I suppose directing is not as harmful as writing and producing crap. That's as positive as I can be about this rumor.

I guess he is going 3 for 3 with me. First he had his doings in Another World, which I loved, then As the World Turns, which I loved, and now Y&R. Even though I don't care for Paul Rauch, I'd DO NOT want Chris Goutman to come up and be announced as the EP one day. Him as a director is fine as he has NO say in story.

I hate seeing two of my favorite soaps of all times with big red X's...but it does get your point across. I am sure Goutman would be a decent director. However, I am not sure why the folks at Y&R would want him any where near them. Goutman has made some really poor comments about daytime over the years. I'd stay the h*** away from him, if I were Y&R!

this is the sickest joke i've heard in a long time. i thought they laughed him out of there, or was that the EP job that they did that. why any soap would hire him with the flac he caused at ATWT is beyond me.

Y&R already bad, how can he make it any worse. If this is true then RIP Y&R.

Lord, please take the wheel!!!! This man doesn't DESERVE to work in daytime television ever again. Why does the entertainment industry CONSTANTLY reward and PROMOTE incompetent people, even when their track records are deplorable?? I am clearly in the wrong business..............

He directed some Edge of Night episodes around 1981 and they were pretty good. Love him or hate him (and I was a huge ATWT fan), he does have soap cred from acting, directing and writing. The choices he may have made for ATWT weren't always the best, but, after Hogan's first two years and GL's slide, ATWT's fate was sealed.

INSANITY- DOING THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AND EXPECTING A DIFFERENT RESULT.... THESE PEOPLE WILL NOT BE IN BUSINESS MUCH LONGER.
IF YOU KEEP SENDING PEOPLE WHO HAVE DRIVEN SHOWS INTO THE GROUND TO SHOWS THAT ARE STILL ON THE AIR?..... WTF?

Yeah but also people I see this as a ploy, a start before he takes over. Look at his history on Another World and As the World Turns. Before he was Executive Producer on both shows, what was his role? Take a guess... director. And doesn't he have it in good with Barbara Bloom? Writing is on the wall. She'll have him "play" the role of director before she bumps him up to production (worse would be Co-EP or full blown EP) where he will have story say. Ugh...

I doubt he can be any worse than Rauch, who not only killed Santa Barbara, but created two huge flops (Lovers and Friends/For Richer or Poorer).
If you're going to have a hack like Sheffer ruin one of your soaps, at least hire someone who knew how to work with him. Rauch and MAB clearly don't.

Jillian or anyone at DC,
Could you all get a nice sized picture of Chris Goutman with a big X through his face so that fans can print it up and send it to Y&R to let them know that we as fans of Y&R do not, I repeat DO NOT want Goutman anywhere near our show?!

OMFG. We already have to endure Paul Rauch and Hogan Sheffer and now they want to add Goutman? Y&R is so getting cancelled in 2012 or even sooner!!

There must be something to the rumor that CBS no longer wants to run soap operas. I guess Chenbot wants to be on TV all day long, and puppet Les Moonbeam will grant her wish. YIKES.

You can't blame CG for AW's cancellation---NBC was going to cut it no matter what (the cancellation of Sunset Beach six months later speaks to that).
Also, CG ran ATWT for 10 years before it was cancelled---it's not like the show died within 2 or 3 years of his arrival.
Personally, CG is a step up from Paul Rauch if CG is eventually going to replace him as co-EP.

If the writing doesn't improve on Y&R it really doesn't matter who they hire.

First of all, 2 snaps up for whoever thought of the "X" images.
Second, I remember Goutman was a director on AMC back in the 90s. He did that before he was executive producing shows. I think if they keep him (if they have to take him at all that is) as a director that's ok.
If they put him in any position where he influences story and the path the show takes....well...then time to get my black dress out of the cleaners for another soap death.
Maybe he should just stay out altogether.
