DAYS Goes HD November 8!
By Luke Kerr on September 08, 2010

Get ready to watch Days of our Lives in wondrous HD! That’s right, according to Broadcasting & Cable, DAYS is marking its 45th anniversary by going HD. This means you’ll get to see all of DAYS’ purple sets in their lush lavender glory (Editor's Note: ROTFLMAO), the lines of your favorite hunk’s chiseled abs, crisp with clarity and imagine what HD is going to do to Kate’s (Lauren Koslow) My Little Pony streak of hair? It’s going to POP!
There have been some standard-def holdouts, however, and the news is that this number will soon diminish, as some shows make the transition in the 2010-2011 season. On Nov. 8, NBC's Days of Our Lives will celebrate its 45th anniversary by moving to HD. Despite the fact that it will be "an expensive transition in the seven figures," series execs felt it was important to continue "to produce and deliver a contemporary show with the most up-todate look," Greg Meng, executive in charge of production at the soap and senior VP of Corday Productions, wrote in an email.
Now all we need is for One Life to Live and The Bold and the Beautiful to go HD.

B&B is already a cartoon; in HD it will be out of hand. Can't wait!
And no one hate on my bbgurl Kate OR her hair! When she told Stefano she would bring down the mansion if he and his spawn got between her and Wil I was clapping and cheering!

They better fix their some of their sets and lightning before it's shot in HD because whenever I see a cap from Days, my eyes bleed.
Days truly has the most awful lightning and sets on daytime and if that is shown in HD??? sayonara, not worth it.
good for NBC and DOOL for going there though gives hope for the genre...but fix the lightning and sets and makeup before.

This is good news! In a way it ups the guarantee NBC has on holding onto Days. But Luke you made me laugh about Koslow and those purple sets. I truly do hope they do something with the art direction on this show! They DESPERATELY need to give some of those "mansions" facelifts and get a new wardrobe department STAT!

This is YAY! and yay? for me. It's nice birthday gift to the show, but they do need to update their sets. Barney nutting on the sets is not going to cut it anymore.

i agree tyler, they need to darken up some of those sets. Truthfully, I think the older dark look turns off younger viewers but I really think it's too much right now. And THANK YOU for noticing that awful awful lighting! That show is a close second next to GL'S lighting for th worst lighting on television.

I gave up on production values for soaps. I just want to see good story telling. Save your HD money and tell a good story with good acting. I don't care if you have a black curtain and a couple of chairs at this point as a set. If the acting is good and I care about what is happening, I will be too busy crying a bucket of tears or laughing out loud to care if the lighting is good. a nice bouquet of flours on a table go a long way to dress up a room.
When I fell in love with soaps, each soap only had a few sets. They were usually living rooms. Each show would maybe have one restaurant and maybe some makeshift offices where people could be outside of their homes. Dougs Place on Days was basically a black room with a few tables a small stage and a bar. I was fine with that. The things that went on on that set were always interesting and often heart rendering. Trish or Doug or Robert would get up on stage and sing some sad love song (Don't Cry out Loud or Send in the Clowns or My Funny Valentine) while the heart broken lovers would stare at eachother across the room. (Close up on Julie turning her head away closing her eyes while tears streamed down her cheeks) Now that was good soap.
