Y&R's Jeanne Cooper: "I'm Not Here So Katherine Can Serve Rice Pudding"

The Young and the Restless' Jeanne Cooper (Katherine) is fired up and isn't holding anything back. In the latest edition of Soap Opera Digest, the actress talked candidly about her character's current state of docility. Said Cooper:
"I had a talk with Maria Arena Bell that this has to stop," huffs Cooper. "There's such a thing when characters move into a secondary position for a small time, but when they do open their mouths, it should mean something. Katherine has never been a floater with, 'Yes, dear,' or 'Oh, I understand.' She says, 'You did it and you deserve it!'
Cooper also voiced her gripes about her storyline with Stephen Nichols (Tucker) falling by the wayside.
That started off great," Cooper acknowledges. "We had some dynamite stuff. They made Tucker such a dynamic person and an equal to Victor Newman, but now they've minimalized him and it hurts me because Stephen Nichols is such a good actor and we do get along very well. Katherine and Tucker have a wonderful love/hate thing, but that's been dropped. It doesn't make sense. Just like Mackenzie is living in Katherine's house and carried someone's babies. I maybe had two scenes with her the entire time. She's Katherine's only granddaughter and she doesn't give a flying fig about Mac being pregnant? I told them I'm not here so Katherine can serve rice pudding. They can put a blonde wig on someone else for that."
Boy, I hope she doesn't get into any trouble for that! (Snort).

I guess, she's also gonna get back-burned for another few months
She is right though.....what ever happened to Kay/Tucker's relationship as mother and son?

Maria Arena Bell I am sure hates everyone right now! Her press just keeps getting better and better.
LOL Ms Chancelor is right. The Tucker storyline just disappeared. It's like before pairing Tucker with Ashley they didn't know what to do with him. It's very unfortunate.

Smitty,
Told you so! Katherine Chancellor was a bitch on wheels and not some doting granny who needs the help of men to protect her.
It's time to let the real Katherine Chancellor unleash her claws. She's hard core. No, I'm not advocating a return of a Katherine vs. Jill storyline. That's water under the bridge. They are now mother and daughter. But that doesn't mean that Katherine can't have another enemy that she takes on battles.

Josstheguy,
Jill and Katherine are NOT mother and daughter and a return to a their bitter rivalry from the past would be just fine with me. There playing nice to each other does not get it for me IMO

Katherine is a senile old woman who hates Jill now that they're not blood.
I'd like to see a story where Katherine has to be put in a nursing home. It happens in real life, it's a social issue, and it could be told very well on Y&R.

I've hated Katherine ever since the cow learned Jill wasn't her daughter and started treating her like garbage.
I think Jeanne Cooper would do well in a story where Kay's in a nursing home and uncovers an "elders abuse" scandal.

They already did elder abuse two decades ago with Cricket and her senior citizen pals. Shhh! Don't tell Maria, she will won't to do it better!

Why not have a love scene with Kay and Murphy???

For me, a little bit of Katherine goes a long way. She was featured in two major storylines over the past year and I think that's just about right. Even at her age, I guess Ms Cooper is not exempt from having the ego that many actors are known for.

NOPE she's safe... She, Peter Bergman and THE EB can say whatever they want. Nothing's gonna happen. NOW. If she were Kristoff......

Preach, Miss Cooper!!! Tell the truth and leave the devil in the corner sucking his....or in this case, HER thumb!!!!
Not every character can be on the frontburner all the time, but Katherine Chancellor is the grand dame of Genoa City, and she deserves to return to her TRUE fiery roots.
And as far as I'm concerned, any hell that Katherine has given Jill over the years, and vice versa, has been well-deserved. They have both been torturing each other almost equally. It was NEVER meant to be a lovey-dovey relationship, it was always meant to be contemptuous and full of derision. It keeps things interesting.
Maria, as usual, needs to pull her head out of her hind parts and create story for Genoa City's most beloved female character---well, at least my favorite female character in Genoa City.

They are letting characters with established histories wither on the vine so they can devote screen time to a limp corrupt police department storyline? Let these new actors spend time in the background, maybe they can learn how to act by watching Eric and Jeannie!

I was excited about the Tucker storyline with the original Tucker, not so much with this new guy, he's rather drab.
The story is a little ridiculous. I have watched Kay and Jill feud for years over Chancellor it's more than STRANGE that neither really cares that Tucker has taken it. How can two women fight over something for a lifetime and it suddenly not matter anymore?
The Fenmome thing hadn't even happened yet. The Jill I know would have been pulling out all the stops to regain her Chancellor position, but she shrugs her shoulders at the whole ordeal?
If they aren't going to have Jill and Kay get it back, I hope they find out Tucker is a fake. I'm not understanding what he adds to the Newman/Abbott rivalry. Ashley's looking great so we can find her a handsome new boyfriend a touch younger.

Let's see if the people at Sony, CBS and the Bell family will let her get away with this. Now if she was a person of color she would all but disappear or even fired. The African American viewers need to boycott this show and watch it go down the toilet until they learn to respect us.

Kenyon, you are on point. I will not watch Y&R until things change. I am boycotting the show.
PS, I glad that Jeanne is speaking out, but you can't have double standards when one does it and the other can't or can and get backburner.

I love Jeanne Cooper and Kay, but in the last year or so, watching Kay onscreen has become somewhat painful. She stumbles and mumbles through her lines, stops midway through a sentence, and clearly has trouble remembering or at least verbalizing her lines.
She has always been the one to call out other actors on the show that she doesn't deem worthy or of great enough talent, and yet she is the one who looks amateurish as of late. Also, her delivery of her lines is always the same - pretty much yelling her lines in order to increase her sense of importance and impose her authority.
Allegedly, Kristoff was put on backburner for four months because he spoke out. Perhaps JC is currently on the backburner because the show runners are already sick of her constant griping. I'm sure this latest statement will not help her cause.

Well the poor dear is in her eighties so we can’t expect her to give the same caliber of performance as ten or twenty years ago.
I’d also say that being in her eighties, she should be grateful for whatever airtime she gets. The other five shows aren’t featuring performers of that age.

Jeanne Cooper is a treasure as far as I am concerned and I must say WE are lucky that she still continues to want to handle as much storyline as Y&R will throw her way.
She could have retired a long time ago if she had wanted to but no lucky for us that was not the case.

Cooper should have just kept her mouth shut instead of bitching and complaining for 6 years about having to play Jill's mother. When they were related, she had MORE screen time and greater storyline potential. But....she was VERY unhappy and complained and complained until they FINALLY gave her what she wanted (no more familial tie to Jill). And she's STILL complaining!
She has no one to blame but herself as far as I'm concerned.
