Did Execs Ask Wendy Williams to "Tone it Down" for New Season?
By Jamey Giddens on September 03, 2010

Here we go again. According to the New York Post, executives for The Wendy Williams Show have asked the hostess to be less "How you doin'?" and more apple pie and bridge club, in order to appeal to "middle America moms". While a show rep denied the claim to the Post, the newspaper maintains a Wendy producer was dumped and the hair and makeup team was asked to tone down Wendy's look, while the media queen has been reportedly asked to change her tone.

Hmm, wasn't it Williams' outrageous radio personality that first brought her to the attention of these same execs? She has already watered down the brash, explosive interviewing style, utilized during her radio days, for daytime. How much more do they want a sistah to change?
I doubt Williams' diehard fans want to see her talking about scrapbooking projects and bowling leagues. Besides, how has being tame worked out for Rachael Ray or Martha Stewart? Both of their talkers saw ratings plummet last season and they definitely appeal to "middle America" moms. Nobody puts Wendy in the corner!

Wendy's a savvy business woman, so I doubt she'd move forward with any kind of format changes unless she felt comfortable doing so.
We keep her show on during the day at work and I noticed a slightly softer tone to her over the last several months, but I think it works for her. She seems more relaxed and comfortable now, less trainwreck. (Her first few months on the air were awkward and uncomfortable as she tried to adapt to the TV format.)
I don't think she'll ever lose the wackiness that makes her Wendy, but I think the days of cracklin' Slim Jims might be over.

I was NOT a fan of Wendy's prior to her show, but I enoyed her first season. Plus she has mad love for daytime soaps. There aren't many venues for soap stars to go and promote themselves in the mainstream. Wendy's had Vanessa Marcil, Victoria Rowell, Eileen Davidson, Finola Hughes, etc. I hope she sticks around for years to come.

I am a Black woman born, raised, and have always lived in New York City, and Wendy can be too much for me sometimes. Having said that, I think the pluses outweigh the minuses and I already have her programmed in the DVR when she gets back next week, and she is the only talk show on the DVR. In the talk show world, Jennifer Aniston and any other a-lister promoting that week's new movie is going to be on every show but Wendy's, I see Wendy as an escape from the every day.

I am an African American and I say shut her down. Cancel this joke of a show. She takes foolishness to a new level with her ghetto self.

I am on the fence about Wendy Williams. BTW: How you doooooiinnnn???????? Okay, now that I've got that outta the way:
Wendy can definitely be a little bit um...too (insert your own adjectives here----ghetto, over-the-top, "TRANNYISH" (bad tranny, not good tranny!
) but she is entertaining, in my opinion. There are certain moments when I get the feeling that her mother could've given her more "home training," but I feel that much of her schtick is simply designed to draw in viewers. She does come across as mean-spirited and bitchy at times, but she's basically acting.
Besides, the talk show industry is competitive, and most people don't have the personality (or acting skills!) to make it work for even ONE season, so I applaud her success. And I sincerely hope that they don't water her down TOO much!!
I, for one, like a little garishness in the afternoon!!!!!!!!!!

LOL, alstonboy, the View is just like the WW show, but with five women, LOL. So if the View is not toning it down, why does Wendy has too?

Siomon~~~
Wendy's personality/sense of humor is very "hit or miss." Sometimes, she hits the nail right on the head, and she's marvelously hilarious, but then there are those rare occasions when she appears to be doing/saying a little bit TOO much, which could easily offend the demographic of women who like to sit at home on their overpriced furniture, sipping their overpriced coffees and clutch their pearls as she utters comments that they find to be "Scandalous!!!" (gasp!
)
All talk show hosts who work on network television have to tow some kind of line, but I also think censorship has gotten WAY too out of hand in 2010. We've developed into a society where a handful of people want to control what everyone sees, hears, thinks and feels.
If someone doesn't like what they see on TV, it's very simple: Turn the freaking channel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
