BREAKING: The Bold and the Beautiful Wins Outstanding Drama (Updated)

The Bold and the Beautiful won the night's biggest award, but The CW was so rushed on time we didn't even get to hear the acceptance speech.

Days of Our Livesconsidered by several to be its stiffest competition–didn't quite have what it took to win out over B&B's stellar submission. Thankfully, my theory that All My Children would win, thereby validating Chuck Pratt's vision was proven wrong.

The question now becomes, can B&B capitalize on its win and make a full-fledged comeback in quality? Hopefully it can.

I hope the acceptance speech gets heard online somewhere at least. Brad Bell deserved the win. That was a GREAT storyline they submitted it for. Congrats!

I was glad they won - BUT WAS DISGUSTED that they didn't get to have an acceptance speech. All in all the Emmy's were pretty terrible - it was poorly produced, the clip montage's seemed like previews to one of the CW's Crummy Teen tv series. Good for B&B though they deserved it.

I wonder if the ratings will be good enough to air the show next year

If they would have cut Vanessa's 2nd number they would have had more for GL and B& B's Speech

I have mixed feelings about B&B winning. I think for what they are doing NOW they deserve it. But the story lines from earlier in the year were not worthy of an emmy.

I thought Storm's suicide was one of the best written stories the soap has done in a long time. Congrats!

Here is an email that I sent to the CW in regards to tonight's broadcast of the Emmy Awards:

I have never been so upset with a television broadcast that happened with the Daytime Emmy awards. Throughout the Emmy show tonight you broke to commercial and kept cutting out during the broadcast and this was very upsetting. I normally never watch your channel and NEVER will again. We the viewers missed out on many speeches and award moments on the Emmy broadcast. One of the main reasons I watched was to see the Guiding Light tribute which was very brief and then once the entire GL cast gets on stage you cut them off and go to commercial, which happened six to eight times during the two hour show. The cast and crew of the Bold and the Beautiful was totally cut off. I have never ever viewed such a sloppy and pathetic TV broadcast!!

Congrats to B&B...I just started back watching the show. Brad Bell is long overdue for the award. It is nice to see Lee Philip Bell on stage and if only Bill Bell could have seen this. I hope they put the acceptance speech on youtube. I would really like to see it!

I am happy I got my pick right with B&B. I've been watching it since it went on the air. I don't think it was the best show of last year though.

HOWEVER

This broadcast was so low-rent that they couldn't even air the award of the night's acceptance speech?!?!? Disgraceful. I guess I shouldn't be surprised though. If there was ever a right thing to do for next year (if it even airs again next year), then they will give Brad Bell time at the beginning of next year's show after the opening number and monologue. I know awards shows sometimes run over, but it's still so disrespectful. Bill Bell is rolling over in his grave right now.

OMG!!! After hoping against hope and trying with all my might to believe that this years telecast would be exciting and at the least, respectful of the daytime community, once again we were all slapped in the face. What in the world does Vanessa Williams have to do with daytime television? And why did she need to sing TWO numbers??? Not showing acting clips of the majority of nominees, after showing them for the first two categories, is just lame. Giving Sesame Street what seemed like 90 minutes of the show, and giving Guiding Light the equivalent of 90 seconds, really really REALLY shows the inability of these people to grasp what daytime television is truly about. And then, to end the show with Brad Bell finally winning an Emmy, and giving us all a chance to hear him express his gratitude and possibly honor the memory of his late, great, father, only to have the CW start rolling the credits??? I am saddened, sickened, and utterly revolted at the treatment daytime receives. If there are daytime emmys next year, why not just give the trophies away at the nearest Olive Garden, i'm sure it would be classier

Sorry, bad, bad nominations! Even Y and R's old regime should have taken this one for best drama...just saying.

I hope someone tells CW to read all the rants on this site. Hopefully, next year someone does this show justice

If there is a show next year, on one hand im happy that the CW aired the show but on the other...only 90 seconds for GL and they werent included in the modeling part? Is GL not eligible next year or what? I've heard conflicting reports and not hearing the acceptance speech for best show? Come on instead we got Vanessa singing for no reason and dancing with a guy from dancing with the freaking stars.

I agree though I don't watch CBS soaps, I know how great they are. One of the main reasons why is the Bell family and the fact that Brad finally won for his show and he didn't get a chance to speak and celebrate was just wrong. But this is not the first time this has happen on the Daytime Emmys. They don't do it to the Oscars and they ran over for about 10 minutes or more. I have to say the show was really awful though Betty White was great as always. Hopefully this will not be televised on the CW anymore. I agree Vanessa Williams, though I am a fan, her hosting the Daytime Emmys, now if she had been on a soap before I understand, but it just didn't make sense.

Vanessa Williams was great. I think that the show should air one daytime like they use to be.

"Is GL not eligible next year or what? I've heard conflicting reports"

GL should be eligable next year. If I'm not mistaken the reels submitted for this show were all from 2008.

Thats what I heard but then journalist were talking about this being the last year GL was eligible then agai I should take what they say with a grain of salt, most of the journalist still think Luke and Laura are together. I've heard DC say their eligible so i'm going with them I don't want anymore disapointments tonight.

Well that was just tacky not letting the person accepting the main award of the night say a few words. I could've done without that stupid fashion show (tacky also) so they would've had time for Brad Bell's speech. The entire show was one big rush job except for the Sesame Street number and of course Vanessa's two numbers. Did she thinks she was hosting the Oscars or Tony's or something? Good grief.

