"I'm truly over the moon about the nominations. Our amazing cast and crew went above and beyond to make Buppies happen and it means so much to have that recognized," says Buppies creator Julian Breece. "It's also truly humbling to be nominated alongside so many other artists who decided to skip the Hollywood grids and create work that speaks to a diversity of people. I think we're all grateful that organizations like We Love Soaps continue to honor and encourage the independent spirit."
The Internet's best scripted laffer, Imaginary Bitches, was also recognized in a special comedy category. Andrew Miller's bar-setting series, which stars Miller's wife Eden Riegel, will compete against Lauralee Bell's Family Dinner; Wed-Locked from Lawrence Saint-Victor and Karla Mosley; Then We Got Help!, costarring One Life to Live's Nick Rodriguez; Fantasy Over Reality and WORKSHOP, from Nate Golon and Kimberly Legg, which costars Passions' alum Phillip Jeanmarie.
We Love Soaps editor Roger Newcomb says he created the Indie Soap Awards to honor the creators who are striving to keep the genre we all love alive online.
"Dozens of new independently produced web soaps burst onto the scene in 2009 and more are on the way in 2010. I wanted to honor the creative forces behind these shows who love the continuing story format and want to keep it alive," says Newcomb. "I also wanted to help improve awareness of these shows and help potential viewers understand just how many are out there and how much good work is happening on the web."
Newcomb says he's already heard from many of the web soap producers he's honoring with nominations.
"The response has been overwhelming already," begins Newcomb. "It makes me feel so good about the future of soaps when I see this type of enthusiam from the producers and writers behind these shows."
In addition to the nominees officially selected, fans can vote until Jan. 31 for the favorite web soaps like Venice or Gotham in a special Fans' Choice category. Winners of the 1st Annual Indie Soap Awards will be announced Feb. 1. For a complete list of the nominees, click here.
