Sorry to say, but she sucked. It was only the first day though.

Meh. The jury is out... BUT for the record I hate cast changes that are generated by backstage drama. It puts the performer in such a hot seat that the viewer has a harder time accepting them than usual. As evidence I present the S. Ferguson replacement of K. Wagner, the return of the "real" Greenlee and casting Jamie Lunar as Liza Colby. It could blow up on them like the first two did!

Santiago was fine. I don't know what more anyone can expect for such a short amount of screen time.
Really, Ladyofthelake, I don't understand your comment. What did she do wrong?

josstheguy she did nothing wrong or right. Her scenes brief as they were, felt very forced and unantural. That whole stuff with Chris was badly acted. It's like she was imitating the previous actress. Plus I can't forget that she played Antonio's bio-gangster-mom on this show not to long ago. Like I said, it was only the first day, she might get better but I was not impressed.

Actually I liked her far better than PM and maybe SS can be useed more. PM has a full-time job & was doing OLTL on the side
Maybe we will see Carlotta more with SS in the role
THe fact that she was Isabella b4 doesnt bother me cause she was in & out so fast

I've loved SS since Miami Vice. Glad to see her on OLTL. I just hope they use her more than they did with PM.

She seemed okay, but she looks like she could be the Vega boys sister and not their mom.

I think it's too early for anyone to judge her. She's a good actress and probably just needs time to settle in to the character. I am personally just happy they cast a hispanic actress in the part. I appreciate the fact she can speak spanish, unlike her predesessor.

The jury is still out for me. PM always had that warmth and authenticity - that 'lived-in' look - so I really always felt that she was Antonio and Cristian's mother.
Clearly, SS did some quick research on how to react with everyone, but it was a bit too much effort showing to make us feel the bond with Christian, and jumping around as she talked her each character. Plus, her over-enunciation of the spanish was distracting, like when a news reporter tries to hard.
BUT, it was her first day, so I hope as she finds the root of her character, it will bring out the warmth of Carlotta. And make it her own. Even though she looks like a print model now.

I like her it is wierd seeing her playing such a nice warm character. I"m used to see her as a great evil woman
But I do hope they give her more meaty S/L cause she is such a great actress

SS definitely does not look the part of Momma Vega. PM looked and acted the part and was definitely believable as Antonio and Christian's mother. Based on the past portrayal of Carlotta and her history, she would NOT have reacted to the gay story line as they are portraying it. PM certainly knows her character, and even though it was a recurring role, should have the right to give her input on the character's reaction. It's early, but SS just doesn't seem like the mom and looks way to young to carry the role.

LOL Did anyone notice the end credits on OLTL today? Apparently someone forgot to tell the graphics people, because Patricia Mauceri was listed and Carlotta!
On another note there is an article with Patricia on the whole matter:

I always thought that Patricia Mauceri was mediocre. I'm sorry to say that I think Saundra Santiago is horrific beyond belief. Granted, she probably didn't have much time to prepare. Nevertheless, she's supposedly a professional, and it was one short scene. I've seen better acting many, many, many times in community theatre. Ultimately, it probably doesn't matter, because the average viewer (without any theatre, TV or film experience) can't tell the difference between good acting and bad acting.
