This storyline has come out of left field. Why would Deacon still be carrying a torch for Amber after all these years? He sure wasn't thinking about her when he married my Macy or was boinking Jackie. Amber fought tooth and nail for Lil' Deke, yet she hasn't seen or heard from that child in years? Also, why doesn't anyone in Genoa City know about Amber & Deacon's connection when they BOTH were married to Rick & Bridget Forrester? That should have been plastered on various covers of tabloids over the years. Eye On Fashion would've had a field day...
I'm still enjoying Y&R tremendously, but things need to start slowing down and making a little bit more sense...
THEBEST, lemme see if I can hook you up.. Amber was the girl that got away w/Deacon... Makes sense to me....
EJ/Sami meet Deacon/Amber.
Sean Kanan is great. He's one of daytime's best actors and always brings his best. So, I'm happy to see him back on daytime, but am disappointed in how the show has made his character into a virtual rapist.
Why keep watchin a show that keeps disappointing you then? You sound just as bad as that flea David.
Y&R doesn't "keep disappointing me." There are some great actors and storylines. This virtual rape disgusts me. Why should I keep silent? If people don't speak out about what bothers them on their favorites soaps, then nothing will change.
Look at this clip. Amber was victimized by Deacon and she is made the villain when Heather accuses her of wrong doing. That's gross. It's just another way of blaming a rape victim.
Do you remember after news came out about Chris Brown beating Rihanna that many online sites were inundated with comments saying that Rihanna must have deserved a beating? Brown was given a pass for his violence.
It's the same thing with Amber and Deacon. He can force her to have sex and she is blamed and told that she wanted it.
You can take a turd and wrap it up in fine silk but it's still crap.
If soaps are to survive, they have to stop letting male writers like Hogan Sheffer push these kinds of storylines that demean women. Sheffer wrote the same storyline at Days of Our Lives when he had EJ threaten Sami to get her to sleep with him. Shortly thereafter, EJ became Sami's lover.
C'mon, now... Saying Amber was raped is a slap in the face to everyone who has ever been raped. She CHOSE to sleep with Deacon. She CHOSE to not do something simple, such as wear a damn wire or bug her purse with a digital voice recorder when she was around Deacon. This girl can hop in the Mystery Machine with the rest of her goons and help solve the Mrs. Chancellor/Marge fiasco, help save Kevin from pending psychological doom, but can she can't think to bug her damn purse????? Please! She was not raped. Sleeping with Deacon was a means to an end. Next thing I know you guys will be telling me Rafe raped Adam. She isn't a rape victim. She was simply duped. Basically, I'm saying this woman had options, unlike REAL RAPE VICTIMS. She didn't have to sleep with Deacon. She could have told Daniel the truth. She could have bugged her purse. Rape victims, virtual or otherwise, don't have choices. They are manhandled, overpowered, and PHYSICALLY FORCED into having sexual intercourse.
That being said, there's no way in hell Amber's nana is so ill that Deacon would come up with such a convoluted scheme to have her again. The Deacon I know would have just showed up at her apartment and said, "You know you want me" and complications would ensue. Eric Forrester would have married and divorced Amber, like, 5 or 6 times if she were all that in the sack. LOL!
Amber was the victim of sexual assault. What happened to her was illegal. If you COERCE someone into sex that is illegal. People go to jail for doing what Deacon did.
Maybe you missed the recent headlines like this one: "New Berlin student charged with blackmailing students into sex acts" tinyurl.com/mpqcjt
If you don't want to believe me fine. Ask a lawyer or a police officer.
IA with you. Amber is a victim and is being treated like she is in the wrong. I thought Amber/Deacon had a good friendship later on in B&B and to see how they reintroduced him onto the scene is just gross and disgusting. What is more gross is people saying Amber deserved what she got. No one deserves to be blackmailed into sex regardless of what your past is. Deacon says he loves Amber, that she is his soul mate. Well blackmailing someone into bed because you know they won't sleep with you otherwise sure isn't love to me. What a way to remember your first time with that person. Deacon threatened Amber and when she first said no he showed her he was serious in his threats. He made her feel that sleeping with him was her only option. SK is a wonderful actor but I cannot respect if the writers now put Deacon and Amber together after what Deacon did. They have ruined that pairing for me forever. It would have been better to have him arrive with Eric in hand and Daniel wasn't ready to settle down and have kids.
