Aww, Chloe and Kevin...

So... Skye falls down something fiery while Sharon reaches for her. Skye falls down an active volcano. Yeah. Y&R is a wacky sitcom, right?

God, Chloe and Kevin... I can't believe how much I wanted these two together and how much I hate the idea of them in a romantic couple now. They just don't work as lovers, they should just be BFF and be done with it.

People stop hating. Y&R is the # 1 soap and will remain that alstonboy, even if u decide not to watch it.

BG--

Don't tell me how to think/feel/express myself!!! I am not YOUR child, and I certainly don't need you, or anyone else on this website, telling me what to do!!!! We are ALL exercising our CONSTITUTIONAL rights to DISCUSS what we like and DON'T like about Y&R!!! In case you hadn't noticed, the name of this website is DAYTIME CONFIDENTIAL!! That's why it was created.

If you can't handle MATURE debate and discussion, then perhaps you should find another website for which to spread your holiday bossiness/immaturity!!!

On here, we say WHAT WE WANT, WHEN WE WANT, HOW WE WANT!!

Deal with it or get out of the kitchen!!!!!!

Please and thank you. HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!!

Oh and by the way: Just because Y&R is #1 in the ratings, that does NOT mean that the show is PERFECT, or that there isn't room for improvement. I see PLENTY of room for improvement, and I will CONTINUE to point out what I feel needs to be changed until I see this show reach it's full potential!!!

Y&R is a hot mess right now, but I think we're headed for an upswing. Least there ain't no dopplegangers lurking about LOL!!!

Akbad806--

LOL! I wouldn't say it's a hot mess. I'd give it a C. But there is still MUCH that needs to be changed, and a lot of character assassination to HOPEFULLY be undone in 2011 (yes, I'm talking about you, Sharon!). People are hopping in bed faster than a Vegas prostitute and having all of this "free-loving," but it seems to be nothing more than shock value. And ditto for all these OVERNIGHT "supercouples" emerging that are more gag-worthy than anything else.

Maria needs to stop believing her own hype and let things develop slower and more naturally!! She has a bad habit of convincing herself that certain things work and then trying to FORCE them down the throats of viewers. Not all viewers have as strong of a GAG REFLEX as I do.

I agree Akbad806, Y&R is a hot mess only 3 couple working;

Villy - more or less, except this obsession to have a child only after 4 months of marriage;
Lauren/Michael - at least now Lauren is back on being coherent about Daisy;
Phyllis/Jack - they always were very supporting of one another and really get one another!

The rest is a mess and frankly quite depressing. Teh grinch stole Christmas on Y&R.

AlstonBoy- I see a need for improvement as well, but if you not like what you see STOP WATCHING!

In reality if a brand is #1, they do not need to anything, but what are already doing.

Um it's easier said than done, BG. Soaps are addictive and it's hard to stop watching even when they get bad because there's usually at least something worth watching (in my case, it's Nina).

Y&R is STILL moderately enjoyable, but Maria Bell is so up and down in terms of her storytelling that it's difficult to take what she says at face value.

And NO I am NOT going to stop watching. Y&R was the first show I ever fell in love with back in 1993, and I have watched it for most of my adult life. I have not reached the level of frustration that would lead me to GIVE UP on this show yet.

Hopefully, the show will get better in 2011 and I will never get there!!

Hopefully!!!

Timepass-

WHERE did I tell ANYONE that their opinion is not quite right?? Akbad806 POLITELY STATED HIS OPINION that "Y&R is a hot mess right now." I then expressed MY opinion that Y&R is NOT a hot mess right now. I did so RESPECTFULLY and without belittling or being bossy or judgmental.

The only person who I disrespected in POST #8 was MARIA BELL. And she needs to be disrespected because a large portion of her work over the past year has been PISS-POOR. And obviously you agree with me!!!

I am not sure what point you are trying to make, but I ALWAYS address other posters with respect, UNLESS THEY DISRESPECT ME FIRST!! Then the gloves come off!!

And YES--- that is my HUMBLE OPINION!! And I ain't apologizing for it!!! Smile Smile

Nonetheless-- I have NEVER come onto this website to argue with anyone or engage in petty bickering, and I am not going to start now.

Merry Christmas to everyone!!! And let's remember that it's okay to DISAGREE, as long as we treat each other with respect and dignity.

BG and Alstonboy, Days of Our Lives is an example of a show that I absolutely loved in the past (93-97 are glory years, but the show was also good from 1998-01, and I really loved August 03-August 04), but poor writing and casting decisions have driven me away from the show for good. It's hard to quit a soap opera but it can be done. Days left me with no reason to keep watching so I stopped.

Y&R is nowhere near as good as it was prior to 1998, but it's still not as bad as Dena Higley's Days of Our Lives.

