All My Children and One Life to Live creator Agnes Nixon will be honored this year at the Daytime Emmy Awards with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) today announced that Agnes Nixon, the grand dame of Daytime serial drama, will receive the 37th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy® Awards Lifetime Achievement Award.
A grand dame she surely is. Ms. Nixon created two daytime dramas that will always be a memory of my lifetime. It’s a much deserved and long overdue honor.

Well deserved!! This is the TRUE Queen of Daytime, no offense to Susan Lucci. If it weren't for Agnes Nixon, there would be no Erica Kane, and Susan Lucci probably wouldn't have had such a long and successful career in daytime television. Susan Lucci should be the one to present her with this award, as well as Erika Slezak (since she created both of their characters)
This woman broke barriers and told TRULY groundbreaking "outside of the box" stories that didn't include dopplegangers, witches, flying monkeys, talking dolls and women being possessed by the devil (unless you can recall Erica Kane's early days on the show, LOL!) If you want to talk about pushing the envelope---while still making sure that your shows are REALISTIC and SOCIALLY RELEVANT, Agnes Nixon has always been a genius at that.
She needs to hold a writing workshop for Maria Bell and Hogan Sheffer, and they should be forced to take notes. Hell, make Dena Higley, Jean Passanante and David Kreizman come along also. None of these writers have perfected the art of telling INTERESTING stories that are built from character, as opposed to ridiculous plot devices.
I really wish she would come out of retirement and write AMC herself. I don't think that David Kreizman and Donna Swajeski are gonna do the show justice.
Congrats, Agnes!!!! True daytime legend!!!

This should have happen a looooooong time ago. Agnes is the true Queen of Daytime, a legend, one of the best writer daytime has ever had. This woman knew, and still does, how to write honest, human storylines. Oh how I wish she would slap all the current daytime writers upside the head and give a special writing class.
Congrats to her!

I hope she gets up there and apologizes at what ABSOLUTE CRAP her show has turned into
Honestly. If I come across AMC for whatever reason, I get....ANGRY??
P.S. I don't blame Agnes for the Current Crap. Kudos to her!

It's about damn time!
Agnes has been on the soap scene since the 1950s so I am glad the Academy is finally recognizing her.
I just hope she is allowed on stage and none of this wave from the audience crap.
Love you Agnes!

Love the photo of her with this posting. Seems like a cool lady.
I wonder what kind of financial position someone of Ms Nixon's standing in the Daytime has. She is akin to the daytime equivalent of Aaron Spelling but I am certain that she unlikley to be nearly as wealthy as he, is she? And surely she avoided the pitfalls of the creators of Superman and other fictional characters where they did not receive as copius benefits from the popularity of their creators as one might think.

Congrats, Agnes ... and well deserved! If only we could channel you, Bill Bell, Irna Phillips & Doug Marland through the minds of the current soap writers! They just don't have any idea what the viewers want!

At least something good will come of this year's Daytime Emmy's! Agnes Nixon is an excellent writer who started AMC as an oppurtunity to point out real issues to people at home in America and despite the changes her show may have taken over the years she surley deserves some credit.

Congratulations to Ms Nixon! Jeez I never realized they hadn't done this already WHUT?
There are exactly four names that are synonymous with the history daytime tv. Irna Phillips, Bill Bell, Agnes Nixon and Roy Windsor. There are a great number of other names but these are the top four. Most of the successful soaps came from them and Phillips and WIndsor were the earliest pioneers on daytime tv. Bell and Nixon were the protogues of Phillips and went on to change the face of daytime in the 60s and 70s. After ATWT is off Bell will have two shows on tv and NIxon has two on tv. that means between the two people four of 6 surviving shows are their creations.

Agnes Nixon got a Trustees Award in 1981 from the TV Academy, for her contributions to daytime TV, but I don't think that's the same thing as a Lifetime Achievement Award!!! I agree, the Writers Guild of America should give her a Lifetime Achievement Award also!!! I can't think of another living TV writer with her tenure or longevity---in this country, or any other!!!!
