One Life to Live and B&B Surge; DAYS is The Biggest Loser Ratings-Wise

Several daytime soap opera executives are shooting off firecrackers this weekend over Nielsen ratings leading up to the Fourth of July holiday weekend. (Source: Soap Opera Network) ABC's All My Children gained the most total viewers for the week, adding 266,000 people. AMC added one-tenth of a ratings point in households and a whopping two-tenths of a ratings point among women 18-49. Hmm, maybe fans actually are tuning in for the Who Killed Stuart? debauchery? AMC's gains weren't enough for it to be named The Mouse House's top show of the week, however. That honor went to One Life to Live, which added 173,000 total viewers. OLTL went up one-tenth of a ratings point in households and held steady among women 18-49.  The Kishtastic soap is tied for third place in households with DAYS and holds the number 3 slot outright among total viewers (Hooty Hoo!) ABC Daytime's former crown soap General Hospital added 84,000 new viewers over the week, but is still the lineup's least watched soap. GH went up one-tenth of a point in both households and women 18-49.

Over at CBS, The Bold and the Beautiful is beginning to show signs of life again. B&B added 245,000 total viewers over the previous week and went up one-tenth of a point in households. B&B held steady among women 18-49. Big Sister Sudser The Young and the Restless added 88,000 total viewers to cross back over into the five million or more viewers a week average again (Whew!). Y&R went up one-tenth of a ratings point in both households and among women 18-49.

It was even a good week for the P&G soaps ratings-wise. As The World Turns added 173,000 total viewers for the week, going up in households and among women 18-49 by one tenth of a ratings point. ATWT is just below the once unstoppable General Hospital in total viewers and households. Guiding Light added 102,000 new viewers over the week to hold steady in households. GL did add one-tenth of a ratings point among the coveted women 18-49 demo.

The biggest loser, no pun intended, this week was Days of Our Lives. After weeks of ratings success, DAYS lost a whopping 317,000 total viewers. DAYS dropped two-tenths of a ratings point among households and dropped one-tenth of a point among women 18-49. Hmm, maybe all that greasy talking Ken Corday was doing in the last issue of Soap Opera Digest made people cut off their TVs? If so, that's a shame since DAYS hasn't been better in a long time. Someone find me that muzzle...

*It should be positively noted that all the soaps are up in total viewers year to date, save for General Hospital and the P&G soaps. GH has lost more viewers year-to-date than GL or ATWT.

AMC and B&B is horrible and people are watching these soaps? Glad that Y&R is up and GH is in sixth place. It is still terrible and their needs to be some firings like Frons, Guza and Phelps getting pink slips.

Isn't it premature to bow down to the popularity of Kish? Didn't OLTL have other stories going on last week? Rex learning about Stacey's deception? Star and Cole's attempt to gain support for their wedding? What about the build up of OLTL African-American Evans family?

As for Days decline, wasn't Days interrupted on several days because of tennis?

Also, you didn't note that Y&R scored 5 MILLION viewers! Take that haters!

In your face Y&R haters!!!
5 million viewers are great! Keep up the good work, may the 4.0 come back soon.

OLTL deserves it to be ABC highest-rated soap.

As for B&B ... I don't know from where they get their viewers. The soap got better because of Jackie and Owen but that's about it.

OLTL has been VERY good over the last few weeks. I'm not FF anything, even Stacy, because her day is coming!

Days was indeed hardly on. GH will be cancelled by March 2010.

Kishtastic? Love it, I might have to borrow that phrase! LOL And use the Kish fansite banner? Love you Jamey!! Although, I doubt OLTL's ratings bounce is due to Kish, I think it's too early to see a reflection one way or the other.

When are the GH honchos get it into their big, thick, useless heads that viewers are disgusted with mob stories. Get rid of these dunderheaded suits who are sabotaging any chance of improvement with their attitude that viewers have to be taught to like couples, that viewers memories of show history is meaningless because viewers are meaningless. With this attitude is it any wonder the show is bleeding viewers?

I know that without GH I will have no reason to watch ABC at all. ABC doesn't care about me. Why should I be one of their viewers?

How does B&B gain viewers with the usual fight for Ridge while Guiding Light barely goes up after the Bauer BBQ. I dont get it

Yay OLTL!!! I am very happy they're the top-rated ABC soap.

I think GH is showing a few signs of improvement, but months of crap storylines have deservedly taken their toll on the ratings...

Man! What the hell happened to GH? For that matter, what was up with DOOL's ratings this week? They usually been doing very good.

Look at the huge difference in ratings between Y&R and most other soaps. With the exception of the execrable B&B, most other soaps have half audiences half its sizes!

How does Brian Frons keep his job?

GH? Who cares, it's so boring?

BTW, I'm shocked that B&B's ratings have increased. The show sucks with the exception of its two supercouples Jackie/Owen's speedos and Pam/Donna.

It's so painful watching Ridge, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Grandmama (Stephanie), Cousin It (Brooke), and Lurch (Rick). Now, if only the Adams Family could take their schtick on the road out of L.A. for good.

Good for GL i'm glad people are watching the soap in its last days, the Bauer barbecue was a very good episode. I'm sad for Days thought thats the only other soap I watch I can't tell you how happy I am that OLTL is the highest rated soap on ABC suck on the GH!

This was Wimbledon week on DAYS, that´s usually the lowest rated week in entire year. Judging from that way the numbers are actually better than expected. Many times in past DAYS hit new all time low during Wimbledon.

Jamey, do you think that if Gloria monty and Doug Marland wasn't around to save GH and soaps in the 80s, would soaps still be around now?

There are a few other good stories on OLTL (the scraps they throw at Dorian, and the Jessica/Brody relationship). Too bad most of the main stories aren't better.

AMC and GH are so terrible now they must only go up because they can't go any lower.

B&B goes up because Y&R goes up.

I guess the "gay" storyline didn't scare off viewers. Clementine Ford isn't driving them away. Stuffed cats aren't doing the trick either. I'm curious to see if Bierdz's return has an effect on the ratings.

I love KISH. I cannot wait until this story gets moving. I also love Christian and Layla. Both of these couples are getting me to tune in daily.

The actress that plays Layla has something very special about her and is a wonderful actress. I am so happy OLTL is finally giving her something to sink her teeth into.

Jessica/Brody perfection, ditto Marko/Langston and Bo/Nora. I do not remember OLTL having this many couples I have been rooting for in a long, long time.

This is pretty great soap news.

The thing with B&B is that it doesn't matter what story they tell. whatever Y&R does, B&B follows suit. there is like a string attached between them. It's like a soap habit- watch Y&R, you watch B&B. Lol.

And, I just really wish that for once before it ends, GL would overtake World Turns. I mean, really. You can watch glorious vets and the Bauer BBQ, or Carly getting drunk, and trekking from one end of Oakdale to the other at lightspeed. Come on viewers!!

You know how I feel! Go Y&R!! (Now just do something for the for the brown folks and I'm sure the rating will go even higher!!)

Bierdz return didn't scare anyone away. I'm sure that for long time viewers, having Phillip and Nina return was happy treat!

This is one thing that Y&R does better than most other soaps. They bring back actors and use their vets so well. Actors in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and 80s have front burner stories. They aren't relegated to playing the doting parent or grandparent.

Katherine and Jill rule! Nina should become Genoa City's newest detective. She's fiercely intelligent, determined, and driven.
