Terri Conn on New Soap Home, One Life to Live: "It Looks Like a Movie!"

Terri Conn (formerly Colombino) is loving her new life to live. The former As The World Turns star released the following statement about the fictional burb of Llanview, PA:

“I was watching the show on November 15 and it really hit me how fortunate I am to be on this amazing show! It is classic soap...secrets revealed, Rex's parents, romance James and Starr on Starr Beach, comedy, Kelly's drunk dialing, and family , the fabulous Cramer girls, the Buchanans, and it looks like a movie! Everyone is so sweet and they are total pros. I'm having so much fun with my character. I just keep getting more and more excited every day! Thank you Frank Valentini and ABC for giving me a shot!”

Conn premieres as One Life to Live's Aubrey Wentworth on Monday, Nov. 29.

I started watching OLTL when I found out Terri was joining, and now I have to agree with her that it's a classic soap! I'm loving it.

Glad to see Terri land on OLTL; she's awesome. Guess the divorce is final and it's back to the maiden name of "Conn." I'm surprised she switched names professionally after all these years.

Oh NO!!!!!! I thought we were RID of Terri Conn or whatever her name is. Katie was THE most ANNOYING character on As The World Turns. I couldn't BELIEVE that the episode of Nancy's death had Katie on 90% of the time!!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!! But she was the favorite of THE WORST producer EVER in Daytime, Christopher Goutman. (See the slow death of Another World and the slow death of ATWT). Unfortunately, Jean Passanante is now on the writing team of OLTL, but THANK GOD it's headed up by the BRILLIANT Ron Carlivati. Hopefully, Jean won't convince Ron to have Terri on the air too much. She simply sucks the life out of her screen time. URRRGGGGHHH!!!! But I LOVE OLTL, so I will endure it.

I think she was a good actress even though Katie was totally annoying to me if that makes sense. Hopefully she will shine with different character. I think TPTB have realized by showcasing everyone they are gaining viewers. I am watching for over two years now and I think the stories have been crisp, entertaining and move along and then move on to different characters. Lots of mixing it up and lots of classic drama. As soon as GL was cancelled, I moved to OLTL. I knew ATWTs was going at that point. P&G/CBS wanted to part ways with each other and nothing was going to change that no matter what, those shows were doomed. ..So OLTL really filled the gap. Love the show. TC will entertain us, but OLTL has many riches which she is right about.

Well put, Pumpkin! Although I thought the character of Katie was at times downright exhausting to watch and poorly written in ATWT’s final days, she was always believable and extremely well acted. Terri was exceptional when portraying Katie and if given a worthwhile character to play on OL, she will not disappoint. Stay tuned and see.........

Let me sum up what she meant to say:

"This show is rocking right now, so proud to be a part of it, they KNOW how to write and do a Friday cliffhanger the right way. I just wish General Hospital would take major notes from OLTL and learn what a soap should look like. I look forward to many years on OLTL cause again....THEY ARE AWESOME."

I could care less, she was the most annoying little trite on ATWT for the most part... loved her loosing Brad and the Brad Ghost thing. I hated that in order to see Henry, we had Katie lingering in the woodwork, ugh! Please, OLTL... DON'T GO THERE! She is a very convincing actress, but we don't need another freaking GIGI!!!! Put her on, show her off and then put her back into the woodwork, we have enough going on right now to keep the fire hot on OLTL, please don't dampen it with that woman on screen every single episode or every week for that matter.... Don't do it!!!

The only thing I wonder is - given that there are no random single guys right now and they are chosing to recast Joey rather than bringing back Dan G (BIG mistake DG needs to be on the canvas) are they going to put her in a ton of scenes with Joey or the other new guy the hired that tried out for Joey and instead got this other role?? I cant remember the last time that a brand new character came on and interacted with other newbies and it worked. New characters IMHO only work when they are loved and cared about by at least one other character on the canvas. Look at Stacy and Kim. They brought stacy on as part of the rex/gigi story. Gigi hated her, rex was indifferent and she had no connection to anyone else on the canvas. THAT was an epic FAIL. Then the brought Kim on and the reaction wasnt good UNTIL they started putting her in scenes with Clint. Viewers love Clint and thus now cared what was happening with Kim.

Thank God there are others who have similar concerns as I do about Terri Conn coming to OLTL. I do agree that with better writing, she could possibly do well. However, remember Jean Passanante is now on the writing team for OLTL . I haven’t any idea why Frank Valentini hired this woman since he already has the BEST writing team, headed up by Ron Carlivati, in Daytime!!! Remember folks, she was the Head Writer of ATWT—also remember the FIASCO that was Zoe and Zac????? Not to even mention Ameera!!!! And killing Reid???? WTF????? She hadn’t a CLUE as to how to write for NUKE, but I digress. She and Killer Kreizman (who is now at the snore that is AMC) did a TERRIBLE job with the aforementioned Nancy’s death episode. This is a person that doesn’t understand the CONCEPT of story arcs and character driven storyline. Her conceptual frame goes something like this: let’s just think of something and throw it against the wall like spaghetti and hope to God it sticks. If we are all relying on Terri Conn to shine as a new character based on good writing, then for godsakes let’s hope that Ron and the other OLTL scribes pen every line that comes out of her mouth, because if Jean has anything to do with, we’re all DOOMED and so is Terri.