2011 looks like a slow year for Y&R. I agree with alstonboy4315 that Y&R is in the crapper, but it has been like that for years! All of the storylines and couples are stale. There is nothing really to look forward to and I don't think Y&R is the number one soap anymore with regards to quality. I think half of those scenes in the promo are old and already been shown.

I think Sharon Case is an overrated actress when you compare her to how much screen time she gets. She is on so much that you would think she has the talents of Katherine Hepburn or someone of that quality. I have noticed she gives the most stupid and random ass facial expressions and she always is giving this "deer caught in headlights" look. I think Adam and his bimbo sidekick are on too much and I just don't care to watch them anymore. The upcoming volcano storyline is just way stupid for words and I wish the character, Sharon, would fall into the crater.

I think Villy is starting to get rather boring. All they do is whine over some dumb baby (and they are mad they are not pregnant after having sex five hours ago). As for Chloe/Kevin, wake me when it is over. Not really feeling the chemistry with that couple which is a shame because I think EH is one of the better actress on that show in her age bracket.

Happy holidays to you as well, Alstonboy!

For the New Year, I am excited for the return of Cricket and Phillip. Hopefully this means good things for Nina, who's basically the only reason I bother to watch Y&R anymore.

Ronan/Heather: Less Heather and Ronan, more Nina and Ronan! Nina just found her long-lost son but we never see them talking very often or trying to forge a relationship. This is the problem I had last year when Phillip returned from the dead and we never got to see him interacting with Jill, Nina, and Kay about his return. I'm hoping Ronan's liver transplant story brings him and Nina closer and perhaps brings his biological father into the fold. Also, wouldn't it be great if Grandma Flo came back?

I like Kevin and Chloe's friendship but the more I think about it, the more I think putting them together as a couple will ruin them for me. That being said, I do like Bad Jana's involvement. And if it keeps Chloe out of Billy's orbit, I'm all for it! Also, end the Hogan storyline. I like Gloria and Jeffrey but Michael Baddalucco is just too much.

Jill/Colin/Katherine: I love it when Jill finds romance but it never lasts. She always gets burned (like with Tucker), and it'll happen again here. It's going to be annoying to watch Kay butt in where she doesn't belong with regard to Jill's love life. I have found the Kay/Jill rivalry really contrived after it turned out they weren't daughters, and I hate that we'll have to suffer through more of this. Maybe at least we'll see Jill and Lauren working like real sisters.

Victor/Nikki/Deacon: This triangle has a lot of potential especially if it leads to Victor and Nikki falling in love all over again. I'm cautiously optimistic because this show is a total failure when it comes to romance.

Nick/Diane/Jack/Phyllis/Sharon/Adam: I can't stand any of these characters except for Jack. Sharon has been ruined beyond belief. While I don't like Adam, I don't want him to go to jail for Skye's death---that's not justice.

Daniel/Abby/Daisy: I can't stand Daisy. I hate this story. I don't like Abby either. She's annoying as hell. Way too perky and annoying. Poor Daniel! He is the true victim here. I have a feeling Billy and Victoria will end up with Daisy's child which could be interesting. The only thing I want out of this story is a resolution to the missing little boy Max, the child who disappeared at summer camp and is connected to Ryder, Daisy, and Sarah. I would also like Ryder to return and for him and Daisy to turn out NOT to be Sheila's children, and for Kimberlin Brown to return, but I think I'm asking for too much.

Neil/Sofia/Malcolm: Absolutely zero interest. Sofia and Malcolm are played by such horrid actors. If you're not going to bring back Drucilla, Y&R, pair Neil with Leslie or Olivia. Maybe then I'd care about this story.

Tucker, Ashley, Billy, Victoria, Cane, Lily: Can't stand these characters. Go away, all of you!

alstonboy4315 ... your comments on Y&R and the posters here are right on target.

AlistairCrane ... your comments are also right on target as far as I'm concerned. The only exception is that I still think Sharon can be restored and bettered; even if it is with Adam by her side.

I'm not sure what 2011 will bring on but I do know that Victor will probably be even worse than ever before. The Dickens fable (although somewhat entertaining) was still pointless and I still can't be quite sure that Victor actually did do the things in the aftermath to all that.

I can see Nick becoming more annoying than ever; he really is rapidly becoming his Father. I find myself becoming increasingly perturbed by his treatment of Sharon (and actually all the women in his "love" lives) and by his opinion of Billy. Billy still has done nothing wrong and has printed only the obviously painful truth on all matters. It was that dog with a bone, Phyllis, who brewed up that article in the latest issue of that magically produced magazine that so tore all those poor souls apart.

Most of all I hope it is Phyllis's year to self destruct and that she takes Victor along for the ride. Yikes ... didn't Jillian say that someone will marry the Devil and that the bride will not be blonde?

Most of us really do enjoy our daily dose of Y&R but just wish it could be better. It could be just that if some of the plots that annoy us so are dispensed with and replaced with some better intrigue and excitement.

