DC #597: Looking Back at 2010 on The Morning Jolt With Larry Flick
On today’s podcast the Daytime and Pop Confidential gang returns to The Morning Jolt With Larry Flick to help Larry and Keith take a look back at 2010 in soaps and pop culture.
In the first half of the show, find out which soap opera Larry, Keith and the Daytime Confidential gang chose for their best and worst soap of 2010. A lot of great actors and actresses delivered gripping performances in 2010, but who earned the title of soap opera MVP? Larry then asked for the gang’s honorable mentions and Luke snuck in a dishonorable mention.
So many juicy celebrity scandals dominated 2010, but which one was the juiciest? During the second half of the show, Larry asked the Pop Confidential gang to name their favorite juicy story. On Pop Confidential’s Best of 2010 in Pop Culture episode the PC crew revealed their picks for best comedy and drama, but Larry wants them to name just one. Which show will each participant choose as the best scripted TV series? The 2010 movie box office is winding down, but the year gave us a lot of great movies. Find out which movie everyone chose as the best movie of 2010.
All this and much more on today’s Daytime and Pop Confidential podcast.

LAWD HAVE MERCY! Larry and Keith’s infectious co-signing laughter and his “How you Do-ing” never fails to have me laughing on public transportation and I don’t give a damn what people are thinking. Larry’s is a mess. That crack he made about Tony Geary had me clutching my pearls but then again, almost everything he says has me clutching.
Reagan, I have your back on FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS. I’ve loved this show since I saw my first episode from the 2nd season premier and became almost obsessed with it when I went back and watched the first season via Netflix. I’ve always said that Zach Gilroy was my favorite actor after Ms. Connie Britton and my boy Kyle Chandler (been a fan of his since the HOMEFRONT days) and the episode “The Good Son” showed why Zach is the best supporting actor the show has ever had. I’m willing to give Shonda Rhimes’ new series OFF THE MAP a look see just because of him.
I don’t think anyone but her family loves Susan Lucci more than me but I have to co-sign on what Keith said. Yes, even though it’s better than Chucky Doll Pratt’s crap, it pains me to say that ALL MY CHILDREN has been my least favorite soap in 2010 and that it is PAINFUL to watch the great Erica Kane with this significant lack of a storyline worthy of her character. This is the woman who put AMC on the map for God’s sakes. I actually was happy to see her shoot Dr. David in the back because it at least gave her something. They could make something good out of her threats to take Liza down but I won’t hold my breath.
THE SOCIAL NETWORK – absolutely! Clearly my favorite film of the year and Jesse Eisenberg’s performance deserves the Best Actor Oscar. It was a perfectly amazing performance.
Hearing Larry’s comments on some of the “crap” that the gay community supports, I would love to hear his thought on Logo’s THE A-LIST.

Gosh best soap is so hard but I have to agree with Jillian. For the year it goes to General Hospital. I have been consistently more entertained by that soap this year than any other.
Great podcast. I enjoy listening to you all on Larry's show. In the words of Keith "Wooooooorrrrrrrrrrkkkkk!" LOL
Happy New Year to you all!

Oh yeah Jamey I agree with you about Nancy Lee Grahn being underused. I am new to Nancy. This is my first time seeing her on a soap. I enjoyed her the most during Kristina's abuse storyline and I have been scratching my head trying to figure out why they don't use her.

Another great podcast. Keith kills me with his "Worrrk" response peppered throughout the podcast. Loved Jamey and Jillian cutting for Michael Muhney who, IMO, is one of the few reasons I still watch Y&R. And OMG, thank you all for breaking down why I cannot stand Tyler Perry. I'm sending this link to everybody in my family who thinks I'm hating on him for not watching his movies. The Madea character is the only saving grace of his franchise, and I am so over the whole concept that all Black women have been molested and can't possible enjoy sex. I completely agree with Jamey, what happened to the great movies from the 90s like Best Man, Love Jones, Love and Basketball, etc?
Happy New Year, y'all!

The podcast was once again great...but I don't completely agree about Tyler Perry. I am not really a fan, but I understand that he is serving a segment of the black audience that is typically ignored by Hollywood. For all the money that he makes, he still has no real clout and made his own studios just to support his dream. I am all behind the "idea" of Tyler Perry, even if I can't get down with his movies all the time.
Sadly, I have noticed a trend when it comes to black Hollywood, that things are done in waves. For a while, there were only movies like "Boyz in the Hood". Then there was the "Love Jones" wave of movies. Now we are in the Madea era. The only person that has been able to buck the trend is Spike Lee. Personally, I wish that different types of black movies could be on screen at the same time, but I have never known that to happen before, so I am doubtful.
In the end, I would like to see variety in movies too...but I would also like to see more than one director out there too. Maybe someone other than Tyler Perry can step up and create a movie targeting another demographic. We can't really blame Tyler Perry for creating what he knows...when no one else is stepping up.

Larry Flick is vile and disgusting and I don't understand why you guys keep going on his show. I definitely won't listen to any of his podcasts again.
