The Mustache Who Came Back: Braeden Talks Y&R Return

The face that launched thousands of Soap Opera Digest covers is back with a vengance! Eric Braeden discusses his alter ego's return to The Young and The Restless with TV Guide Magazine.
When you were written off the show, Victor was unfairly blamed for almost every crime and calamity in Genoa City. Is he back with a hit list?
Oh, yes, and he’s salivating for revenge. Nothing explosive. He’s angry and bitter but he’s going to play it very cool, very Machiavellian. It all unfolds in a very delicious manner and I’m enjoying it enormously. [Laughs] I like to get even.
Braeden also enlightend readers as to who intervened during his contract dispute, and what showrunners Maria Arena Bell and Paul Rauch were doing while the highly-publicized drama played out.
Where was Bell, and for that matter [Y&R co-executive producer] Paul Rauch, when you were going through your contract fight? They said nothing publicly, which seemed rather cowardly. It made it look like you were hanging in the wind, with no support from any of your producers.I’m sure that was done in order not to sway the negotiations one way or the other. The ball was obviously in [Y&R owner] Sony’s court. Had it not been for that personal touch—the connection with Maria Bell—I don’t think I would have been back.
Did she actively step in at some point to make something happen?
I’m sure she tried all the time. Yeah. But who essentially stepped in was [CBS president] Les Moonves, who has always been a friend and supporter. I don’t know how it eventually was solved, but in the end this sort of thing becomes a pissing contest, and there’s a point where you say, “What for?”

As much as I like Braeden, I'm not looking forward to the return of TGVN with everyone pretending that Victor doesn't deserve jail time. The Abbott's should have sued him for wrongful death.

I have nothing against EB but I do not like VN and I like the show without him! As we all can see the world hasn't stop turning without him in GC!

The show has been horrible for awhile now! I'm excited to see Victor back. Maybe he will knock Adam back to IOWA!

Even the almighty VN crimes come to light, when the Hell will Adam's?
I tuned back into Y&R to see DM as NuMalcolm, which Im enjoying BTW, but other than that Im done w/ this show. I threw in the towel when TPTB had Ashley walking around for MONTHS w/ a dead fetus inside her. As a viewer I was pissed, as a woman I was insulted. I know you have to suspend belief when watching soaps BUT there is suspending beleif & being treated like an idiot. This was one of those times for this former viewer.

Questions:
What has Victor been unfairly blamed for?
Didn't the last time he tried to get revenge on someone a child got brain damage and another one died?!
And Les Moonves to the rescue?! Really?!

Jangiefan,
To be fair to Y&R, Ashley miscarried the fetus and Adam burned its remains along with Ashley's gown in the fireplace. It was gross...

Season1217,
Victor has escaped punishment for his involvement in bringing Patty to town and her subsequent crimes. Simple law would have Victor behind bars as a conspirator to Patty's crimes.
Victor wanted Jack dead and arranged for Patty to come to Genoa City. When it became apparent that Patty was deranged, Victor did nothing to really stop her or to protect others.
When Billy wrote his expose of Victor, most of the town, even those horribly affected by Victor's actions, damned him. Nick and Phyllis should have wanted Victor's blood for causing brain damage to their daughter.
Seriously, if Phyllis is willing to put Deacon in jail for hurting Daniel, why isn't she plotting Victor's downfall?

Josstheguy, I think Season1217 might have been referring the "unfairly" part of that statement. That's certainly the part that made my eyes roll. He wasn't unfairly accused of anything. If he hadn't brought Patty back to Genoa City, a lot of heartache, physical suffering, and even death could have been avoided.

I know this was said before, but what in the name of all that's holy was Victor "unfairly blamed" for? Were they watching the same show we were?

I think the actor has been kinda of a douche in the press but i'll admit to missing seeing Victor.

How many ''exclusive'' interviews of EB coming back to Y&R will we have to suffer through?
