As sad as this is the fact is the man lived a very long and seemingly prosperous life. My condolences to his family.

AMC has lost another legendary actor. I hope all the backstage upheaval at AMC won't prevent them from giving Palmer a proper sendoff, complete with clips and his relatives there to celebrate his life. RIP Mr. Mitchell.

Now that Loraine is back maybe they will give Palmer a decent memorial episode.

A true Patriarch to AMC, Palmer is so going to be missed. I hope AMC gives him a proper tribute, as they did did Myrtle and Ruth. Hopefully Lorraine Broderick is still at the helm of the shows writing team to scribe it.
R.I.P James Mitchell

RIP James Mitchell. You are the one who hooked me on AMC in my college days--and you were my favorite character on the show.
Dropping off a tribute video. The Dream Ballet from Oklahoma. I know you are dancing with the angels James

One of the best actors to ever grace the genre.

What a brilliant actor he was! I was so hooked on Palmer's storyline when I first watched in 1980.... first his animosity with Daisy/Monique and then later the passion. What rapport those two had .... and don't forget that wonderful wonderful rapport and bickering with Myra! Those were they days when real actors graced our screens and not just pretty vapid models. And shame on AMC and whoever made the decision to turn down Taylor Miller's repeated requests to share some final Palmer/Nina scenes with James Mitchell in his last year on the show, telling her there was no place for this on the show any longer!
I hope Lorraine Broderick pens an entire episode devoted to this legendary character and that we get to see substantial flashback scenes...... I hate how soaps rush the tribute episodes these days.... it's such a rush job ... in one episode they announce they death and then the very next episode is the funeral. They skip so many beats. The beauty of how soaps were before was seeing reactions of characters..... they need to spend time showing people hearing about the news and reacting to it.... Nina being told; Daisy being told; Opal being told; Erica being told.....and reacting to the news. Then another episode can be a total tribute with tons of flashbacks of classic Palmer moments.
I'd love if SoapNet would do a Palmer marathon including an episode I never saw... the one of the masquerade ball of 1980 where Palmer has his dobermans and he's yelling at Daisy to come out of hiding (before she later takes up residence as Monique Jonvil befriending Nina). Frons I'm sure has no interest in this since he's too busy pimping 90210 marathons and "Being Erica"

James Mitchell will be missed terribly...........I'm so GLAD we got to see him one last time on the 40th anniversary show! Palmer was one of my all-time favorite characters on AMC........I especially loved him with Daisy and with Opal.
The "dream Curly" scene in Oklahoma is so fantastic...........I just watched it (again) very recently. He was a very talented, and very loved man.

We will miss you Palmer. I'm so glad we got to see him for the 40th anniversary show.
Even today, thinking of him "sparring" with Daisy, her mother (Daisy's), and Adam bring a smile to my face.

For as long as I’ve been watching AMC, this loss hurts as much as the loss of Eileen Herlie and Ruth Warrick. Palmer Cortlandt was one of the original rich controlling scheming bad asses, and James Mitchell played him magnificently. And, take note Eric Braeden lovers, Palmer didn’t win them all but nevertheless, he would dust himself off and come back even stronger. No one could ho-check Adam the way Palmer could and that smile. Oh that venomous smile. You just knew you were jacked when you got one of those smiles.
No one loved Opal more and no one made chasing after someone with two big vicious man-eating dogs more terrifying. I would have love to see more scenes between him, Jill Larson, and Daniel Kennedy and I would have love to see Lorraine Broderick write Palmer just one scene where he would screw with Adam for old times sake and put Dr. David in his place, but alas.
Rest well James Mitchell and I thank you for all the television viewing joy you personally brought to me. BRAVO!

I remember when Palmer had taken Adam for all he was worth. Adam begged Palmer on his knees not to evict Stuart from the property, and Palmer consented. Wonderful scenes. I loved the Chandler-Cortlandt rivalry. Too bad TPTB doesn't see the value in these legendary characters. Memo to Frons: at the time of the aforementioned storyline, I was a kid. Yes, a kid whose main interest was in a couple of silver-haired foxes, not fellow kids.
I'll miss Mr. Mitchell and his signature character. But, as someone said upthread, he lived a long and fruitful life, so that takes some of the sting out of the loss.

...I was hoping that he'd get to make some more appearances since AMC was in his town now.

James Mitchell what a enduring legacy he leaves behind in the character of Palmer Courtlandt.
One look at him and I am always taken back to being a little kid seated next to my mother watching him chase his most hated and beloved Daisy with those hungry attack dogs.Staring wide eyed asking my mother what he would do if he caught her and her telling me that we wouldn't know until tomorrow. That was all it took I was there the next day.....and pretty much the next 30yrs.
R.I.P. Mr. James Mitchell and thank you for your wonderful work.

With Mitchell's passing, an era has truly come to an end for AMC. He was the last of the older characters that kept AMC alive for so many years. I sure hope they address his passing on AMC. I don't think there's really any way they can avoid it. He deserves the same respect that was paid to Fran Heflin, Ruth Warrick and Eilen Herlie. There are so many great memories of him, it would surely make for a terrific clip show.
My sympathies go to everyone who loved him, especially his partner, Albert Wolsky. His absence on this earth leaves a big void .

You might find that clip by finding the 20th anniv show ... if I get a chance I'll try to find on youtube and post here. That 20th anniv show was the BEST. I know they did a Cortlandt segment on that show.
