SPOILER ALERT:Score one for ABC Daytime. They finally managed to keep a major casting shocker a secret! This week's Soap Opera Digest reveals that popular mustache twirler David Hayward is the person who dies on All My Children, and that his portrayer—Daytime Emmy winner Vincent Irizarry—is out!
According to AMC's co-head writer David "Killer" Kreizman (Melodie Aikels (tm)) the decision was "storyline-dictated". If David is really dead and Kreizman and Donna Swajeski really just killed off one of soap's most popular villains, then someone needs to be horse whipped up and down a dirt road just as naked as they came into the world! For more on this story, pick up the September 14 issue of Soap Opera Digest on newstands now.

Jamey Thx for the scoop
Look Love VI and David But Daytime Used To Throw Surprises At Us All The Time Back In The Day & I give Em Credit for Doing It So As Much As Id Miss VI/David, If He Stays Dead Id Be Happy Cause It Shows Me Writers Are Still Capable Of HUGE TWISTS

Thats it! If Ryan gets the upper hand of David and David is killed off I'm done with AMC, I just can't handle another Rylee reunion, and the destruction of David (even more)

David Hayward has been transformed into a cartoon villain who I can neither empathize with or feel sorry for, but I love Vincent Irizarry!!! You mean to tell me that Kreizman and Co. couldn't come up with any more compelling story to tell for this character???? So they simply gave up???? How lame.
There are at least FOUR characters who I would have GLADLY said ADIOS to--- Colby, Liza, Borissa, Randi.....but they get rid of one of the show's most interesting actors/stars???
Is it too late to call up McTrashy and beg her to come back??????

I don't get it either Kreizman and Co wrote for Alan Spaulding and they turned him into a cartoon villain of course they did kill him off but not until the last episode. This means they'll be left with Ryan, JR, Scott and mmmm Frankie and Jessie thats it for leading men.

Chuck Pratt would never have done it!
No wonder he thanked him in his Emmy speech.

I haven't watched this show regularly for over a decade in part because I cannot stand "supervillians" like David. It'll take a lot more than this to get me back but this is a good start.

WTF is wrong with the headwriters of AMC? The show is getting good and now they did this? If VI don't want to do the bicoastal thing anymore, I wouldn't be upset, but by killing him off? I hope that David fake his death and comes to Llanview. That would be a good s/l and VI would be great on there. Frons, put VI on OLTl.

Jamey, I'm counting on you to dig up the REAL scoop on VI's contract situation for us, not this propaganda ABCD is putting out via the mags! I personally think David "dying" will be his greatest scheme ever!

Thats not cool. Although David isn't the David we all knew and loved, I was hoping in time writing would get better and Vincent would be able to play him they way he was portrayed in the past. Vincent is such a good actor and David was once a great character.....to lose Vincent is just pitiful....thanks alot AMC. :/

I think this is a fake out. I don't think David really dies, I think he will fake his death. Just in last weeks SOD, with the Fall previews, Kreizman and Swajeski were quoted saying that David would play a "Puppeteer" in the Fall. Why would they say that if they were going to kill him off anyways?? Really don't think he's dead, he'll show up in a few weeks alive and well, and that's where the puppeteer stuff will come into play. He'll be haunting and controlling everyone in PV, with his fake death scheme. I personally, would love it lol!
Now if he's really dead and AMC really got rid of him, OMG shame on them! HUGE loss!

