BREAKING NEWS: Days of our Lives Renewed!
By Luke Kerr on March 19, 2010

Great news soap fans! NBC has renewed Days of our Lives through 2011, according to The Live Feed.
“‘Days of our Lives’ continues to be a favorite of the daytime audience and we are thrilled to keep it going through its 45th season,” said Marc Graboff, chairman, NBC Entertainment. “‘Days’ has shown year-to-year increases in key female demographics and remains both relevant and fresh creatively.”

Good to know as I just said going to start watching Days when ATWT is over. I know that ATWT doesn't have chance of being picked up now, just every time I see braking news get excited. I just watched today for the first time in years because of the NCAA crap started at 11:30. Crystal Chapel is their like that.

I'll take the year. The times of getting 3-5 year extensions for soaps is pretty far-fetched. Let's hope the good storytelling lately at Days continues.

I'm so so so so happy that DAYS got picked up but I'm worried about that year contract what happens after that year is up. I remember when DAYS got like 4-5 year pick-ups and this makes me a little worried but I'am extremely happy that it'll be around.

Good news! I'm so glad Corday decided to go find a book deal and keep his hands off that freakin' show.
Say what you will about the firings a year ago, DooL got on the stick and saved itself, which is more than can said about other soaps. So good for them.
I think about this year's primetime debacle, Days looks that much better to NBC right now, because it is one of their very few success stories right now -- but I think a year's renewal is about all any soap is going to get nowadays.

For the sake of Soaps in general, I can be happy about this. Days getting cancelled doesn't help anyone, so congrats to the cast and crew!
Last year's firings are reason enough for me to never watch again, but I'm glad that other people have found an interest in the new and "improved" version.
I agree with Scout that Corday's "decision" to take a step back has obviously had a positive impact overall.

Yes, Congrats cast and crew. Yeah, but one thing, give Renee Jones and James Reynolds a s/l already.

When is Y&R up for renewal? I haven't watched it in years, was going to start watching it when ATWT goes. What the bloodily hell is going on; they got a lot of nut jobs. Adam, The wonder twins and Patty. It is quite bizarre. Shopping around for other soaps. May go to days.

Woohoo! :) A victory for one soap is a victory for all of the soaps. We all love this industry and want to see it survive as long as possible.
Although GH is my main soap, I occasionally watch Y&R, DAYS and OLTL (although not for much longer, ha). It's nice to see a soap not only listening to what their fans want by bringing back old favorites, but also doing what it takes to survive!!

That's because Days is the best soap on right now! I love it these days, especially having Carly, Vivian, Anna and Victor back and all the stories are interesting. I didn't think i'd be able to say that about Days again!!!

I cant help but think that if ATWT, and the beloved GL, which is now resting in peace (sniffle, sniffle!) were on NBC, these shows could have avoided cancellation. The brass at NBC, despite what they did to "Another World", seem to be SLIGHTLY more forgiving and understanding than Les Moonves and his bobbleheads at CBS are!!! I guess I will never know!! It is a shame that NBC couldn't accomodate these two shows!! That would help even the playing field!! NBC only has one soap, and the other networks have three!!!
I don't watch DAYS, but I guess another soap that avoids the Grim Reaper is a good thing!!!

I don't watch DAYS, but I'm happy for those of you who do, and I'm also happy for the industry as a whole. There hasn't been a whole lot of good news lately, so while I won't presume to jump onto your DAYS bandwagon, I will run alongside for a while, cheering!

I'm so glad Days got the renewal. I have been enjoying the show as a whole this past year more than I have in some time.
They managed to mix the cast and have the generations intermingle stories. I'm expecially loving all of the veternal cast members. From Victor, Vivian, Carly, Bo, Hope, Maggie, Stephano and Kate. Ali and Ari did such good work last summer with the death of Grace, and in Nov the Sami v. Nicole smackdown.
Some good news for a change, lord know NBC needs it.

Congrats to Ken Corday and the Days family! I consider myself one of those family members. Have been watching Days since 1971 (except for a few years in the 90s).
I want to especially thank Ken Corday for keeping his family legacy afloat through some very tough years. I don't think he gets very much credit for what he has done and want to be one that says that it is much appreciated! The show has not been better in many years and continues to grow all the time!
Wish list for the next year..... bring back Doug and Julie full time!
Give Nicole a big new story
Teach the young'uns how to act lol....

Great news for the industry as a whole I think. I really do believe that soaps will survive in some fashion. Days really stepped up in the last year. I love that they brought back favorites like Vivian, Justin and Carly. I am looking forward to the many guests from the past coming soon too. Days is doing things right. And there seems to be very little drama going on in the background. They seem like a very close and tight cast.
Congrats!!!

Interesting timing on the announcement as well. News of the ATWT cancellation are still fresh on viewers minds and the current bad press/rumors for OLTL are out there. OLTL and ATWT are in the same time slot as Days in my tv market. Maybe this is a shot to try and lure some of those viewers over to Days. Smart of NBC if that is the case.
