Watch the Extended ATWT Emmy Tribute!
By Luke Kerr on June 30, 2010
Many As the World Turns fans watching the recent 37th Annual Daytime Emmys felt the tribute the iconic series received was too short. Now CBS has released the extended version online. Watch it after the jump! Thanks to fpai03 for the tip!

Makes me sad to watch more of Nancy, Bob, Kim, Hal, Barbra. Each passing day makes it harder and harder to watch, been watching the old clips on you tube. Watching ATWT back in it's hay day, back when soaps were soaps. My mom and Grandma's use to talk half an hour on the phone about ATWT & GL. With 4th of July coming up use to unwrap fire crackers and talk about them, watched them for sentimental reasons.
Has it ever happen that characters from a soap go on other soaps as the characters, that would make it better. Like how Y&R an B&B characters switch soaps, I know they are owned by the same company.

I never even watched this show and it makes me sad to see it go. It has so much rich history. Makes me think about Days of our Lives being canceled someday. Don't want to think about it at all!!

Still pretty pathetic. They didn't bring up the sound on any of those clips? And they used the most boring, generic piece of music I've ever heard.

ATWT should NOT be going off the air!! PERIOD!! It's still a hugely entertaining show. Right now, I'd much rather see OLTL go off the air than ATWT!! I wish they could switch places.
Okay, so maybe I'm being melodramatic and harsh. I don't want to see ANY of the soaps go off the air, but despite it's 54 year history, I still feel like this show is leaving the air before it's time!!
Sniffle, sniffle....

I completely understand why Guiding Light had to go. There really was no more story to tell or interest in the show after people like Ellen Wheeler had completely ruined it. But I think ATWT has once again become one of the top shows when it comes to good storytelling, sparkling dialogue, and great performances.
At one point there were EIGHTEEN soap operas on the air at the same time. Each had something for everyone. Now we're left with soaps that rehash and sometimes outright steal storyline ideas from each other. I'll never care about any websoap the way I cared about my stories on TV. Once they're gone, I'll be catching up on my reading.

It's all about money and ratings, networks don't care how much these shows are loved, it's all about the cheapest bang for there buck; lord up the other soaps, better start campaigning for them now. As we know doesn't do much good once they are axed. They are heartless bastards.

I was disappointed with the extended tribute as well. It was kind of all over the place and I wanted to see even more of the scenes from the past. So many great characters and storylines deserved to be represented, but weren't. I was watching this show as an infant (one of my first memories is of Nancy taking Lisa to task about something while they were in a kitchen - I'm guessing that was in 1967 or '68), I remember being so excited when the show expanded to an hour, and when we got our first color TV and I could finally see the amazing sets and wardrobe in "living color", and then there were so many years of amazing stories and wonderful actors... I think I deserve to see a tribute that honors that history.