About the clip, I am glad Amber tries and goes to press charges. It just reminded me again what an idiot Heather is. When Deacon said he was working with Victoria why not ask what were you working with her on. Hopefully heather with her pea size brain will go have a talk with Victoria where Victoria will mention Deacon was a "victim" of the toroni as well and lost money. I have a feeling once again it will be Michael who figures things out. Michael is very appreciative for all that Amber did for Kevin risking her life and freedom for him and I think he will work overtime to help her. Heather just might be winning her first real big case but only because Michael is telling her step by step what to do. I hope Amber stays strong and really becomes a confident and secure person after this s/l is said and done. Until then I have my popcorn ready to sit back and watch Daniel beat the crap out of Deacon.
People go to jail for sleeping with underage boys, but Amber did that on B&B. Where was the righteous indigestion then? People go to jail for kidnapping babies, and for passing them off as other babies, it's called fraud. People go to jail for drugging men, then getting their BFF's to dress up like a man to "marry" their drugged victims. Amber and Deacon are essentially the same person. They are cut from the same cloth. A couple of hot grifters. I am glad he is back in her life and I think they are as hot as they were years ago. Bring on the Deacon/Amber/Daniel triangle!
Someone needs to stop watching the show if he/she/it can't figure out its not real life.
Jamey, I have to disagree with you. Amber didn't want to have sex with Deacon, but did it to save her friends from prison. That is blackmail and I can't get behind this pairing because Amber and Deacon was friends and I don't believe that he would ever do that to Amber. He would of seduce her and talk about the good times and Amber would of be with him. But now I can't get behind this pairing. Even though I hate the things Amber did on B&B and Y&R, I still don't think that he should of blackmail her to have sex with her. I doesn't make any sense and fans are not happy with it. But the overall misogyny on Y&R is disturbing and I hope that the writers change it.
David jr I mean siomonstuart wake up already! Watch a talk show if Y&R sucks to you.
hey, crusher, I know that it is a soap, but I not the only one feeling that the show is horrible, look at the ratings and the bad plot driven s/ls on our screens? Many fans are not happy and the head of Sony went to the Y&R studios and have a meeting to say hey, shape up or some head is going to roll. I going to speak my opinion if you like it or not.
I doesn't make any sense and fans are not happy with it.
Correction, "some" fans are not happy with it. I am a fan of all the characters involved and I am very happy with this plot twist. Why is it misogyny when Amber is the victim of a stunt? Was it girlsogyny, or whatever word people want to trumpet when Amber was victimizing men? LOL You guys act like this is GH or AMC where women are being called bitches and hoes and having glass broken at their feet. This plot is classic soap, and beyond that classic pot boiler/film noire. I can't count the old movies with a similar set up. Not to mention all the Harlequin novels aimed at (gasp) women with titles like "Blackmailed by the Billionaire into Bed", or "The Rogue's Blackmail of the Maiden". I think there has become a state of hysteria with any story Maria and Co. try to write. I call each story out as I see it, and don't subscribe to mass hysteria and histronics or bandwagon jumping where words like misogyny continue to be bandied about ad nauseum. I hate the Phillip return and said so. I think the Chipmunk story is lame. I am ready for Ashley to grown a brain, but Y&R is still one of the most entertaining hours on daytime for me.
Was the Rachel/Steve/Alice story on AW misogynistic? It had one man ping ponging between two women for years, how is that any different than Phyllis/Nick/Sharon? Should AW never have done that classic story? Speaking of Rachel, was AW horrific women haters for having her sleep with Mitch to save Mac's life, siring Matthew? Give me a break!
