America Ferrera Teams With P&G to Create Bilingual, Interactive MTV Telenovela

Ugly Betty may be finishing it's four-year run, but America Ferrera isn't out of the telenovela business just yet. According to Access Hollywood and The Hollywood Reporter, Ferrera has partnered with MTV, Ben Silverman's Electus shingle and Procter and Gamble Productions to develop a bilingual, interactive soap opera titled Pedro & Maria.

Ferrera will serve as one of the project's executive producers, along with Jarred Weisfeld and Ian Kleinert of Objective Entertainment. Quiara Alegria Hudes, who penned the Broadway smash In The Heights, will write the script and also serve as one of the show runners.

"The Latino population is an under-represented and under-served segment of the audience, and I am excited to help bring this relevant show to MTV," said David Janollari, executive vp, scripted development at MTV.

P&G is set to "lend creative support" to the project, according to THR, as well as create original commercials and branded entertainment projects for its health and beauty brands in conjunction with the project.

They should've NEVER cancelled "Ugly Betty"!! A well-written, well-acted show with interesting characters that was consistently entertaining, and I am willing to bet money that they will replace it with more reality television CRAP that has basically ruined the entire landscape of network television. I give up.......reality television and game shows are DOOMED to take over TV!!! The revolution will DEFINITELY be televised, but I will definitely NOT be watching it!!!!

Interesting bedfellows.  P&G the group responsible for the Luke and Noah 'kissing ban' on ATWT.  MTV who were once upon a time one of the most progressive networks out there, anyone remember Undressed?

Interesting. Too bad the executives don't care enough to think outside the box to promote their soaps and adapt to the modern world w/stories. Again we can all complain but it is moot at this pt.

I wonder if she's going to learn Spanish so she can guest star.

It was time for UB to go. I had to take that show off my DVR during season 3. Hilda was pissing me off.  Betty was really pissing me off and I could never get over her dissing Gio.

Is this Telenext or regular P&G?

Telenext is P&G's TV production arm, they are a division of P&G, so one in the same whenever discussions of TV come up.