I will continue to see if it happens.

Lively dialog for the season! I had mixed feelings about the Scrooge episode. If it made for a better Victor, I would be for it but I doubt he is one lick nicer on Monday. I think they could have made his ghost friend the Colonel instead of his father. They could have had Colonel Austin cobble together a nice dialog with all the years of conversations they had. I liked the mother flash back and early Victor and Nikki. Having his dead wives come back seemed appropriate but maybe not quite as fullfilling as it could have been. Maybe switching them around and letting Hope be the ghost that lets him have it? She might not have been as nice about it. What I did not like was the grim reaper. Yes of course it was Colleen. But if Colleen was not available to do a drive by, they should have replaced her with Cassie. Cassie being under the black robe would have been just as cathartic for Victor and we could have seen our beloved Cassie again.
As for Y&R the christmas episode was endemic of what is right and wrong with the show. They have some good ideas but don't always execute them very well. They get tunnel vision and don't see beyond the moment. It is mostly entertaining but could have deeper layers to them. And EVERYTHING is all about the big reveal. Maybe its should be about the journey to the big reveal?

i AGREE WITH THE ABOVE POST!!

Y&R is not as bad as most people make it seem. But it could DEFINITELY be better. I'm not as hard on MAB as some people, because I know once she's gone...what we are stuck with will most likely be worse. In all actuality, I like Auntie Bell's writing...I just don't care for execution sometimes. I love the storyline ideas, but sometimes they are so rushed into that they become plot-driven crap that ends up destroying characters and legacies. Then there are some storylines that I absolutely LOVE that end WAAAY too soon and never go as deep as they should or could.

I honestly think if we had a viable Executive Producer (NOT Paul Rauch), and some co-writers along with Auntie Bell, this show would be great. I think this is an example (along with LML) of one woman have TOO much power, or claiming to have all the power. I just don't see anything but the writing of Sheffer and Hamner when I watch Y&R. There are a few glimpses of good soap, and I sleep better at night attributing them to Antie M.

So yeah, I'm looking forward to 2011 with Y&R, and if it keeps improving like it seems to be doing, we'll be in for a pretty decent year. Just give those Newmans a rest. Focus on the other characters that we hardly see. The Winters family, develop Ronan a little more, Nina/Paul, Jill and Colin, develop Leslie as a character....give Adam, Sharon, Nick, and Phyllis a little break. Geessh...

Then I'd be totally in love with this show. Right now it's more like lust and a hint of infatuation which is never good long-term.

I'm enjoying Y/R right now tremendously the addition of Tristan Rogers just sealed the deal for me. I like their story telling and how their stories are told...I'm not into any couple but let the drama just lead the way although I like Billy/Victoria's storyline

...(Bold and Beautiful) and their Scrooge eppy with Victor is phenomenal excellent acting and was a fun reprieve from murder and mayhem shooting and the depressing Xmas eppy of GH.

I'm interested in mostly every storyline especially Victor being found/out...their show is "romantic w/awesome romantic script writing, pretty to look and stories well told"

Ronan's illness will get me more Nina on my screen so that's a good thing.

I'm liking Jill/Lauren's relationship storyline. And even though the actress can't act her way out of a paper bag...Daniel/Daisy storyline w/Abby and now Janna.

I'm liking the the Nik/Diane angle and want to see how this plays out..

My pet peeve is the segregation of the Winters family from the rest of cast I'd like more integration...but at least they have more than one or two black people on the screen.

I'm looking forward to Cricket/Phillip returning two of my favorite characters. I know Tom isn't the greatest actor but frankly I don't give a damn if I have to put up with Daisy and all the rest I've had to endure Phillip at least has a powerful history with the show...and I like Tom. J. Morrow was a horrible actor for years and just now coming into his own. I'm vested in this show and looking to what is next.

No show is 100% but at least with this one they "complete" stories and 98% of the time if I follow a story I get a payoff.

My grade for Y/R is a strong B

marknsprmo ...I also like your thoughts on the Scrooge fable.

The Colonel would have been a good choice for Jacob Marley but not sure how they'd be able to do it. I was also thinking that Hope should have been the Ghost of Christmas Present. It would have been bittersweet and I was actually thinking beforehand that that would be the case so was surprised at who got to do what. It would have been interesting to see Victor being belligerent to the Ghost of his dearly departed most saintly wife.

And ... like you said, Victor will be the same old Victor come Boxing Day.

Marknsprmo - I completely agree with your last paragraph WRT to Scroogeathon and the state of Y&R. The ideas are good, but the execution is mediocre to downright poor in some instances. Victor's Very Special Christmas episode was, on the surface, very entertaining. But, like too many story ideas, exists in a bubble and probably won't have much impact long term. But I enjoyed it on its merits - it had the right mix of sappy pathos, levity, and drama.