None of these stories would have happened if writers were tied up by all the righteous indigestion found on message boards. Adrienne, Sean and Michael are all bringing it in this storyline and that's all I want, good soaps. I learned my morals from my Mama and my polical correction from a Sociology class, I want my soaps to entertain me. That's all.
I guess it is how people see the situation I guess. For example I think the Todd and Marty storyline was pretty good when looking back on it. And all I have to say about this storyline is that why retread a plot that you used on your previous show that got a negative response.
I don't understand why you're trying to obfuscate the issue by making this about MAB. Your peers, Nelson Branco, Sara Bibel, and the trio at WeLoveSoaps.net have all written or spoken out about their disgust with Deacon's assault of Amber.
I like most of MAB's work. I find this storyline, a repeat of Hogan Sheffer's EJ/Sami, gross.
Amber's crimes were terrible but that doesn't mean that she deserves to be forced into having sex. Deacon, as Sara Bibel wrote, treated Amber like meat. He forced her to wear lingerie and the held her hands down to have his way with her.
As for women committing crimes against men, if they are sexually offender, then those women deserve jail time as much as any man. Prior to Y&R retconning the Delia storyline, Chloe raped a drunk Cane. I can't stand the character for that.
Coerced rape is coerced rape. Let's not romanticise it. I have the same reaction to this that I did when Crystal Hunt's Lizzy raped that guy on GL or Sami the rapist on DAYS or Jack being raped on ATWT. I remember Christina Chambers's character raping a man on Spyder Games. Or Jax being raped on GH, and it being seen as infidelity!
Amber felt she had no choice but to sleep with him, and Deacon played on that. I don't know what Amber did on BB nor do I care. I'm watching YR now, and what I see is despicable to me, and it makes no difference to me what AMC or GH or DAYS are doing or did. It matters what YR is doing. The woman hating has to stop.
A woman is at an ATM. A man comes up to her. He says, "I have your son. Unless you withdraw 1,000, you'll never see your son again." The man has no gun. The woman has no proof that the man actually has her son, but she quickly gets him the money. He runs off. She could have screamed for help. She could have tried to fight him. She could have tried to escape. She had options, but she chose to give the money. The man never had her son.
She doesn't have a blemish free past either. She bounced some checks. She ran a few red lights. No amount of soft lighting or music would make it any less of a robbery; nor would her past infractions change it to a simple financial transaction. The attractiveness of the man wouldn't make it any less of a robbery either.
Josstheguy, why do you think continuing to remind me what my peers are saying will get me to change my tune? I am my own person, with my own opinion. I respect their opinions, but mine is different. Last time I checked that was allowed. In my opinion Amber wasn't forced to do anything. She was given a choice. She could have gone to Daniel or Kay for help, but she made a choice. Deacon is a deliciously sadistic pig, he always has been. Soaps are full of them. If they weren't it wouldn't be entertaining. That's my take. You are familar with the phrase "my" as in pertaining to me? I told you the other day, I don't even like having discussions with you because if someone disagrees with you, you start calling them disgusting and calling their personal morality into question, which is absurd. I don't base my opinions about rape in real life on a soap opera, any more than I do corporate espionage or anything else, so if you can't separate the too, there is really no need to keep engaging me. You attacked me about the Chris Engen thing when that wasn't even my doggone story, it was Nelson's but now you keep telling me what he is saying, or Sara is saying. I do me. Just me. if you disagree, fine, good, great, we all have our opinions, but you need to stop trying to make everything so personal.
As much as I don't like where the writers went with the s/l and how they introduced Deacon/Amber I have to give kudos to Adrienne Frantz, Michael Graziadei, and Sean Kanan. Their acting has been top notch. I thought the money scene from last year would be hard to top but AF and MG out did themselves in that jail scene. I hope that they keep that scene in mind for their emmy reel. Something tells me their powerful scenes together are just getting started. I just have a hard time with what they did to Deacon/Ambers friendship. It was ruined for me when they had Deacon blackmail Amber for sex. I have a feeling Eric will be getting involved and a possible custody case will ensue. I wonder if Eric will be like Cassie and Danny will get Daniel to see that him raising Eric might be one of the best things to happen to him, like Daniel was for him. Even though the s/l's seem to be more plot driven then character lately the acting is what is carrying the show for me (with a few exceptions and I hope one of the rumors is true. DC gang, any word on Colleen?) I noticed that days that Tom C. is writing the breakdown I really enjoy it, can you promote the guy and have him write more?
