Wishful Casting Poll: If Robin Strasser Leaves, Who Should Play OLTL's Dorian Lord?

Okay, let me start off by saying I hope Robin Strasser will be on One Life to Live until the last plate of hash is served up at the Bon Jour Cafe. That being said, I have to do what I do. If I could write Wishful Castings for Jill Abbott and Nikki Newman, I gotta do one for Dorian Lord , but this time I'm gonna make it interactive, and ask you, our readers who you would like to see fill the role of Dorian— if anyone— should Strasser announce her exit today on her hotline?

For my money Anna Stuart (ex-Donna, Another World; ex-Vanessa, Guiding Light; ex-Mary, All My Children) would be the best fit. Stuart has mastered the art of playing the glammed out bee youch. If the show wants someone more in the vein of Strasser's larger-than-life style, there's also Louise Sorel (ex-Augusta, Santa Barbara), or Marj Dusay—suggested by one of my secret soap pals— who will soon finish her run as Aunt Alex on Guiding Light. If OLTL wants to grab a headline, Raquel Welch could be fun.  What do you think, if Strasser leaves, who should play Dorian Lord?

They can gladly take Judith Chapman away from Y&R to play her.

I understand there are people who believe every actor is replaceable. Heck Strasser is a recast, Slezak is a recast. If they cannot afford RS, they cannot afford anyone else. Strasser is Dorian; Dorian is Strasser.

Jamey, I would be more interested in a wishful casting the other way. Where would you like to see her go, if OLTL doesn't get to keep her?

Victoria Wyndham has been gone too long, I vote for her. Robin Strasser could be Vivian on Days. Especially with Carly on the way back. Not that Louise Sorel shouldn't be called first.

Hmm. I took a while to think about it. Anybody think of Maureen Garrett (ex-Holly, GL)? That would be great! She's a phenomenal actress too.

I answered the last choice....that no one can play Dorian but Robin Strasser. I just will not buy anyone else in the role. I believe that and would not want them to recast.

That said, I won't stop watching OLTL if she leaves. I will be heartbroken over it, but there are still too many great characters and actors that I enjoy on OLTL for me to stop watching it right now. However, it gives me one less reason to watch the show, and if they keep picking off standout actors like Robin S., I may soon find myself just shutting it off for good.

DON'T DO IT OLTL!!

If Robin does quit, and in my opinion if this is the way Frons is going to treat her she should, Dorian should go to.

How about Elaine Princi or Clair Milis, people who have actually played the role of Dorian Lord before?

How bout Dixie Carter who temped as Dorian in 1974 when originator Nancy Pinkerton Peabody was out for a while?

If Strasser goes, I hope the show does bring a daytime vet back to play the role. Dorian is such a fun character with a colorful history. I love all of the actresses mentioned, but let's not forget some of these daytime greats:

Judith McConnell (Santa Barbara)
Carmen Duncan (Another World)
Christine Tudor (Loving)
Sharon Wyatt (General Hospital)

I hope RS decides to stay at OLTL..I love Dorian. Besides, if ATWT goes off the air next, and I hope it doesn't, RS would be looking for another job.

Grimm, I think Kathleen Noone is a great choice! I hope Strasser stays put, though.

BTW, the Llanview restaurant is called the Buenos Dias Cafe, isn't it? The Bon Jour was in Paris.

I think any one of the choices you mentioned and others would be great! I agree that Strasser IS Dorian but there are so few roles for women of this age, that this might be the only way someone can work. So I want to review the choices
I picked Anna Stuart too! The reason is that Strasser always plays Dorian with alot of humor. Most of the women on your list are not great humorists. Anna would bring a softer but no less effective version of Dorian.
One who uses her sexuality as a weapon. One who garners sympathy even while she is twisting the knife in your back!

Speaking of humor, Marj would be the perfect choice for humor. She can play over the top with the very best of them. She however is recast queen and I am tired of that.

Love me some Victoria Windom and would happily watch her read the phone book. Weakness would be that she would have trouble getting us to sympathize with Dorian. She lacks the humor. So we would either see her make Dorian nice or she would be evil incarnate.

