Beth Ehlers Talks Greasy About Chuck Pratt and JR Martinez!
Beth Ehlers recently gave an interview to Stardish Radio that is setting the web on fire tonight! We Love Soaps' Roger Newcomb transcribed this pull quote where Ehlers goes hard against Chuck Pratt (deserved) and JR Martinez (not deserved):
As many times as I would casually try to go into my boss's office and say, 'Uh, you are going to start integrating me, right?' When you've been doing this as long as I've been doing it, you know how it's supposed to be done. But you can't tell you bosses that because it's like any other job in the world, you can't know more than your boss because they hate you for it. And so you have to be careful when you go in that you don't tell somebody how to do their job. And I wanted to scream at people. I wanted to go in and say, 'Hello, you're burying me here. You're making this really hard. First you give me somebody who, God bless him, I love J.R. but he's not an actor.' And so that's hard enough with somebody who...it's going to be a long time before he gets out of second gear. And I'm constantly having to hedge my performance cause I can't be doing Shakespeare while he's doing something else.
I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with Ehlers on Martinez. While I am not onset sharing scenes with him, from the comfy spot on my living room sofa, the talented, young war hero looks like a natural. Hell, if you can share scenes with Bonnie Dennison, you oughta be able to make anything work!
Martinez tweeted a response to Ehler's hateration:
Apparently there are rumors going around about Beth (Taylor) & J.R. (Brot) are having a feud between each other. C'mon peeps. were not. I simply didn't agree with her chose of words in her radio interview, I never expected her to coach me. Just give tips to help the s/l.

Chuck's been writing in a different medium for a while. Chuck's been doing primetime which is one episode a week. He's been doing a different genre entirely. He has not been writing soap operas. He's been writing camp basically and that's a whole different kind of thing. You don't have to commit to history. You don't have to commit to the gravitas in a situation when you write camp. Camp's all making fun of stuff. It's all broad comedy stuff. And so maybe he needed to be reminded that soap audiences don't take kindly to you messing with history. And even if you can't see the seriousness of a situation, they see it. And they want you to write it seriously. You're asking them to trust you, and soap audiences are very generous. They'll forgive you as long as they think you're taking it seriously and trying. If they feel like they're being, pardon me, f*cked with is when they get pissed off. He's clearly a talented writer and has a good resume. I hope the show can find it's way back on track.
Okay, now homegirl is preaching the gospel. Somebody pass the collection plate so we can pray that devil Pratt right outta Pine Valley!

I'd argue that the reason she hasn't been doing "Shakespeare" isn't because of Martinez but because the story hasn't been there. Even with Brot and Taylor's reunion. She's right, it's been nearly a year without them actually integrating her. Hopefully her scenes with Michael E. Knight are an indication of what's to come. He'll keep anyone on their toes.
Now that Taylor and Brot have ended their romantic relationship I really hope they aren't phasing his character out. JR Martinez is a real find.

What Ehlers said about Pratt is dead on, but I really don't like what she said about Martinez! If I remember correctly, I think she made a similar comment about JR when they appeared on The View together. I think she may just be frustrated and is lashing out, but JR was hired by a soap to act; therefore, he is an actor! The last time I watched AMC he had grown a lot and was pretty decent!
I am glad someone is coming out and speaking the truth against Pratt! Though maybe she is just upset that her former BFF Ricky Paull Goldin, who she followed to AMC, is now BFF's with his current on-screen love interest Chrishell Stause!

Well, isn't she bold. Heck, I would be too if I was Beth Ehlers and they gave me chicken shit writing everyday. As bad as things were at GL at the time, I still wish she wouldn't have left. But I guess that was one stone in the demise of My television love. I still want to curse Barbara Bloom, Ellen Wheeler, and the whole motley crew everytime I think of GL's cancellation.
And, it WOULD NOT surprise me if Beth Ehlers walks out of AMC soon.

Uggh, I hate Beth Ehlers so much, this is just gasoline to keep that fire going.
You should hear what she had to say about the Nielsens ratings. In her opinion they are not accurate (she might have a point there) because she gets recognized just as much on the streets now as she did before.
Got that Nielsen? That is what you have to do to get an accurate account of how many people watch a show. Poll all the daytime actors and see how many times people stop them on the streets.
What a joke, I can't stand her.

I'm all for actors keeping it real and speaking out about the bad writing and so on however, this makes a chick wonder... Wonder if Beth's really fed up or fed up and is trying to get fired on AMC on purpose. Speaking out about her regime is crazy, she ain't Eric B or Tony G that can pull that mess off. Hell she ain't Kim Z. I know Beth back in the day may have been on that level but not anymore after she decided to jump ship.

Hell, if anything, she just needs to get out of that sinking ship of AMC, and try some primetime. She's good enough.

Look, Ehlers has been working in soaps since she was 16. She knows what's she's doing. How frustrating must it be for her to have been a leading actress on GL and find herself lost in the shuffle and not acting with AMC's best actors?
It's a shame that more of AMC's actors haven't spoken out. That would provide Ehlers some kind of cover.
Unfortunately, I fear that Pratt will act like the Iranian supreme leaders and crack down on the dissenting voice.

Well I never really like BE's Taylor, but now I at least like BE! lol stick it to the idiot turbo-worshiping man girl! I don't agree with what she says about JR, I mean even if it's true in her mind, that's not something you say in the press. I just wish more of the cast would say something because I can't for a minute believe that she's the only one who thinks Pratt's writing is not the best...

She may have had a few good points where Pratt is concerned but My GOD this woman thinks she is queen. If her head were any bigger it would dominate all of ConFusion. Just the way she said some of the things she said in particular about Martinez I have to wonder where she gets her gall. It's called tact and this woman definately needs to find some in my opinion.

Let's be real. I was watching GL back in the day and guess what? BE was not always the cream of the crop. She didn't have any chemistry with Phillip and was just known for all those damn kids. How many actors in their career have carried her through scenes? Before Gus, Harley was just a pathetic woman with a litter of kids. She had no reason to knock JR. I know bad acting. He's not a bad actor.
Now with Chuck Pratt, I can't wait for him to silently moved off the show and onto a network where he belongs: ABC Family

The interesting thing about this is that Martinez made the story semi interesting. She's been the one who's been turning in disinterested performances for months. Her character was a mistake from the beginning. It had nothing to do with Martinez.

I've listened to her the show. I heard what she said. She's putting the blame on the wrong person. Martinez may not be a trained actor, but he had something that viewers appreciated. Most viewers I know were bored by Ehlers and the character of Taylor. She's acutely aware of everything else that went down and openly critical of others, but she's not as self-critical as she should be.
