OMFG: The Infamous "SPIT TAKE" Between Y&R's Michelle Stafford and Victoria Rowell!!
By Jamey Giddens on December 17, 2009

Oh my damn, oh my damn! Remember our 300th episode of Daytime Confidential's podcast, where former The Young and the Restless star Victoria Rowell (ex-Drucilla) informed us that Michelle Stafford (Phyllis) had improvised a "spit take", drenching her scene partner? Well, we received a tip, that Kenny over at Daytime Royalty found it, and the DR board posters weren't sure if it was the scene or not. Yep, I can confirm it is the infamous clip! Now I searched for this clip high and low following our blockbuster interview with Rowell, with no luck. Mad props to Kenny for digging it up! Y'all better look fast though, 'cause five will get you ten, Sony will yank this puppy soon! Now more than ever I cannot wait to read Rowell's upcoming novel Secrets of a Soap Opera Diva when it drops in March! Have y'all pre-ordered your copy yet? Clip courtesy of TheYRFanO9. See You Tube video after the jump.

I missed this when it happened, and I don't like MS's choice to do this, but VR played it off well and kept her dignity. Onscreen anyway. I would've decked MS if she did that to me not knowing about it beforehand.

Ohhhhh, Ms Rowell didn't play THAT off at all. That look was pure "Bitch, I will FUCK you up!"

Victoria Rowell IS a liar. In that interview she said that Stafford SPIT on her. I took this to mean that Stafford hocked up some Phlegm and SPIT on her (ala Jack and Rose in *Titanic.*) But now we see that it was a spit TAKE. That's a completely different thing. So what if MS didn't run it by the diva first to "make sure it was okay." The whole POINT of a spit take is the element of surprise. It's not as if Rowell said, "Stafford performed a spitake on me without giving me a heads up first." She had to turn it into something it WASN'T and say "Stafford SPIT on me." TYPICAL Victoria Rowell. She loves being a victim.
It looked to be WATER--not Stafford vomit, phlegm, or even SALIVA. Once again Rowell is being what she is, was, and always will be--a DIVA. She's too high maintenance and for that reason Y&R will never invite her back no matter how much she pimps herself to the media that Dru is "coming back." Several cast members don't want her back, either. The way she tells it, it's because of *racism* when what it really is is because of her bad behavior.

Are you telling me that because it was water that makes it ok? I don't care if it was water/saliva/juice if a liquid shoots out of your mouth and hits my face...that's spitting on me!!!

@ Coffee_Junkie so you would be fine if someone spit water at you?
Y&R seriously needs Dru back!!! She's awesome and would fill the void that Y&R is missing.

Ok well first of all...this clip has been on youtube for years. Jamey...you been slippin on your pimpin.
Secondly, one could tell this was staged. MS took obvious steps to spit the water down. If MS was really trying to disrespect VR she would have spit right in her face.
Third of all....for someone who didn't know what was going to happen, VR had the PERFECT almost smile/kind of smirk to end the scene. If it was soo bad, one would think she would fly into an immediate rage.
Once again, I think VR has blown something out of proportion. Was it in bad taste for MS not to tell VR she was going to do it?....Yes of course. But VR made it sound like she hawked up a loogie and spit in her FACE....Actually I think VR said MS did indeed spit in her face. And as the clip proved, MS did no such thing.

Y'all are missing my point. Rowell turned this into something it wasn't. Michelle Stafford did not "spit" on her.
And if I was in Rowell's shoes, in that situation sure I might have been irked. But I would not have done what Rowell surely did which was get hysterical, upset, and well--be a DIVA. To the point that mediators had to come in and the two women were literally SEGREGATED from one another.
If Rowell were a professional and/or had any class, she would have taken the high road in this situation. (ie. "damn girl--you could have given me some WARNING!") and make an attempt to have a laugh about it. I'm sorry--but it was funny. That's what a spit take is. Catching the person off guard. It was WHILE THEY WERE WORKING. Rowell tells it as if Stafford came up to her while they were on a break and spit tobacco juice in her face.
Rowell is just turning into a bitter, haggered old b!tch. It's very obvious she knows now that she blew it (by being a DIVA, telling them she wanted to act and WRITE and they said no). sO SHE QUIT. She knows she'll never have anything things like that again. She's come pathetic and sad pimping herself in the media insisting that "she'll be back."
She won't be if half the cast doesn't want her.

I am not a Y & R fan but this clip make me wish I had been watching when dru was on. I am liking her character already.

