I loved him as Doug on ATWT. I know he ended crazy but he was a nice guy at first. Maybe OLTL can do the opposite with the Ford Daddy. Oh and when I was a lot younger he played Kelly on GL. He was the first soap hunk I remember.

I'm thinking Drake would have also wanted more money and may not have been willing to go to NYC.

Why the resistance to actors who worked in primetime working in Daytime? Interesting reversal of the old prejudice against Daytimers working in Primetime.
In this case...Shipp worked on ATWT, GL, AMC, and even OLTL before. The fact that he went on to moderate success as a working actor outside of Soaps shouldn't engender such disdain. This is hardly "stunt" casting. I don't think tptb are banking on viewers tuning in to see Dawson's Dad or the Flash.

Stacey Haiduk was exclusively a primetimer before working on AMC and then wining RAVES on Y&R. Let us judge the actors by their work not where they have worked.

Drake Hogestyn? Hell no. That dude can't act to save his life. He was so 1 note on Days with his facial reactions and saying Doc. I don't watch Days no more. IT went forever into past viewed shows when it was ruined with Marlena possessed by the Devil and Carly buried alive and all those silly nonsense stories. It was so great in the 80s with the Pawn storyline The Dragon The Prism Miami etc etc.

Drake is awesome! I want him on Y&R as a recast of Victor's brother Matt Miller. But Drake is so iconic as John Black that his popularity would hurt him and no one would buy him in another role. You can insult Drake as an actor if you want, but there's no denying that Drake has a huge, loyal following and is one of soaps' most famous leading men. Everyone's heard of John Black, and that's a fact!

No he played Kelly on GL. His girlfriend(best played by Kristen Vigard, IMO) was Morgan.

RockNRoll , you forgot her other soap "The Doctors". she was on that soap as it ended too. Although I don't consider KZ the kiss of death, she has appeared in the final credits of all of her soaps (except OLTL).

As for JWS, I always remember him as 1/2 of Kelly and Morgan on GL.

I tried to convince my grandma to watch Days, a die hard CBS'er and he was in the first scene of an episode trying to act like a tormented solider and she told me "Baby, don't ever turn that mess on again."

Kelly Nelson from Guiding Light!!! (John Wesley Shipp as Kelly Nelson was my VERY first soap opera crush.) I still very vividly remember his love story with Morgan on GL. John and Lisa Brown were GREAT in their roles as Kelly and Nola. Those were truly golden days for Guiding Light.

I literally removed OLTL from my DVR yesterday because I have been disappointed with it for several months. However, with this casting news, I will be adding it back to my DVR.

I like John, but why not a legacy character instead of a character that again no one cares about? Just my opinion.
