Teen Spinoff Web Series Set for EastEnders

There are whole new worlds opening up on the Internet and the British seem to be taking full advantage of them. Variety.com is reporting that EastEnders will spin off an online soap aimed at the teen market. The 13-part show is named EastEnders: E20, referencing the London zip code in which it will be set.

EastEnders will mark its 25th anniversary in February and will use that date to debut E20. It's the show's first foray into the online market. The Webcast will feature four teenage characters who were created by new writers and will be supported by blogs and other marketing materials to be directed at the target group. All episodes are scheduled to be 6-12 minutes long. Although E20 will be a separate entity, there may be tie-ins to the mothership.

EastEnders: E20 is an opportunity to develop the BBC's expertise in drama production by matching new young talent from the TV industry with the best creative new media talent, said Simon Nelson, controller portfolio and multiplatform, BBC Vision. Together they can exploit the creative potential of the Web to create new online drama experiences.

I'd love to check it out. Hopefully, they'll make it available to US viewers (sometimes these things are blocked and people from other countries can't watch Sad )

I love EastEnders. I haven't watched it in awhile and I'm going through withdrawals. Gotta get back into it soon though - there's a great story coming up and I don't want to miss it. I just wish there was an easier way for me to see it - as it is, I have to watch it on a site that's probably not legal, lol

I LOVES me some EE!! Its one of those slice of life shows. No crazy American soap opera drama like All My Children.

Wasn't there suppose to have been an american spin-off years back? I am glad it didn't happen. You can't mess with a show like that.
