With DVR adoption estimated to hit 50% by 2010, and the networks putting same day episodes of most soaps online, I have been wondering how our readers consume their favorite soaps. Are you one of the few remaining ‘live’ viewers that watch their favorite soaps as they air, or do you watch on the network's site? Do you download your soaps off of iTunes or fan sites? Or maybe you use a video sharing site such as Youtube? This poll is sure to be an interesting one and I cannot wait to see the results.

The option for multiple selections wasn't available, but while I normally watch live, if I miss my show during the day I will watch it either on CBS.com or sometimes SoapNet.

I chose the DVR as I REFUUUUUUUSE to watch SoapNot once OLTL was moved to the midnight hours (and, I subsequently don't watch THATS SHOW anymore!! ABC HONCHO'S ARE IDIOTS!!)
But I LOOOOVE how this poll didn't even include them!! WAAA-WAAAAAA!!!
My Young and the Restless gets DVR'd. YES, I spend more money monthly, than give Soapnet my 'numbers'.
They ruined a once VERY GOOD THING.

(I should specify, the OLTL MARATHON got moved. 9:00 Monday through Thursday, there's just too much stuff on in the fall and winter. I used to catch up on the marathon Sunday afternoon when I cleaned and did laundry...If I wanted to watch Gilmore Girls, I would have when it WAS ACTUALLY ON THE AIR!!)
Just wanted to clarify!

Yea you can only pick one option (SORRY!) so I added All of the above

DANMAN-I think you would have checked "all of the above." I don't think the poll should have included "All of THE ABOVE" as an option. That answer doesn't tell us much because let's say I DVR my show every day, but one day a week, or less (like the only time I'm off of work) for some reason, I'm home and that one day I get to watch it live. Well, that's only that one day. The question should have stated "what is the primary way you watch soaps?"

@Goyankees OR you could tune into ABC family and watch it one of the millions of times it repeats -.-.
And i am right there with you on the OLTL marathons, the moment they left was pretty much when i stopped watching SN, i still try every now and again if i miss the live airing, but its to much of a hassle during the fall, and sorry I am not going to watch One LIFE in the middle of the night.

The reason i included All of the above is because i do ALL OF the above. I watch soaps live (mainly GL now, but otherwise i watch CBS) i record them (Soapnet abc/days) I watch them online (Home and away) and download them (Coronation street) so there are people who's primary way is All of the above lol.

Interesting Poll!!! Personally, I couldn't survive without my DVR, lol

Most of the time I DVR my soaps, but my Tivo is full a lot so sometimes I watch my soaps online as well. Apparently I record more shows than I have time to watch! I still have Season Finales from last season I haven't gotten around to! LOL! So I think "All of the above" is a valid option as well.

If this poll doesnt explain the across the board ratings drop for soaps, I dont know what does.
WAKE UP NETWORKS.

Since I'm not in the US, I watch the show (GL)on a streaming channel. There is actually a bunch of us that do that.
I would totally watch it on CBS.com but and give them hits but it is for US residents only.

@EET-
Exactly, the days of everyone sitting infront of their t.v. and watching is LONG GONE! It is time for the networks to realize this and WAKE UP.
Hopefully this poll will awaken them.
Also to the other person who voted "People still watch soaps" ....i wish i could say i wasn't amused by that....

Johnathon, I guess that's why I didn't like the "ALl of the Above" option, because of the point that I figured you were trying to prove a point ratings wise, and if someone watched live once a week, only watched online or youtube once in a while, but DVR'd the rest of the time, the DVR result wouldn't come thru as well.

Definitely, I think the networks need to wake up and see how most soap viewers are consuming their shows. Even if I'm home, I'm usually doing something where I cannot watch live--so I catch up on YouTube if it's a very good day, otherwise if I feel like it, I watch it on the DVR.

the networks need to wake up and realize the fans are here and we have money. I went to soapnation saturday in texas and there were about 1500 people there it was crazy I spoke to the head of the event and she told me they honestly only expected 100-150 people to show up. There was nothing available to purchase like shirts or anything but the actors were great that showed up. The networks could make money by creating ways for us to purchase more things because let me tell you if soap fans are dedicated enough to stand in line for 4 hours and not get an autograph were crazy enough to wear an I love the Jackal shirt around town. I chose youtube simply because i'm currently watching the Carly and Bo saga on there and it seemed appropriate.

I record my soapies on VCR (yes, I still use one). I record OLTL & GL. I try to watch live when I can, which is usually during the summer months, when I get to watch all 4 CBS'ers and One Life. But if all else fails, OLTL is on Soapnet, and GL is online!

So that's why the ratings are so low. I DVR my soaps, but from the original network broadcast. I guess I'm old school because it's just not the same feeling to me watching them any other way.

I live in Europe and I watch Y&R on the french channel, well I DVR it to watch it when I get home from work while I cook diner & stuff.
BUT
since we are 3 years behind, Ive also been following the US episodes since end of 2007 with YOUTUBE at first and then by downloading each episode via bittorent.
they are in HQ, takes less than 20 mins to get and it's awesome!
in about a year, I will be able to stop watching in France and just keep on with the US! YAY!
