BREAKING NEWS: CBS to Air Daytime Emmys!

Color me confused, yet  cautiously optimistic CBS, the channel that  cancelled two sudsers in one year, has decided to air the 37th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards! Check out the press release below:

THE 37TH ANNUAL DAYTIME EMMY® AWARDS will be broadcast Sunday, June 27 (9:00-11:00 Live, PM, ET/delayed PT) from the Las Vegas Hilton in Las Vegas on the CBS Television Network. This is the first time the awards ceremony will take place in Las Vegas.

"The Daytime Emmy Awards are one of the cornerstones of our business and we are thrilled to be back on CBS," said Herb Granath, Chairman, National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS). "Last year's show was one of the most entertaining events in our history, and this year's Las Vegas-based broadcast promises to be even more exciting."

Associated Television International (ATI) will produce the show with ATI President and Emmy Award winner David McKenzie serving as executive producer. "After last year's Daytime Emmy Awards, we are delighted to be working with NATAS again," said McKenzie. "Being on the top-rated network gives us the opportunity to reach a wide audience and moving the show to Las Vegas allows us a dazzling range of production choices."

"Daytime series have a loyal and passionate following," said Jack Sussman, Executive Vice President, Specials, Music and Live Events, CBS Entertainment. "We're excited to honor these series and their viewers in primetime with this annual showcase."

Details regarding tickets will be available shortly.

Nominations will be announced on May 12.

The Daytime Emmy Awards recognize outstanding achievement in all fields of daytime television production and will be presented to individuals and programs broadcast from 2:00 AM-6:00 PM during the 2009 calendar year.

THE 37TH ANNUAL DAYTIME EMMY AWARDS is a presentation of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in cooperation with the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

All balloting for THE 37TH ANNUAL DAYTIME EMMY AWARDS will be compiled by the independent accounting firm of Lutz and Carr, LLP. American Airlines is the official airline of the Daytime Emmy Awards.

I am with you Silver, though I am not a CBS soap viewer, I hope that's the case, now let's see who they get to host. Any suggestions?

Let's produce a show we can all be proud of, ok? No mockery/junk/2 minute ATWT tribute.

It's all I want for Christmas.

WHAAA???

I'm happy it's back on network TV, the CW one sucked, it was demeaning almost to the industry.

I hope the fans are gonna be in the crowd, I never thought I'd say this but I missed the hooting and hollering from the fans.

Last time I herd there wasn't going to be a tribute, a further insult for ATWT, for being on CBS. I could have cared less were it went, they never gave any respect for ATWT or GL when they were on.

NO WORDS?! Of course I am happy, b/c I love these awards and it is a slight boost of confidence for the genre. I will say this, these nominations better be good! I used to say even though the mix bag of WTF noms for the last two yrs. range from garbage to decent, the industry needs to get over itself and honor deserving ppl from these prenoms, b/c yeah the ceremony is nice to watch, but it would not be worth all the trouble to get them televised on a network when nobody is interested in the race.

If CBS wants ratings, I would go with a Victoria Rowell and Eric Braedon pairing for the hosts!

Like Jamie, I too am left scratching my head and very confused.  For a network that (as Jamie pointed out) cancelled two of it's long running dramas in one year's time, why would they even bother hosting the Emmy's?  Is the network trying to save face after all of the extreme harsh criticism it recieved after it cancelled both GL and ATWT?  If that's the case, they're just being desperate and trying to appease those extremely unhappy and very angry GL and ATWT fans, myself included.  I have NOT watched "Lets Make A Dud" since it took over GL's spot and whatever the network puts in ATWT's spot, I most certainly will not watch that either.

Again, I'm left scratching my head.  And I agree, the CW network butchered last year's show.  It was pretty much an amateur type HS production (that's how bad it was)!

I just got to thinking, and came up with this thought-- maybe CBS is going to use this opportunity to promote their proposed new daytime talk fest helmed by the network boss' wife Julie Chen.  It cannot be because they are suddenly feeling guilty for cancelling two landmark soaps, for we know what Les Moonves' opinion is of the soap genre.

Les Moonves and the rest of CBS Daytime is trying IN VAIN to convince the public that they really care about daytime television and soaps!! After Moonves declared that ATWT and GL were not "special soaps," he instantly claimed a spot on my "sh*t list" and he will probably never get off of it. For them to now offer to host the Daytime Emmys is nothing but pure HYPOCRISY.

It's just like Maria Bell and her team are doing.....going around trying to convince people of crap that simply isn't true, and I can see through the BS!!! They are mainly trying to promote "Let's Make a Deal," "The Price is Right"  and that TIRED new talk show featuring Moonves' BORING wife, Julie Chen, than anything else!!!

I will be watching to HOPEFULLY watch my favorite actors get the recognition that they deserve, but I ain't no fool!! I ain't drinking any more of Moonve's Kool-Aid!!!!

Great point!

The more I think about Les and the proposed new talk show the more pissed off I get.

I just hope that the show goes back to being a classic emmy -- with tributes instead of being fancy music and dance numbers. And ATWT will be get one hell of a tribute desipte the fact that the emmys said that they aren't giving them one this year. They better add it. No excuses. Its the least CBS could do. They can still do a tribute for AMC as well.

And why on God's beloved green Earth would CBS give that kind of "tribute" to AMC, especially on their own network?  If AMC wants a tribute, they're going to have to wait until ABC's turn again.

Well CBS is just airing the emmys, they have nothing to do with the actual show. But it was released months ago that the emmys wanted to a 40th anniversary tribute for AMC and were NOT doing a farewell tribute for ATWT this year. But I am hoping that they give AMC their little 40th tribute but give ATWT the farewell tributes of all farewell tributes. ATWT was the original breakout soap and they need to be honored. I want @ least a 5-7 minute tribute for the show. Better than what they did Guiding Light last year.

That isn't true, CBS will definitely have something to do with the show, now that it's on their network. They will aggressively promote their daytime lineup, which is smart business, so would I, but at least the soaps wil be celebrated on air for at least one more year. ATI busted their asses to even get the show televised again, so I am gonna support their efforts.

This is soo sad it seems the daytime drama (soap) category is coming to a demise slowly but surely each year! First it was the death of music I guess TV is next!