I agree with you 100%.
cmleidi, I am in love with you for referencing "Spyder Games!"
To the people that didn't think that Deacon raped Amber:
1. DEFINITION OF RAPE IN IHT AND INTERNATIONAL LAW
ARTICLES 12(First)(G), 13(Second)(V) and 13(Fourth)(F)
Rape is defined in the IHT Elements of Crimes as:
The perpetrator invaded the body of a person by conduct resulting in penetration, however slight, of
any part of the body of the victim or of the perpetrator with a sexual organ, or of the anal or genital
opening of the victim with any object or any other part of the body.
The invasion was committed by force, or by threat of force or coercion, such as that caused by fear of
violence, duress, detention, psychological oppression or abuse of power, against such person or
another person, or by taking advantage of a coercive environment, or the invasion was committed
against a person incapable of giving genuine consent.
I am a rape survivor and counsel my students who have been victimized as rape. Amber was raped...
This doesn't mean that I hate Y&R or anything, rape is a fact of life that most people have to deal with. It just doesn't make me want to root for a pairing between the rapist and victim.
Jamey, I love bad girls, like Helena Cassidine and Phyllis Summers and Liz Sanborne, but I just don't want this to be a let's jump on Amber. Amber did some terrible things, but she feels bad for the things she did. She doesn't deserve to be treated as a piece of meat. I wanted a Deacon/Amber/Daniel triangle, but after this, I can' get behind them if that is what the writers are going. Jamey, I respect your opinion and don't think I am jumping on you. We agree to disagree.
PS, Jamey, do you think that Eric should take the pay cut? I think that he should because Y&R is having some money troubles and he should take it for the team like everyone else that has to take a pay cut? I like your opinion on it.
Simonstuart, I definitely think Eric should take the pay cut.
I still don't believe she was raped.
I mention your peers because you said, " I think there has become a state of hysteria with any story Maria and Co. try to write. "
Your peers didn't like the rape and they like MAB and her writing. I like MAB, but this story was poorly conceived and executed.
As you said, you called out the Phillip Returns story as being bungled, I'm doing the same thing here. We disagree. Fine.
I agree with Jamey. I'm not too crazy about these kinds of s/l's but I find this completely different than the EJ/Sami fiasco. Sami was trying to find help for Lucas who was lying in the snow pinned down by a wooden beam near death. EJ held a gun on Sami because he wanted her to help him escape the authorities, therefore, she had no one else to turn to at that moment. EJ bartered a man's life for sex. Amber had options available to her. She could have looked to others for help in setting up Deacon and exposing his part in the framing of Daniel.
I think the important thing to recognize is that AMBER felt she had no other options. Would you or I have done something different? Probably. But regardless of how we feel we would react to the situation, Amber felt like she had no other choice. And agree or disagree that meets the technical definition of rape, no question about it.
Now that's enough of me rationalizing a soap character's behavior as if she were a real person. I'm going to end up talking to Mr. Kitty with Mary Jane if I'm not careful!
And yes, EB better take the pay cut when all the women around him have most likely had to!
No Josstheguy, it isn't the same thing. I didn't say that anyone who liked the Phillip story was "disgusting" or "trying to guilt me into their opinion". See, I know how to debate with someone and not make it personal. You don't seem to. Season and I disagree on things all the time and she is one of my favorite posters, and I don't cringe when I see her posts. I do with you, because I know you will end up freaking out and antagonizing someone to make your point. Alistair Crane and I also disagree all the time, but I find him HYSTERICAL. You make good points, but again, if you can't engage me without making it personal, then don't seek me out for comment, I am beyond done with this.
