling for Maher to be taken off the air. It is just criticism.

I remember him saying he represents liberals in that instance, but that's not the same as saying he's a liberal. And I've never heard him say he's no longer Libertarian.

He supports racial profiling, the death penalty and is often critical of President Obama. I can't see him ever labeling himself a liberal.

I don't know why you feel the need to say you have every right to call someone out on a bad joke. That pretty much goes without saying, and I never suggested otherwise.

TvGord with all due respect, Maher criticizes Obama for not being progressive enough. Even here he refers to democrats as WE.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/06/15/bill-maher-tells-olberman_n_215...

I also believe he says he supports profiling, but in his mind he differentiates that as not racial - that it basically means not frisking nuns and the elderly - and many liberals believe in the death penalty. Libertarians are largely fiscally free market and socially hands off. Maher is decidedly not an advocate for the free market, as we saw with his stance on health care.

The joke didnt make me going running into the streets demanding accountability, but I can understand why EH felt targeted, esp. in light of what happened in Arizona. There are some real crazy people in this world unfortunately. Remember too that we live in a day and age where people finding your personal info is becoming easier and easier. Someone on daytime dish posted KiMc real estate listing. SJB got calls at her home. KeMos mother got threatened on twitter. We dont know what Mahers comments kicked up for her on that level.
