Was Maria Arena Bell Going To Bring Victoria Rowell Back To Y&R?
So, for the past 3 days there's been an appointed liaison between Maria Bell and myself, contacting me via text, at my Atlanta home, &in LA.
I found it odd first of all, that I was being approached as a respected & tenured actor, with theatrical representation in this way.
I was insulted to learn that Maria Arena Bell was "trying" to bring me back. Phooey! After everything I've given and been through on Y&R...
The word TRY shouldn't even be in the mix. A respectful business call would have been appropriate. And so you see, EVEN on a business level.
there is a demonstration of disrespect. I know for a fact Maria made it possible for Eric Braeden's return so how hard did she TRY for him?
I have this to say: It's all contingent upon who is perceived as important, WHO Maria is willing to take lumps 4 & WHOSE bluffs she'll call.

Rowell's previous tweets about the negative experiences she allegedly faced at Y&R have been making the news for the past few weeks, from The Wall Street Journal to the popular urban blog YBF Among the allegations Rowell made, which caught the eye of the mainstream media, was an item about Y&R leading lady Melody Thomas Scott reportedly running around the set wearing a clown-colored, afro wig to mock Rowell's then-ethnic hairdo.

Arrrrrrgh.
Victoria Rowell is two steps up from a #sityoassdown in my book. I get that she was a popular character and I remember loving her to bits when she was on and I was perplexed when they killed her off. But here's a couple of things:
1. Why go back to a show that made the biggest mistake in the world of letting you go? Don't they say that living well is the best revenge? Why are you worried about the soap that let you go in the first place?
2. Why go back to a show that currently is writing like a trainwreck for 80% of the people on its canvas? And why would you want to put yourself in the position of being written poorly and complaining about THAT 6 months after you're hired?
3. Why are you making this so public? In most cases, the squeaky wheel gets the grease, but if they've not greased you in this long...
I just get irritated everytime I see her stomping her foot about how YR treated her. Everyone else has moved on for the most part because if not, she'd have BEEN back already.
...you know, now that I've had a chance to reread this, I guess it's time. She needs to #sityoassdown.

Lord, be a fence!! Melody Thomas Scott, you know better!! If this IS true, I officially have no more sympathy for Mrs. Scott for her lack of airtime, storyline or anything else!! Talk about going back to the days of Jim Crow!!! (sheesh!)Ironically, Mrs. Scott could probably use that colorful wig nowadays, as she appears to be having hair issues of her own onscreen nowadays. How quickly the tides turn............................Nikki Newman's hair is a hellified, scarefied MESS!!!
As far as Eric Braeden having Ma Bell by her balls, that's certainly nothing new. He mumbles and Moonves, Bloom, Rauch and Bell come running!!! And certain actors clearly have their hands in certain pies that other actors can't gain access to. Yes, political BS is the order of the day at the Bell studios, and has been for quite some time. No secret there.
I do agree that Ma Bell should be more professional than to try to conduct business via text message. Are we 12?? What did she message her?? LOL, smileyface???? These are the capable hands that have been entrusted with CBS Daytime's golden goose??? Excuse me while I vomit!!
Some actors warrant caviar and champagne, and others warrant fried bologna and warm Pepsi?? I guess Maria and Victoria are no longer friends. I remember her saying that they share some of the same charitable endeavors, and that she she was (quote, unquote: A smart businesswoman.) I guess she's off her Christmas card list and no longer inivited to her next Christmas party??
As I have said before, Vicki is too good for Maria's foolishness and increasingly high level of incompetence. As someone once said: "I can do bad by myself!" Too bad Mrs. Rowell is doing ANYTHING but bad.............and doing it quite well!!!

What I don't understand is why Rowell didn't text back, "Would appreciate a phone call. Contact my agent to discuss opportunity."
On the other hand, do we know if the person who texted Rowell was inexperienced or just using what that person thought was acceptable communication?
Ultimately, if MAB was trying to bring Rowell back, why not meet her half way?
As for MTS, if what Rowell says is true, then MTS was a jerk.