Now I definitely have been one of those AMC viewers who were getting very, very tired of watching David get the Victor Newman/Sonny Corinthos like treatment and get away with every damn nasty thing he does but that in no way means I’m happy to see Vincent Irizarry go. First and foremost, Vincent has been one of my all time favorite soap actors since he played Lujack on THE GUIDING LIGHT. Secondly, David Hayworth, if WRITTEN WELL, can be a very complex and love to hate them bad guy and a large part of that has to do with Vincent being the superb actor that he is. That’s the way I saw it when he was first brought onto the AMC canvas.
I’m sad to read this because I was hoping that the writing would come around and write David Hayworth the way he should be written. With that said, Vincent’s one of those actors whose new character I will check out on whatever soap he ends up on.
God, can you imagine what Claire Labine could do with that character. That’s right. I’m still hoping before daytime drama becomes extinct that two things will happen. Brian Frons, as I love to hear my girl Jillian say, kick rocks and Claire Labine writes for AMC. Oh well!
appleridge, I love your Richie/Broderick suggestion. As much as I would love to see what Labine could do with AMC, Lorraine was the head writer of what many consider AMC’s second golden age (Agnes Nixon head writing being the first).

Oh yeah, bring on the thermonuclear revenge David, all the while sunning himself on a tropical island he owns accompanied by a beautiful hot babe, a frosty adult beverage and his trademark smirk!

I don't know. I don't see much story left for David. I like him but he has supposedly ruined so many lives that I'm surprised they haven't killed him any sooner. Maybe with him really dead, he and Dixie can haunt Tad.

What a train wreck this show has become, even more so if VI is, in fact, off that show while they have so many other lame characters still on it. VI is terrific. He deserves better.

I'm done! I quit watching once they started ending what could have been a viable romance between Greenlea and David to restart Rylee part 20. There are only a few characters that I still like on this show and David was one of them.
Don't get me wrong, Cameron Matheson is a nice guy but I am not watching AMC for the character of Ryan Lavery. If anything, I usually change the channel and watch Y&R or DOOL until he is off the screen.
They always had the ability to make Adam this horrendous man/father but gave him enough humanity to make the people in his life love and care about him. The same went for Palmer Courtlandt. Why couldn't the same be done for DH who was such a vibrant character? What hack writers!

ICAM. I've been hanging on to AMC by the slimmest of David threads for years wanting to see him have the love and family he so craves and had for a brief time with Leo/Greens/Anna/Leora, with a woman I liked for a change! The potential was there with LB's David/Greens, but not with show killer Kreizman!

Holly effin' Christ. Just when you think the show is scraping the bottom of the barrel, they find a way to crack through the bottom. AMC is officially an embarrassment. Yet again they prove they have no idea what the fans want.

We'll see, but it seems as if he fakes his death and rides off into the sunset, or he could be working with someone or he really does die, we'll see.

David lost me when he had sex with Greenlee. She was always like his daughter-Ewwww
But no one ever dies on a soap. No one. Not even an aborted fetus.

I loved that David finally had a family in Leo, Greenlea, Anna, Leora and Maggie! Yet after Leo's death the writers once again got the Martins involved wrongly in his business and tore that family apart. Then he finally has friends and affection with Bianca and Kendall, but that is ripped to shreds when he is guilted in to helping his ungrateful daughter and her mother disguise the fact that she had Bianca's baby.
I am tired of David being portrayed as this Machiavellian villain. He has layers and depth. Or should I say that he used to...lazy writers!

Come on everyone...we all know that ABC tends to tell the same story at the same time on 2 of their shows....David (and Tea) will both return to their respective shows...and my prediction is that they both return with HUGE characters/actors...

I am shocked and royally pissed! I love VI and was waiting with baited breath for David & Greenlee to either really fall in love,or Liza & David to join forces! These writers don't know what they have In Vincent!!!! DAMN!!!!!

Why is it that when I click on the SOD link in this story, it takes me to the SOD website, but there's no mention of VI being out? Their "breaking news" story is Nancy Lee Grahn's lack of airtime on GH this summer. What's up?
Even if they want to save the juicy details for the magazine edition, wouldn't they at least tease it on their website?

TV Gord, they reported it in their latest magazine, not on the website--which is another reason why I don't think he's out for good. Usually, they put breaking casting news on their website to. Even if they put it in their magazine, they put it on their site to and they also reference that it's in their latest issue. (i.e. "read the latest issue of SOD for more info") that's not the case on this one.