Elaine Princi is a nice choice but there are alot of more charasmatic choices.

Brenda Dickenson.....? she got fired for being such a bad actress in a role she created...... hmmmm I am thinking no?

How about one more throw into the ring. Susan Seaforth Hayes. Funny, and able to make you cry at the drop of a hat. She easily handles heavy and light weight material. I would happily watch her every day!

Grimm, you got it. I think Kathleen Noone would be an excellent choice. Not only did she consistently and brilliantly show her acting chops as my girl Ellen Dalton on AMC, she was a FIERCE bitch on Knots Landing. Granted, she wasn’t Donna Mills but as Gregory Sumner’s devious sister Claudia Whittaker, she was a pretty damn good replacement. I would miss my Robin Strasser but Kathleen Noone, and those big eyes of her, could work it out as Dorian Lord.

BTW I am of the opinion that anyone can be recast. The problem is usually finding the right actor to do the recast.
evidenced by 3 sucessful recasts of Mason on Santa Barbara, 3 sucessful recasts of Vick/Marley on Another World, 3 sucessful recasts of Margo and Tom on ATWT, 3 recasts of Jill on Y&R, a recast of Jack on Y&R and many others. The problem is usually not IF we will accept the recast but who is the recast?

I am with the previous poster that said if they cant afford RS how on earth are they affording any of these other people. SHAME on ABC. If they cant pay her, fire stacy, rex, gigi, matthew's new god-awful doctor, and a partridge in a pear tree until you have what you need to sign her. GRRRRR

Not that DOOL would let her go, but I would love to see Lauren Koslow (Kate) in the Dorian role. If not Lauren, then Kim Zimmer.

If Days doesn't bring back Louise Sorel's Vivian to torment Carly and Robin Strasser does indeed walk, I'd like to see OLTL strike a coup and hire her.

Let me start by saying I DO NOT WANNA SEE STRASSER GO! I think she is Dorian Lord... but having said that I love the role of Dorian and feel OLTL is seriously lacking when she is not on the show. So for that reason alone I would be open to a recast. But not just any old recast-- this recast will have HUGE shoes to fill and this actress needs to have some serious acting chops!
Granted we are talking about ABC daytime - so Frons may make them recast Dorian with an actress in her late 30's! Case in point-- Liza Colby over at AMC!! Smile I just had to put that bad casting dig in!!!
I think all of Jamey's suggestions would be great. I especially like the idea of Anna Stuart or Louise Sorel. But some other actresses I think could pull off Dorian Lord may be Jane Elliot (if she ever left GH), Linda Dano (I know she was already on OLTL as Rae- but this is wishful casting), Kathleen Noone and Gilmore Girls Kelly Bishop!

Again I say I really want Strasser to stay, but if Erika S is resigning with the show (GOD I HOPE SHE IS) then OLTL needs to have Dorian on canvas!

I feel badly for Robin BUT I do not like it when these daytime actresses whine to their fans re: their lack of storyline or pay cuts. Seriously I think it shows their lack of professionalism. I mean we all have our issues in our work places BUT to cry about it to our "customers" is in such poor taste. I mean Robin does do this a bit-- the only other daytime actress who does this more then Robin is KIM ZIMMER!!!!!!!!!

I REALLY want Robin Strasser to say and hope and trust that she will, but if she must leave I think Anna Stuart would be excellent. Raquel Welsh would be interestesting and Kelly Bishop too, as mrs1107 mentioned.

I am from the school of thought that every part is recastable as long as the right actor is cast and Elaine Princi showed us that (while not Strasser she was good in the role).
I am a fan of Marj Dusay and if she can follow Beverlee McKinsey then she can follow anyone so she would be great in the role.
I do have to say that I am intrigued by an earlier comment about Maureen Garrett. She is a wonderful actress and she could probably bing a softer portrayal to Dorian but still keep her bite; she pulled it off brilliantly when she was playing Holly as a bitch following the reveal of Ross and Blake's affair.
