Is it in Poor Taste for General Hospital to Re-Air Sonny Shooting a Cop on Memorial Day?
Memorial Day is the national holiday where we as Americans honor those men and women who have died while protecting our freedom and way of life in military service, but many communities also use it to honor police officers and firemen who have died in the line of service. Each year, on holidays such as Memorial Day, soaps air reruns of popular episodes because fewer viewers are at home to watch.
This year General Hospital has chosen to air the dramatic episode where Port Charles’ resident mobster Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) shoots an unarmed cop and his unknown son Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) at point blank range. It is one of GH’s most powerful episodes of the past year and played a pivotal part in the storyline we are now watching play out, but is it in bad taste to be air such an episode on a holiday honoring those who protect us?
