Here We Go Again! Y&R Snags Father Knows Best's Elinor Donahue
By Jillian Bowe on July 28, 2010

TV Guide's Michael Logan is reporting the stunt-casting bonanza over at The Young and the Restless continues. Y&R has hired Father Knows Best star Elinor Donahue to act as a judge who officiates Billy (Billy Miller) and Victoria's (Amelia Heinle) wedding slated for Sept 8 (my birthday of all days). Head writer Scott Hamner stated,
Relationship and romance is partly about trying to achieve a retro-fantasy of better, simpler times — bringing Elinor on amps up that homage to the perfect family," says Y&R co-head writer Scott Hamner. "We have great admiration for Elinor. She's an iconic part of our collective psyche and it seemed like we couldn't do it without her. We love her!"
The sound you hear is my head exploding all over the DC offices.

This Makes No sense
Roles like this and Susan Olsen's role on sept 1 could have gone to day players that pays around 200-300
But By casting Elinor & Susan You have to pay so much more and no offense but day players could do these roles justice and get a food in the door
YR is spenmding too much money when its not necessary

It's press for the show and doesn't really detract from current story. Susan Olsen's doesn't either. It's an appearance and supposed to just be fun. We should leave it at that. It is getting a bit much but whatev. The show is SO much better right now then it was 6 months ago. Did everyone see Chloe tear it up on Monday?! WOW

If they are gonna engage in stunt casting and dried up actors for day parts to "stimulate publicity," they can at least try to find actors who are at least SOMEWHAT recognizable, and who aren't so painfully obscure that you have to GOOGLE their names to find out what they've been doing for the past twenty years!!!!!

Maybe they are just keeping up with the Jones.....
After all Ralph Waite is the preist that marries people over in Salem. Plus I doubt they have to pay these people that much. There is some precedence for casting the minister with a name. That is often done on soaps with judges and ministers. So I don't mind really. But really we are watching this wedding to find out if Victor shoots Billy or not.

Still don't see the big deal. And I can't imagine either Susan Olsen or Ms. Donahue are gonna empty the coffers at Sony. They're probably making scale, just as celebs do for talk show appearances.

I agree, and I am TOTALLY serious. He could produce Abby's next sex tape. I hear he has some experience in that field???

I say cool.
If MAB and Co. want to hire these people then great for them.

I don't mind. I wouldn't recognize the faces of these people (even if they were famous once) in the same way I wouldn't recognize day players.

Why is this stunt casting? Elinor Donahue is a SOAP VET! She has appeared on Days of Our Lives, Sunset Beach, and Santa Barbara!

I really do not get all of this consternation about so called "stunt" casting. For one thing it is non of our business how or why these people were hired and what they are being paid. Also, we should be happy to see the brief appearance of a somehow familiar face.
On the reverse I never see any complaints when a current or past alumni appears in an episode of or a regular in a prime time series. The only thing I really wonder about is why our favourites have such rare (if at all) appearances in nighttime talk shows such as Leno, Letterman etc.