I recall seeing this when it first aired. I laughed my ass off, of course I thought it was all staged because it looked staged. Now I would be mad if I had water spit on me, sure. Is VR a diva, hell ya, but I would be mad if it happened to me. I mean, clearly there was no love between those two (and many others).

and yet it was not a problem until after VR left the show with her tail between her legs "they won't let me write!!!!! I am a writer!!!!" GMAFB! It is called acting for a reason VICTORIA!!! and if your itty bitty feelings were hurt so bad and it offended you so much why in the HELL did you remain friends with Michelle Stafford, even inviting her to her "High Tea" later in the year after the so called "spit in my face" incident! It had nothing to do with spitting in her face, which this video proves did not happen, and it had nothing to do with RACE. It only has to do with VR making a mountain out of a spittake!
VR is a publicity whore, plain and simple!

I would've been so friggin' upset if someone did that to me.
With that being said, I'm not a big fan of VR either. They are both talented actresses but I think they need to check their egos at the door

So you mean to tell me that people are actually saying it's okay for someone to spit on you and it's wrong for VR to be upset by this? Give me a break!

Okay, I"m SOOOO glad I finally got to see this. Please Mark me down in the category of "ummmm, looks like that was 'storyline dictated' to me"
I love Dru/Victoria just as much as I love Phyllis/Michelle, but to me, I'm in Stafford's corner....If it wasn't part of the 'written scene', they wouldn't have aired it....right?? Weeeee bit of Diva in the accusations, I think....
......that said- I miss Dru
And wow. Peter Bergman's lost some weight!!

It is done all the time in "acting" going for the shock effect! Must say VR acted the role well!
How exactly in MS's ego involved here?? I have yet to see her running around saying "I spit in Victoria Rowell's FACE!!! I spit in Victoria Rowell's FACE!!! and I enjoyed doing it!!!" it is called acting for a reason. Yes VR demanded the bigwigs MAKE MS apologize which she did, and I am sure MS did not even realize it was an issue until then, but again VR remained friends with MS AFTERWARDS.
VR belongs on the "Housewives" show she fits in real well with the other bitches, I can't wait till they pull out her extensions with both hands!!!

LOL that is FUNNY! I now remember that scene, and VR did lie about scene because MS did spit down and not in her face. If VR was very hard to work with, then why didn't they recasut Dru? What was the actress's name that played on ATWT as Camille? Light skined actress that was involved with Ben then Andy? She could make a good Dru recast?

Wow! The writing here was execellent. I miss that Y&R. I miss Dru. She was delicious in serving up and digesting pain on Phyllis. Dru brought out the best of Phyllis. Now alll we get is dumb Phyllis vs. Sharon crap.
That said:
Hello! There's this thing called editing. We don't know what happened immediately after the spitting took place. We don't know what her real reaction was only the edited and screened version.
We do know that Sony HR was called in after this happened.
Sadly, I don't think that VR will ever return. The show has hired Stephen Nichols and he's probably the only expensive hire the show will make for some time to come.
P.S.
Anyone who calls VR an "old haggard bitch" is blind and biased. VR is hot.

Racist? Are you kidding me? What does this have to do with race. I thought it was quite funny and assumed it was staged -- there's a reason why they had Dru/Phyllis in the bumpers together (just like the other "couples"). Their back n forth was awesome. If MS made a bad choice and offended VR, you work it out. (It's not like they hadn't worked together for a long time.) VR is a drama queen and MS is know for being quirky. Remember these aren't your normal people and they don't work in an office, but on a TV stage in LaLa land.

Ok it was wrong of her to spit the coffe out if she didn't talk it over with her co-star first. I loved how VR handed it in the scene . I think MS was in the moment ,and she did something that she thought would have made the scene believeable. You win some you lose some. Should she had said something first YES but Both of these ladies are wonderful at what they do and we need VR back

I am a Phyllis fan and I can say that the acting choice was not ok. In the air would have been ok, on any acting fellow NOT!
When you make a bad choice you say you are sorry to your co-worker, we do it all the time at work, they should do it too.
NOT that complex.

Are people really serious right now, and think just because the camera showed the spit down that was the case? I is called using the power of editiing.
I am not sure what happened, some ask where MS ego comes in, to think it is ok to do a "spit take" and not clear it- shows ego which really eqals diva.
The whole point is that MS should have cleared it with VR first , it was nt like she added her own words to a scenes-- no she spit on her and di not clear it with her big deal.
Now VR is a diva too, I never watched Y&R like that but remember when this came out I thought she meant she did it in a harsh way as MS not in character. VR spinned it, then I have read that she made MS beg her pardon by orders of TPTB and other stuff.
What I see here is the case of two divas, now I would be mad as hell if someone spit on me and let it be known, because it is not like improvising, it is spit.

Sidenote from all the spit drama: DAMN THIS SHOW WAS GOOD BACK THEN. Sigh... The music, the scenes, SO MUCH sharper, crisp and modern than the show today, and this was years ago.