Well I guess Ms. Rowell must have another project that she wants publicity for. That seems to be when she cries and moans about YandR. She was NEVER the reason the show is the number ! show. She was a part of it but not THE reason and she and others need to remember that fact. Why she doesn't need to come back can be summed up in one word... Sophia!

This treatment of AA actors is well aware in the industry and Victoria Rowell is speaking out about the mistreatment of black actors in the industry that has a very large AA fanbase, so I glad she is speaking out and putting people on blast. The industry is in trouble, we all know this, as a black man, they don't respect me or care about me as a viewer, so keeping doing the thing, Victoria.

You are EXACTLY right. Some people like to PRETEND that AA characters and actors don't get the short end of the stick, but that argument is INDEFENSIBLE!! I am also a black man, and no one can deny the fact that daytime is being systematically DRAINED of all it's color---minority by minority. When BLATANT racism is exhibited behind the scenes, it's often easier to jump to the whole "That bitch is crazy" rationalization instead of trying to figure out WHY someone is angry!! Being treated like a SECOND RATE citizen should NOT be acceptable for the most popular black female actress to ever grace CBS Daytime!!! I don't blame her for not wanting to stick around and passive-aggressively gnaw on the table scraps of the Eric Braedens and Melody Thomas Scotts.

Alstonboy- I love you and I know she's your girl, but--why in the world is she doing this?? Talk about beating a dead horse!! Hollywood is a small town, I hope she hasn't burned all her bridges! I certainly can't account for Mrs. Rowell's motivations, and believe it or not, there are certain things she says that sometimes incite a few raised eyebrows from yours truly. Sometimes, she says things a little bit more bluntly, and is a little bit more direct than I would be, but I still support her wholeheartedly.
I don't think we will EVER know the whole story behind what took place behind the scenes with Melody Thomas Scott, or with Michelle Stafford for that matter (not going there again! LOL!!), but I am not gonna say that it's not a distinct POSSIBILITY. I do like Melody Thomas Scott, and would HATE to believe she would be capable of doing something so hideously disrespectful.
I have already preached my sermon for the night, and don't want to retread old territory, but I will simply say that I am sure that Vicki had to deal with a LOT of racism, inequality and demoralizing actions and words BEHIND the scenes, and that kinda stuff does stay with you, and it can lead to bitterness. Those who have never had to deal with it might not understand, but dealing with discrimination does breed contempt.
If someone made fun of my heritage by prancing around in some Afro wig while trying to create some imaginary punchline out of it, I don't know WHAT I'd do.

What does Victoria has to lose, nothing for all I can think? Y&R is in the toilet, creatively and marketing and their are going to be so more casting costs by the end of next year, even if the ratings stay the same. Y&R is over budget and the networks are not caring about saving the genre, so some behind the scenes changes better happen or it won't be a Y&R to watch on CBS.

i love love LOVE her and think everything she has to say probably has serious merit . . . but her methods are NOT going to help her. She talks about her legacy but THE FACT is that she is not an employee anymore and she's not going to be at this rate. If she could get back inside CBS then maybe she'd have a chance to make some changes but her current methods via twitter are only a back door to crazy town.
I think the show is the star and everyone on that team should shut up and get over themselves and take them back. Peter Bergman or Melody probably would never have to work with her and I'm sure Michelle would and could do a few scenes with her. Christel can muster up the strength to do the same and Victoria is game to go with anyone in the cast regardless of any beef they have with her.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE CBS. These tweets are a bit much but Y&R is gonna be Y&RIP if some changes don't happen.