Quote:
In reality if a brand is #1, they do not need to anything, but what are already doing.

There are too many examples to count where this is just not true. Just ask Kodak, Barnes and Noble, or good TV shows that got cancelled too soon. Resting on one's laurels is never a good idea, especially when what they are already doing is not bringing in the level of viewership it once did. While I'm glad Y&R isn't trying to completely reinvent itself, it would be nice if they took viewer constructive criticism to heart. Not random focus groups, but viewers who are "brand loyal" to soaps, and specifically to Y&R. Most of us who post on these Y&R threads on DC have invested years, or in my case, decades to Y&R. We love our "story" and want and expect the best from it. I just wish Auntie Maria didn't dismiss our reactions to plots and storylines that fall flat as not "getting it". It's disrespectful, in my opinion, to our continued loyalty to the show. And I really wish she'd stop borrowing from other genres. I don't want to see Pretty In Pink/When Harry Met Sally redux in Kevin and Chloe. Or some nod to Breakfast at Tiffany's or Some Like it Hot or whatever TMC was airing while she was at her laptop brainstorming show ideas. One thing Y&R has done better than other soaps is not following trends and blazing its own trail. I just wish she'd build on that tradition and focus a little less on splashy reveals, and more on what leads to and follows them. I'll admit I'm tough on MAB&Co, but a lot of that is because they set the bar high when they claimed they'd return the show to it's former glory. I have yet to see that being done. It's improved, but not close to grade A in my opinion.

^^ Agreed. For me, I can pinpoint it to Billy and Chloe's wedding/Mac's return/Katherine proves she's neither Marge Cotrooke nor Jill's mother. Since then, it's all been downhill.

I think the sneak peek looks pretty good but that doesn't mean much since alot of these soaps are great at giving good sneak peeks then dropping the ball with the actual storylines.

I think all of the soaps have their ups and downs and periods where they are great, as well as times where they stink. I agree with AlistairCrane about it being hard to give them up because they ARE addictive. We watch and fall in love with the characters and actors and the shows and characters histories so we may get frustrated and give up on a show for a while but sooner or later we are drawn back. I for one go in spurts as to which shows I watch. I have always loved the ABC shows and watched them most regularly but over the years I have kept up with reading about the CBS shows as well so I was familiar with those characters. Then I began watching the CBS shows in spurts, like watch for a year, stop for a few, etc. The past 2 years I have watched regularly Y&R, B&B, AMC, GH, ATWT (last year or so before it ended). But there are times I get fed up with one or the other of them and stop for a while. A good indicator for me as to when I'm not digging a show at that time is when I have a week or more waiting on my TIVO and can't stand the thought of trying to get through an eppy! If I can zoom through one and it seems like I just started it, then I know I'm enjoying it. Right now I'm really enjoying all of them. I WISH that I had time to watch OLTL b/c it is smoking but I just don't have time to add another show so I'm keeping up via the recaps. Basically I think they all have their ups and downs and at any given time each will have some stories we love and some we hate. I completely agree with Stoney07 that most of the stories I LOVE are the ones that never get explored, are dropped with no explanation or are barely shown at ALL. Examples of this are Mac and Alexis on GH and the Sofia/Neil/Malcolm triangle on Y&R.

Regarding the other comments, here's my two cents:

Dyllan-I TOTALLY agree that Sharon Case is WAY overrated. I too see that "deer in headlights"/"DUH" look on her face in every scene she is in. Michelle Stafford TOTALLY EATS HER UP in every scene and SC is left looking like she forgot her line. As Jamey would say "that baby don't know where she's at". I don't understand WHY Sharon is constantly front burner and for love of all soaps please CUT HER HAIR! They TOTALLY need to get a new hairstylist on Y&R because Sharon Case and Amelia Heine are reason enough to fire the current one. I also agree with Dyllan about Chloe and Kevin's totally lack of chemistry. I saw this pairing coming a MILE AWAY and was excited for it. Now that its here, I'm like EH..not much chemistry. I always liked her with Billy but I LOVE ME SOME VILLY!

Tedew- I agree with you as in I don't understand why everyone hates Billy so much and blames EVERYTHING on him. Victor hates him as an extension of Jack I'm sure. But Nick needs to get a grip. Phyllis IS the one who completely initiated, researched and wrote that article that last printed in RS, and Nick is going off on Billy about it because Phyllis would EAT HIM UP!

AlistairCrane- About the missing little boy Max. I might be wrong but I thought that they revealed that Daisy had killed that little boy? About Sofia, I disagree about her acting. I think she is a really good actress and I love the character but they need to do SOMETHING with her! I vote for Neil and Sofia. I like that she is spunky and doesn't take any crap and I LOVE that they didn't cast a light skin, model type who CAN'T act, just to look pretty!
