Insiders to TV Guide Canada: "One Life to Live Will Be Cancelled Next Year"

Wanna know why we keep fighting like hell to get people to watch One Life to Live? Here's why. Insiders are telling TV Guide Canada's Nelson Branco that Brian Frons had to make "Sophie' Choice" about which soap to save when he decided to move the complete and utter creative disaster that has become All My Children to LA, while passing off AMC's expensive, hand-me-down studio to OLTL.

Insiders are telling TV Guide Canada's Nelson Branco that Brian Frons had to make "Sophie' Choice" about which soap to save when he decided to move the complete and utter creative disaster that has become All My Children to LA, while passing off AMC's expensive, hand-me-down studio to OLTL.
Branco's sources co-sign what I have been reporting all along, had preliminary reels showcasing Aisha Tyler's hosting skills not tested poorly with audiences, OLTL would have already been cancelled. Branco's sources say barring a ratings miracle, the soap will be cancelled next year. I'm hearing it could happen as early as next Spring.
WATCH ONE LIFE TO LIVE!!!!!

I can't believe it, but after GL cancellation, it would of start an avalanche of other soaps being off the air, too. I hope that OLTL sticks around or go to another network.

I completely agree. If OLTL is cancelled while the AMC mess remains on the air to provide a job for Frons buddy I am completely done with ABC soaps (after nearly 35 years of viewing -- started at my grandma's knee).
OLTL is better written, better acted and from what I read more cost effective than AMC so killing it would make me stop watching ABC in the afternoons simply on principal -- even a week long Liason wedding would not bring me back, and that is saying alot!

Well I have very mixed feelings about this. I wasn't surprised, since I listen to the DC podcasts and Jamey's been warning us. I do feel if it ends in 2010, at least it will go out with some dignity and I think FV & RC are capable of giving us a good ending. But, OLTL is so good right now, best soap on air and I'm not ready to let it go. If/when it ends, I'm likely done with soaps, unless Y&R has a massive creative resurgence or if Nelson is right about the Kish boys maybe moving, but only if Ron gets to right for em.

If OLTL is indeed cancelled, I'm giving up on ABC!! Why is it that OLTL continues to be treated like the 'stepchild' of ABC?? It's the BEST show they have right now. Do they really believe we want to watch the crapiness that GH has become? That AMC is barely recognizable these days? If Mr. Frons had any brain power left, he'd take a look at "fixing" AMC first and look to return it to its glory days while telling Bob Guza at GH that there needs to be less mob/killings and more romance, storytelling! THAT MR. Frons is what can save the ABC Daytime division. But what the hell do we know? We're only 'dumb' fans of the show and we'll watch whatever you put in front of us, right? .

I'm with you, maven.I'm barely hanging on with what's left of soaps...OLTL goes....I will be very very sad. I watched it since day one- actually I watched all the ABC soaps since their first day!! I was pregnant with my son when Viki was pregnant with Kevin!
GH has been dead to me since they killed Alan Q, Emily Q & Georgie Jones....that's when I went back to GL.
Came back to AMC for Angie & Jesse but anymore....ugh.
*sigh*

I don't watch it either, but I know how great it is and I don't think it deserves to be cancelled. Hopefully with Gina coming back as Kelly, Dan coming back as Kevin, and (if the rumors are true) Thorsten coming back as Patrick or Ian the ratings will pick up. I agree with you, ambr78709 why don't they fire Frons instead they should save a whole of money and find someone who knows what they are doing. Spread the word you guys.

Not surprised..I think the writing was on the wall when Frons decided to move AMC to LA and kept OLTL in NY where it is just too expensive to film these shows.
BTW, I agree OLTL is the best soap on tv these days. Damn shame ABCD and soap fans don't appreciate it.

Hey Jamey, you know how you are always mentioning that OLTL doesn't get the promotion and advertising that GH does? Well someone out there heard you because I was watching the most recent episode of My Antonio on VH1, and there was a one minute long advertisement of OLTL during the commercial break! I have never even seen GH advertised on VH1, and I thought the OLTL commercial was brilliant! I even took a video (albeit a terrible one) with my camera phone in case no one believed me lol. It's just so big I'm not sure what to do with it.
Anyway, my point is that maybe someone somewhere is trying to save OLTL, besides the DC people that is.

Why should I care about a show that doesn't care about me? OLTL is not watchable. I could care less about Rex/Gigi and whoever else they put in that mess, not to mention Cole/Starr. If anyone behind the scenes (this means Ron and Frank) cared, we still wouldn't be having Rex/Gigi promos when the story has bombed from day one. They want my viewership, give me what I want, and Dorian pretending to be gay isn't my idea of entertainment.

Before I comment, can I PLEASE get some feedback on what is going on with the Stacy Morasco Fiasco?? SHE WAS THE REASON I STOPPED WATCHING IN LATE WINTER / EARLY SPRING. If she's still being 'Stacy', and if Crystal Hunt is still a horrible actress, I refuse to cave and tune back in.
My thoughts:
1) OLTL should NOT be on the chopping block. THAT distinctive honor should go to it's sister show Pine Crappery.
2) WHO is Brian Frons boss? Seriously! Sadly, jobs are getting cut left and right in this country, but somehow -- SOMEHOW this horrible executive still has a job. Shoot, I'LL do his job for HALF his salary!!
3) The status of daytime: This can only reverberate through the whole kit 'n kaboodle (obviously)... My heart only belongs to the Young and the Restless anymore (that's now ONE show from FOUR I used to watch. ALL ABC is off my docket)
But why would I want to tune (back) in if only to get my heart broken in another 6-12 months?? I'm serious when I say I don't think I will. I refuse to watch Soapnot, as it has been turned into a horrible shell of what it used to be (THANKS, FRONZ, you A-HOLE!!!) I won't watch ABC daytime because its just been RUINED. I'm part of their Neilson Ratings Slide, and I do NOT feel bad about that!

I keep asking this no one seems to know, don't these networks realize that people watch soaps on DVR, TIVO and web viewing. I watdh them on the web. I did read some were that they do keep track but don't count them. They need to get their head out of their ass. This is the 21st century.

craigcp, as I understand it, those numbers are taken into consideraton to a certain degree. However, advertisers are more interested in Live ratings. People aren't going to be watching commercials when they're watching online or on their DVR/TiVo. So even if a show had a million viewers online, it wouldn't matter much because it doesn't increase network revenue.

Frons need to get his rear Fired!! I watch all ABC soaps but Oltl is my all time favorite soap, if that goes. I wont be tuning into Sonny Hospital.... I mean General Hospital or AMC.

As the Soap Gods as my witness, if people don't start watching OLTL, I will be forced to break out the stripper pole and turn on "Cherry Pie" by Warrant! (Believe me, you don't want to see me strip.)
In all seriousness, watching OLTL is a daily treat for me. I actually LOOK FORWARD to watching it. And to see it shoved aside by Frons to placate Guza, Pratt, Phelps, and the other monstrous eogtistic hacks at the other two shows makes me completely ill.
But, if this pans out, any way in heaven Ron Carlivati could be offered Guza's job? *whistling*
