One Life to Live's 3Q SOAPnet Audience Largest on Record

One Life to Live had a very good third quarter on SOAPnet.  ABC's best written soap posted double-digit gains over the previous year's ratings, enjoyed the most total viewers of all three soaps and beat All My Children and General Hospital among Women 18-49, making it the largest quarterly audience for the series on record.

  • Garnering double-digit percent gains over year-ago levels, “One Life to Live” (M-F, 9:00 – 10:00 p.m.) registered the series’ largest quarterly audience on record on SOAPnet in Total Viewers (480,000) and Women 18-49 (186,000), increasing by a respective 39% (vs. 349,000) and 50% (vs. 124,000).
  • All My Children” (M-F, 8:00 – 9:00 p.m.) posted robust year-to-year increases, up by 31% in Total Viewers (477,000 vs. 365,000) and by 57% in Women 18-49 (184,000 vs. 117,000) over 3Q08 deliveries.
  • General Hospital” (M-F, 10:00 – 11:00 p.m.) garnered hefty gains over year-ago levels, increasing by 10% in Total Viewers (454,000 vs. 413,000) and by 23% in Women 18-49 (174,000 vs. 142,000).

Makes sense, GH is avaliable to watch online. You can view the episode you missed anytime. But you can't view OLTL or AMC online, so if you don't have tivo, soapnet is the best way to go.

Exactly now that GH is available online that is where the soapnet audience can get there fix as far as OLTL/AMC the difference from them is so little that it doesn't even matter.

Actually, OLTL is available online on YouTube. Full episodes are posted daily there. Just do a search for One Life to Live.

I wonder what numbers ABC considers successful. Does it look at other basic cable stations like Syfy, USA, or TNT and want to receive millions of viewers or is it satisfied with 500K?

What is SoapNet's highest rated program this year? What were the ratings like for the GH spinoff, Nightshift? Premiered at 1 million viewers:

It's next highest rated program was Southern Belles, http://bit.ly/southern_belles, and it had similar ratings to OLTL, about 500K.

In comparison, look at ratings for other women centric programs on rival stations:

"E!'s new reality series "Kendra" premiered as the highest-rated series debut on the network since another former Playmate had a solo act on the network -- "The Anna Nicole Show" in 2002. In fact, "Kendra" out-performed all premiere episodes of "Girls Next Door," including last season's debut by 76% in the adult demo.

"Kendra" (clip below) at 10 p.m. averaged 2.6 million viewers and a 1.8 rating among adults 18-49. The docusoap also helped boost the second season premiere of "Denise Richards: It's Complicated," which hit a series high with 1.5 million viewers.

Over on Lifetime, the return of drama series "Army Wives" opened its third season with 3.5 million viewers and a 2.4 rating among women 18-49."

If soaps got these numbers on SoapNet, ABC would not hesitate to pump money into their soaps.

Still say that these soaps should be available on ON Demand.

Congrats to OLTL! Keep it up and *maybe* you'll have a chance of not getting cancelled next year.
