BREAKING: Maura West Wins Outstanding Lead Actress (Updated)

Congratulations to Maura West for winning the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress. How sweet were she and her little girl onstage? West has been nominated two times for Outstanding Supporting Actress since she's played the role of Carly Tenney in 1995. She was nominated four times for Outstanding Lead Actress and once for a special Daytime Emmy for Irresistible Combination alongside her co-star Michael Park in 2005.  Her first Daytime Emmy win was in 2007 for Outstanding Lead Actress.

I was beyond exstatic when they called Maura's name. Kathering crying and holding her Mom's arm was just adorable. I am so happy for the ATWT actors tonight.

She was my pick to win, though I didn't see any of the critics pick her.

I like Maura West.. she has a great name lol. Not to mention Michael Easton said it correctly so that made my night.. She's a great actress. She, Michael, Billy and Julie Berman all deserved their emmy's.. the other two were absolutely ridiculous

I like Maura West and I loved her award speech especially with her daughter. My heart does hurt for CC yea she's never going to pick up an award for Days "no way no how" the best she can do is run as fast as she can away from that show when her contract is up recurring would be better than what she's got going on right now.

Congrats to Maura West. I am glad that this talented actress will have the distinction of winning the LAST Emmy that ATWT will ever receive in an acting category---I think, unless they get submitted and win next year?? She's truly one of the best actresses in daytime, and I am so proud of how far she's come since 1995 when she first came on.

Crystal Chappell has an Emmy, and unfortunately, she's gonna have to settle for just having one. She's DEFINITELY not gonna win for DAYS. I love her to death, and I am just glad she has the title EMMY WINNER, even though it seems to mean precious little when actors like Drew Tyler Bell have the same damned title---UNDESERVEDLY so!!!

My pressure is rising again thinking about that boy beating my Drew Garrett!!! Time for me to go to bed!!!!!!!!

I don't know if ATWT is eligible or not next year. I know that GL was (well this was their last year) so more than likely ATWT will be eligible to submit next year also they will just have to pay for it themselves like GL did this year.

So thrilled that Maura won. What a way to end it all as Carly Tenney... with an EMMY. She deserved it.

I did some figuring and ATWT can submit something from their last month on the air for the Emmy's next year so they still have a chance if something great happens in that last month.

I really wanted Crystal Chappell to win. However I'm happy that Maura West won. If Crystal could not win it. Then at least Maura won the Emmy and went out with a bang! So congrats to Maura!

Congrats to Maura and so sweet that her young daughter got to share in the moment with her.

However, I share the sentiments of those that have written above about Crystal, and am sad that she didn't win. I also agree with those that Crystal will never win with Days. We all know what a talented actress she is, but she is just not being given the proper material, which is so sad to see.

Congrats to Maura, but Crystal Chappell got ROBBED! That was her Emmy. She was hands down the best lead actress in 2009 and I feel like this is the last GL snub and it stings the most, frankly. Did the voters not see her performance?! I mean, were they like blind and def while reviewing the candidates?! I do not understand. At all.

Gang,

When I was deciding who would win in which category by reading the synopsis of what each actor submitted, Crystal's was weak whereas Maura had very strong material as her character Carly was dealing with her alcoholism. That's why she won in that category.

What? I don't get it???? This was Crystal Chappell's Emmy. The judges were totally off base and not just on this category. The only one they got right was Billy Miller.

Sorry Maura, I think you got this by default. Would it have been that much of a controversy to award the Emmy to the best actress who earned from a now canceled show, apparently so.

Crystal Chappell is the Best Actress!

No class at all, CC was NOT rub it just was not her year, she is good but frankly NOT that good.

Maura West is a great actress and deserve this award, I am fed up with people and CC obsession!

Maura West bring it EVERY TIME even with the drivel that ATWT gives her, CC cannot bring it on DAYS, a good actress can!

This Emmy should have been Crystal Chappell's. It was she who gave the performance of the year.

I wonder if people have actually seen Maura's intervention clips who think CC was robbed she was absolutely amazing, if not seriously check it out. It's not like CC lost to some horrible no talent actress, Maura is one of the best in Daytime, I can almost buy it was a close call but lets not act like Maura's win was some crime before God, she rocked those scenes.

I watched her intervention clips they were good, but reminded me to much of when Maura won before. All the clips were good, even Bobbie Eakes (of course some were better than hers)

I think people are so upset because this is actually CC as Olivia Spencers last chance at a lead actress win. Maura could possibly get nominated and win next year for ATWT's last month on the air its possible because GL received a few noms this year.

Either way its not like Maura is a bad actress I agree she's very good my heart does still hurt for CC and the punch to the gut felt very real.

and Timepass, please don't diss CC, she brought it several times to GL with horrid storylines (Olivia in love with Jeffrey her rapist ugh) just because she can't "bring it" to Days, when Day's wont write a decent storyline does not mean she's just "not that good"

Silver44, I saw the intervention scenes and while I do still think CC's reel was better, I totally agree with you about Maura's win. It's not like CC lost to a hack. Maura's a high caliber actress too and lets face it acting is a subjective medium. So I don't think CC's loss lessens what a brilliant year she had in 2009. And while she doesn't have the award, she can have the satisfaction of having the storyline and scene (I'm going to go so far as to say of the decade) that will be remembered long after the Emmys of this year fade from everybody's memory. I'm willing to bet she wouldn't trade places with West.

So happy she won!
Hell yeah!

And it was TOO DAMN CUTE when Maura had her daughter up there.

Carjack forever!

Just too fucking delicious that Michael Park won and then she was up there too a minute later.

Congrats to Maura as well but CC sooooooo deserved it more. I watched all the reels and CC's was the most moving. This was her year to grab it but unfortunately it didn't happen and I agree with many when I say she will never get one with DOOL because they waste her talent over there. Her only lines for the past 2 months have been" Chloe...you need to tell him the truth! He'll forgive you! He loves you!" It really is a shame.

Maura has been the primary reason I've tuned into the show during the past 15 years. She has consistently sold even the worst material -- and we know it's been bad. As far as people saying CC was robbed and that she's never get an award on DAYS. My response (and I do like CC a great deal): 1) her character, which was hetero the entire time, suddenly becomes a lesbian and that is worthy -- not buying it; 2) CC has made the decision that she wants the paycheck that DAYS can offer rather than any type of critical acclaim/awards -- that paycheck probably enables her to fulfill what she really wants to do -- Venice. I actually hope ATWT does not submit for the last month like GL -- unless it's for people other than the ones who won or received nominations. Last night was a perfect, but bittersweet ending.

Wait a minute? Olivia played more than just a hetero turning gay. The storyline was much much more detailed than that.

Well my personal pick, among the nominees, was Michelle Stafford. That said, Maura West was a more than welcome close second; I've followed her since she debuted on ATWT, and the fact is the woman is award caliber just about every year so the fact that she's only got two after fifteen years on that show frankly is a little mystifying. Still, if I were actually picking THE BEST actress of the last year, I'd have to go with someone who inexplicably wasn't even nominated--OLTL's Florencia Lozano, who's lit that show's canvas afire for the last year and then some.