When she first came on the show she was a runaway with no money. I do not remember MTS wearing runaway clothes. I am sick of hearing about the racism issue. Hollywood is known for embracing minority groups, especially BLacks. I do believe that her problems are of her own making. She is a diva who is extremely talented but I also believe she is a diva who is a little more than in love with herself. She wanted to write for the show and when that was not an option she got mad. When the cast did not nominate her for a pre-Emmy nom, she quit! Cry me a river, build a bridge , and get over it. I really loved the comments about if she so innocent here, why hasn't she been picked up by another show. Great point!

I can't believe the ignorant comments that some have posted. To say that Victoria Rowell is hurting the African American people is ridiculous! As usual, we are place in the same barrel..looked at totally as a group and not as individuals. It is 2010 people not 1967, get with the program. Also, until you walk a mile in a person's shoes, don't pretend to know what they are going through.
I am an African American male and I for once would love someone who is not to walk in my shoes for just a DAY. At the end of the day you will be dying to get back into your own skin. The examples of overt and covert racism I experience each day is astounding. I am not playing the "race card" as so many people like to use the term (such a foolish term in the first place)and I doubt Victoria Rowell is playing it either! She is probably speaking the truth. None of us know what goes on behind the scenes of these shows. When you are dealing with people you are always going to have office politics no matter what. Why is it so hard to believe she is telling the truth when you have a cast behind the scenes that is totally Caucasian? Oh, I am sorry there was one African American on staff as mentioned by Victoria Rowell. As usual, we are expected to keep our mouths shut, our heads down and be "team players."
By the way, just because Y&R was not sued for the stunt Melody Thomas Scott allegedly pulled does not mean it did not happen. MTS is one of my favorite characters on the show but if she did do this I have no sympathy for her reduced role on the show.

sorry but CK and MS have been working FOR the show since the "poster child for mental health" walked out cause she got her thong in a knot cause she was not allowed to write for the show, what has it been 4 years ago now???
CK and MS are also Emmy nominated actors, who have put up with VR bashing them every chance she gets for no apparent reason other then it appears she is jealous that they are working and she is not and they have a life and she does not...that says it all...she is not working, no one wants her and her baggage
VR needs to learn to let it go and move on with her "full" life, cause it is apparent, Y & R, CBS, SONY and the cast and crew have moved on without her

I like VR. But I do think she should move on. Having said that, as a Black woman, her words about Y&R have had a lasting effect on me.
I can't stomach the sight of Peter Bergman now and I have loved him since he was Dr. Cliff Warner on AMC. I have never liked the character of Phyllis, but now I want to throw up in my mouth if I see Michelle Stafford onscreen.
And for all of the people that are wondering why another soap hasn't snapped VR up? A fourth grader or a goat knows the answer to that. Why the hell would another soap hire a Black actress, when they're not writing/creating any Black characters? Where would she go? Let's see...Days does nothing with Renee Jones and James Reynolds...
Oh and there is AMC...yeah, well I think Angie(oh and I just love all of the diseased Black women characters on daytime. Lily has had cancer for years now and Angie is now blind AND pregnant...lovely) and Jesse with their dull to non-existant storylines, fill the quota over there.
OLTL just fired that actress that played Rachel, put the actress that portrayed Layla on backburner and is too stupid to get the very lovely actress that played Evangeline back. And they don't want to. Now what's left on the air...
General Hospital is the worst soap opera on the air and hasn't had a decent Black storyline ever. B&B had a 'black storyline' once back in the early 90's, where in which a homeless Black woman kicked it with Stephanie. B&B is kind of surprising, considering where the town is actually located. At the very least, one would think they would have plenty of Hispanic characters.
Now back to my first paragraph. VR should move on and not worry about that tired show asking her back or even wanting her back. I personally don't care anymore what these shows do. I mean if it is THAT hard for this industry to write for people that don't look like them, then whatever. It is what it is. I'll watch the characters I do like, when they're given storylines that are even semi-interesting(that seems to be a challenge these days, especially for Y&R).
I have no doubt whatsoever, that the next 'Black storyline' planned for Y&R, will be Lily recovering from cancer and getting scarlet fever.
