Ay Dios mio! Could it be, General Hospital's charasmatic-dimpled mobster finally head to jail? Maurice Benard fills TV Guide Magazine in on what's going to happen with his alter ego in the aftermath of shooing his cop-son Dante (Dominic Zampronga)
So he’ll go to prison? I think that’s how they’re writing it so I’m playing it to the hilt. I truly believe Sonny’s done this time. He wants his son to be safe and he sees no other way out. And Sonny wants Dante to feel like he’s the one responsible for sending him to prison. He doesn’t think he can get away with it this time—at least that’s the way I’m playing it in the scenes we’re shooting now.This thing will go to trial?
Yeah. And I’m going to play it from here to whenever that this is the last time Sonny will see his kids, the last time he’ll see anyone he cares about. I’m not going to be all mushy-mushy about it. [Laughs] That’s not me. I’ll be a tough son of a bitch but, yeah, this could be it for him. I certainly want the audience to think that.

As long as Guza is the head writer and keeps screwing the show, Sonny will always be in the mob, and will be in the forefront of stories that they come up with.

I would LOVE to see my Sonny going to jail for a month. Having to protect himself from getting shanked by Anthony's goons, getting thrown in solitary and having a meltdown. Could be good stuff.

Hell by time I figured out my password I forgot what I was going to say.
I think it was that I think they should let Sonny sit some time out in prison. Erica Kane did some time and her crimes were not even close to what Sonny has done or will do. So by gosh Sonny can. Unless they have him go all crazy because he is claustrophobic like when Alexis had to hold his hand that one time which lead to their "affair".
He can sit and visit with papa "Z" or line up some new enforcers for his " mob family"

I think Sonny will go to jail for about 5 minutes until a prison riot breaks out and he rescues the Governor's daughter, who was working as a volunteer librarian at the time, compelling the governor to pardon him. GH has been ripping off the Sopranos all these years, it may as well rip off OLTL.
OR, he goes to jail and becomes Anthony Zacchara's bitch, creating a whole new super couple for GH, and BONUS! one affair Sonny won't have kids from!

Sonny needs to go to prison already. Karma's here and she says that now he should do hard time. He can take one for the team and protect Michael by moving into the big house. It's about time anyway for a changing of the guards at GH. Let's see Dante be the lead guy/hero with a a heart.
Do I think it will happen? He!! to the no~not as long Guza's at the helm, and that's sad sad SAD.

Hi All...of course this won't be the end of Sonny. He gets away with everything. Was does GH still revolve their show around him? Their ratings are at their lowest levels ever. Do they ever wonder why? They act as if Sonny is the most popular character in all of daytime. If so, why aren't people watching? Throw Sonny in jail and make the mob secondary. Then they need to refocus on the hospital, romance, intrigue, and social consciousness (Nurses Ball!!!). These are the things that GH did so well during the glory years. Even for Sonny, what made him so popular in the first place? The stories in the early days with him Brenda, Jax, and Lily (remember Clink-Boom?), his involvement with Stone and Robin's story, taking Jason under his wing, etc all made him a likable, conflicted anti-hero. Now, he's just an old mobster with 27 kids who goes from one meaningless relationship to another and really has no rooting value. Who cares if he defeats yet another "major" crime boss that comes to town? Who cares if he fathers yet another child with some victimized woman? He's a character past his prime and GH should refocus while they still have enough fans who haven't given up watching the same Sonny patterns repeat over and over again.

Please, Sonny ain't going to nobodies prison. It would be nice, though. I bet if Sonny sat in jail for at least a 13 week story arc, that appease a lot of fans and make the character more sympathetic again. Hell, even Jason sat his ass in prison for a while when they thought he killed Lorenzo...

Marezi, not only has Erica Kane spent time in prison but so has Palmer Cortlandt, Adam Chandler, Dorian Lord, Victor Newman, etc. Will it kill Guza and Frons to have him in prison for at least a few months? I mean aside from shooting his son, his son happens to be a cop. For God’s sakes.

If Sonny goes to jail for a few months Guza and company could pen a prison storyline between Anthony Zacchara. Meanwhile Jason and co. could be only the outside fighting to hold the organization together. During the course of this Michael could be racked with guilt over his father going to prison and his anger towards Dante. Personally, I think Maurice Bernard is willing to allow Sonny to be taken down, he does not appear to have EB's ego. Bernard seems to want to break new ground. Bottom line, Sonny needs to go to jail/prison this time (at least for a while).

Can someone explain to me why Jax has yet to call Dante and give him the heads up that his cover is blown and that little monster Michael knows he is a cop? MAJOR PLOT point missing here folks...they needed to explain it somewhere. Jax talking to himself wrappling over the idea...something.

FaisonFaninTexas, This is what I said the first time I saw this guy get in Sonny's face and wonder why is he sparing this guy when he's killed for less reasons? It's like you have his life Jax, what more could you really want buddy!!!!!!! On top of that, Sonny might be a mob boss but he's not an insane psychopath that Jax big brother Jerry is!

Lol! Sonny may not end up in prison, but it certainly may look that way for a while. That is until, Diane, his brillant lawyer, gets him out of hot water! I think that they should have him go to prison, even it's just for a short period of time, because it would make for some soapy goodness. Sonny having to live with what he has done while he is suffering in prison, Dante feeling torn between his job and his family, Olivia feeling guilty for not telling the truth, Sonny's kids maybe finally realizing the ugly about him, and everyone around these people dealing with it as well. Lulu, Jason, Johnny, Carly, Alexis...and so on. And who would take Sonny's place while he is gone?
I, for one, can't wait to see what happens!

Much like the short stints spent in jail by other Soap characters (Dorian Lord etc), there would be some great dramatic potential if the did send Sonny to the big house. It wouldn't mean the end of the character by any means...

I agree with those of you who said a short stint would help revive the character and appease some of the fans. To those of you that keep saying why is MB the lead, I urge you, if you have fb to check out the general hospital fan page. TONS of Sonny/MB love. I think these are the types that watch but dont necessarily visit message boards.