This was the worst Emmy telecast ever, and that includes the year Dick Clark cut Jill Farren Phelps off when GH won for best show. At least SHE got to be shown on stage! I'm not a CBS fan, but B&B deserved it's moment in the spotlight, and GL deserved more than 2 bows onstage. Vanesssa Williams did a good job hosting, although what she has to do w/ daytime I have NO idea. Most of the speeches were rushed. I don't want to hear an actor going on ad nauseum for 10 minutes, but at least let them get on stage before you start telling them to wrap it up, for goodness sake! No In Memorium (again). No clips (except for the first 2 awards), sloppy camera work (I saw at least twice where the camera cut to the wrong (empty) actors' mark... shameful! Does anyone know what Darrin Brooks said that most of his speech was silenced? Apparently he swore, but it seems like the censors jumped the gun to me.

I really wanted to be positive but this year was just the worst yet, IMO. The only highlights for me were Julie Marie Berman and Susan Haskell's speeches, the opening number, and the Sesame Street tribute. The rest? Eh. I'm kind of hoping they just put the awards on the Web next year, so that they can be as long (or short) as they need to be w/o worrying about time constraints.

I don't think Darrin Brooks knew what he was saying, he was so shocked he won. I think he dropped a couple curse words and they cut the boy off. And did anybody notice how only the first two acting awards presented (supporting actor and younger actress) got pieces of their emmy reels presented? We didn't even get to see clips from lead actor and actress. A real shame.

well I am happy that the academy awarded B&B over AMC's CGI tornado I'm so tired of the emmys giving the best show award to the biggest stunt sure B&B had the suicide episodes but it had real drama based around it not explosions.

I've never been so disgusted with the way that this show was put together and produced. And Michael Fairmans clips of GL that he put together was an absolute joke (sorry Michael, but you should stick with writing for The Advocate and not have anything to do with daytime, oh, and your self absorbed website will be coming off of my computer). The CW owes all of the B&B fans and daytime an explanation for their ineptness and lack of knowledge of putting an awards show together. Advice CW: DON'T DO IT AGAIN! This was horrible! Brad Bell deserved to have his acceptance speech heard and his Dad, Bill has got to be rolling over in his grave. Ugh! As much as I love watching America's Next Top Model every now and then, this man will NOT watch any of the trash that the CW puts out from here on out. You've completely told us that to you, daytime sucks and we don't care if you missed an acceptance speech or not, so screw you." Nice CW, well, SCREW YOURSELVES!

I'm not gonna rag on this year's awards, because I do believe the best they could, and it was no better or worse than any other ceremony in recent memory. And they did it with no money, no publicity, and no network support.

That said, it was absolutely tragic that they panicked and cut the show early - and clearly it was early because all that time they were showing the credits, they could've easily shown the speech. But as they were essentially renting the space, for all we know they thought the CW affiliates would've been cutting off the show on their channel anyway.

Bill Bell and family always deliver quality shows. However, DOOL recovered from so many backstage disaters. Ed Scott was a miracle worker in the time he was so-executive producer. He literally saved the show along with the hard working cast. Gary Tomlin has been a good addition, too. DOOL needed a morale booster and it actually deserved recognition this year. Let's hope that the Dena Higly debacle will soon be completely over and she will go on to bigger and better things. Chris Whitesell, Rick Draughon have been making great progress. At least DOOL did get recognition as one of the top three of the year.

well Days did win 2 awards which is more than they've won in the acting category since Billy Warlock won for younger actor as Frankie way back in the day so i'm sure there celebrating I did want them to win best show though.

I don't think having incestuous relationships and having Brooke and Bridget sleeping with the same guy and have a old geezer pouring honey on his little girl as great tv? LOL, Days should of won, but Brad should of have his speech heard.

I only wish that Days had been as good the last 7 months as it had been the first five. They would have swept up! It was a personal loss that Days went south because they had so much going for it. Then it deadlined on screen and for no apparent reason totally junked a five month old story that was going really well and replaced it with no story at all.
This year has been a slight improvement but I am hardly compelled to watch the show. I dislike about half of the characters and only really care about 2 or three characters on the entire canvas.

B&B congrats on winning. You got robbed a couple times for best daytime so this was payback!

B&B can win next year with Brooke and Taylor bond and the Jackie and Owen romance.

Congrats to B&B. I personally was rooting for Days because it's dear to my heart and they were nominated for once, but I'm glad B&B won over AMC with drama versus CGI! It's a shame Brad Bell and the cast weren't able to be recognized though, it's the biggest honor of the night and to cut it off is just tacky!

As a whole, I wasn't a fan of the telecast or the pre-show. Lara Spencer, never watch her on "The Insider" or whatever, but I thought she was just horrible! I agree with Melodie, I heard her ask Gina Tognoni how to pronounce her last name. That's shameful! It was nice to see Jamey, Stephanie and Nelson be the experts and have their say, but I totally think that they should have been the ones hosting. The experts in the field should be talking to the stars of daytime. Lara and Kevin were clearly out of their element and it showed!

The Emmy show itself was a commercial for the CW. Sad that Jennie Garth, who is on 90210, had her name pronounced incorrectly by the announcer (he called her Jeannie Garth). If the announcer is screwing up the names of the stars of the network the show is on, how does that bode well for the other actors? The Fashion skit was dumb and why wasn't a couple from GL represented? Again, lame, but if every show had a couple, GL should have had one too! What, did they get locked out of the theater doing wardrobe changes in the streets of downtown LA? It's a sketchy area there! And the GL tribute got cut, total disrespect! I don't even watch the show, but it deserved a good ten minutes, not ten seconds of the cast walking out to be cut off for a commercial!

Congrats to all the winners! Hopefully there will be a telecast next year. And hopefully there is a better team running it.

DC, is it possible to get a typed acceptance speech or video from Brad Bell? You guys respect the daytime community and the fans and supporters of B&B can get an opportunity to see Brad Bell actually thank them for it!
