So it’s not a big deal that Guiding Light is ending?
We’ve gotten used to soaps lasting so many years, the death of one takes on all this drama. But Guiding Light has been a poor performer for many many years.
Frons, a former exeutive at the sudser, also gave his feelings about his old stomping ground being taken off the air:
What about personally for you? It’s kind of like your old high school being demolished, no?
No. It’s taking a patient off life support, not a sudden tragic death in the family or anything. I was sadder when I heard about production changes, lots of technical behind-the-scenes stuff that starts to affect talent and quality.

God help me for defending him, but he does have a pt. I didn't mind the filming, but there was no meat (story) for a good chunk of that time and I believe that drove viewers away. But this is the same man who lets his junk dictate story so his comments don't mean anything.

Cgat, LOL. Brian Frons is a joke and he talking about GL when he should be talking about his own soaps, AMC and GH. They both suck and his decisions for the soaps have many fans tune out just like Barbara Bloom did too. He needs to just shut up and worry about his soaps because they are still on the fence with the "C" word.

I blame him and his cronies for the demise of the entire soap genre. He won't stop until it's completely unrecognizable as a viable art form and ABC Daytime consists of equally nauseating portions of Good Morning America, Dr. Phil and game show hell.
How can someone with such heartless disdain for soaps be in charge of them?

What just gets me is the damn hypocrisy. GL was on life support, but you know what, his own soaps are starting to be on life support bc of his doing. AMC will be gone in a year and the production changes that happened at GL which he complains about starting to head towards AMC/OLTL way pretty soon. All I got to say is that he better shut up now before he bits his tongue in the future and his soaps get more messy. AMC already is.

From what I read, it seems he might have a point, but he's not the one that should be making that point. It seems he's just saying soaps should be held accountable like any other show and when they fail, they should be replaced. Well, how many times has GH, OLTL, and AMC failed horribly over the years? He's not turning over shows and replacing them with with new soaps.
GL is dead and Ellen Wheeler and Barbra Bloom made sure of that. That is a sad thing. When production changes happened, people lost jobs and that is more important to Frons I guess, but he's "streamlining" production himself. I'm thinking that means people being cut back on their hours and even others losing their jobs. What he's doing is like putting quick check lines in the grocery store while hiring a bunch of kids to work 20 hour weeks and in the end, he's going to close the store down anyways due to loss in profits. So in essence, his shows are dead too. I guess he's saying at least people have jobs where they were just let go at GL. It's a business and you got to think of real life matters first. I guess that is what he is saying. He's just being a analytical asshole about it.

Response: This comment coming from someone who absolutely destroyed ABC Daytime soaps. Along with Guza. I still say Frons and Guza have something they are holding over an official at Disney, keeping them on Disney's payroll. With all the dissatisfied fans writing continually about them to Disney, why are they still there?

Talk about kicking people while they are down!
Frons needs to worry about GH and AMC (leave OLTL ALONE) and let someone get those shows back on track. He must be out of touch with how bad his shows suck (except One Life), and have been ignored by fans for the last few years.
As for metioning Luke and Laura in the interview, I think that ship sailed a long time ago. Let it go. I love Genie Francis, and I hope she never returns to GH again. She deserves to be on Y&R or One Life, they know how to write for people over 40 and do not have a gun as the co-star in every scene.

First of all, I'd like to thank the many ABC fans who've been extremely sensitive to the feelings of the fans of GL, especially in light of Mr. (sic) Frons' comments regarding GL. As a fan of GL (almost 30 years here), I was offended and extremely hurt by his comments just like I was at Ken Cordays comments. You'd think that these so called executives would keep their mouth's shut and let us GL fans mourn in peace?! But noooooooooooo, they have to open their traps and twist the knife in even harder. Thanks Brian and Ken, you've really endeared yourselves to the fans of GL............NOT! You've got some gall and nerve to make these comments with almost less than a month left before GL officially goes off the air. Shame on you.

When are we going to get a press release from Frons stating whichever show he cancels first was a "poor performer" and "on life support" because all the shows on ABC even their amazing GH (which I do watch) is basically on life support. When GL was cancelled they were getting 1.7's look at his daytime lineup they get 1.7's constantly now on different days of the week it just seems like he's an asshat and I've never met the man you can just tell not to mention he's just not interested in soaps. You would think ABC daytime would at least put a muzzle on him. And one last thing i'm tired of GH always being called the Luke and Laura soap, Laura is gone and Luke is barely on the show he has another son with holly running around and is semi married to Tracey Frons made sure of that to.