I'm 50/50 about Terri. There were times she was fantastic in her scenes on ATWT & she was so heartbreaking especially after Brad's death, but then there were crying scenes she did that i started laughing because she couldn't do them, you could tell the wail was fake & she couldn't produce tears so she'd cover her face to hide the fact.
I'll check her out when she starts OLTL with Tom Degnan, mainly because i liked him as Adam her nephew on ATWT & wait & see if i want to keep watching that show. Right now i haven't started another one after ATWT went off the air.
I watched Maura on Y&R a few times but the show's too annoying to keep watching it, so sorry Maura.

Jean Passante Is a Breakdown Writer

According To soap Scribe Tom Casiello Who Spenty Time On OLTL. He Is At Y& R now as a Breakdown Writer. A Breakdown Writer Duties Are:

TC: ‘The breakdown team and the head writers sit down at the beginning of every week and figure out what will happen in the next five episodes…. As a team, we sit … on a conference call and we figure out where everyone’s episodes begin and end – what’s gonna happen storyline wise, which characters we’re using, which sets we’re using in each show. Once we figure out the week … we each take one day of the week and we write a breakdown …, which is kind of a narrative of the episode…. It’s kind of like reading an outline of the show…. Once that’s written, it gets sent to the network executives and producers and they give us notes. We incorporate the notes and then that goes to a scriptwriter and they then turn it into a script.’

TC: ‘As a breakdown writer, you’re not as isolated. The scriptwriters are always more isolated…. They’re pretty much left on their own for the week…. As a scriptwriter, it’s definitely much more solitary… However, If you’re at a show you love, writing characters you love, it can be so much fun to disappear … and throw yourself into the episode.’ Also, as a breakdown writer, you have more ‘say’ in the story and you’re more involved with the long story.’

Appleridge, you quote Tom Casiello as stating: "Also, as a breakdown writer, you have more ‘say’ in the story and you’re more involved with the long story." And Jean Passanante is a breakdown writer for OLTL? LIke I said before, if that's the definition of the roles an responsibilities of a breakdown writer on a writing team and Jean is one of them--we still may be DOOMED!!! Let's hope she doesn't have much input. But thank God at least she's NOT writing the scripts!!!! Thanks for the post!!!

Terri was brilliant in portraying the character of Katie, but Katie was neither likeable enough nor veteran enough to soak up the airtime she did, especially in ATWT’s final days. I don’t know what JP’s or Goutman’s intentions were for creating a one-woman show, but I’m hopeful their wayward vision of intertwining Terri in virtually every storyline won’t resonate with Ron, especially since he and his team appear better at balancing storylines and characters. Hopefully, Ron will check JP if her writing digresses into Terri madness.

Re Terri, I think she is a very talented actress and I’m excited to see, in normal doses, what she can bring to OLTL....

Whitney, TC was good in her role when Brad died, before and after was just overkill. I agree with you, OLTL has a better overview of their characters and their storylines, sometimes they do tend to drag a story to the point that I don't care, but that happens rarely. I hated that they made ATWT about Chris and Katie, killing Ried for their benefit when they could have sacrificed Noah who hadn't been on for months. They just tore that show apart. The only part of the show that made me happy was when Henry and Barbara FINally got married. Even Jack and Carly got squashed into a half an episode and the Janet fiasko made me sick, even though I was happy for Dusty. The Nancy tribute was all about Katie and Chris, not even the Hughes got a really good stand in that, that writing team was atrocious.

Like you say, if they use this actress in teaspoon measures and don't make the show about her, I would be okay with it, especially if she will be the one to Kill the G-Rex horror and cut Rex a break. I don't care for Shane either, so if they could just leave town, I would be fine with that. Other than to break G-Rex up, I really don't see any use in bringing TC on, but that is just my opinion. Guess we will have to wait and see what happens.

Outspoken, I hear you....Re ATWT, I gushed like a sappy fool over the Barbara/Henry love story. Their story alone would’ve renewed my love for ATWT if every other s/l hadn’t been so detestable. Most folks' interest in Katie, at that point, had probably plunged to ZERO, yet she and her quest for happiness remained core to the show, no matter what sacrifices were required (airtime, a beloved character, a popular couple, etc). That bugged me to no end...

Re Terri, I wasn’t surprised by the news that she was infiltrating OL. She’s favored by a high-status writer @ OL, she’s a dynamite actress (IMHO) who would stun at a soap audition, and lastly, she’s a serious hustler when it comes to pursuing her goals (so I've heard). For these reasons, I knew she’d inevitably return to our screens. All we can do now is hope OL doesn’t create the level of omnipresence with her character that ATWT did.....

With all the exceptional characters and storylines currently on OLTL, I'm still at a loss about the value-added that Terri can bring to the canvass. Unfortunately, just seeing her on my screen is going to annoy me. It always takes a while for an actor--no matter how talented--who has been so strongly identified with another character to make the new one believable. Sorry folks. All we are going to see those first few months is Katie and that alone will make me fast forward through all her scenes.
