Although Douglass Watson, the actor who portrayed the character of Mac Cory on Another World died when I was only 12-years-old, Mac and Rachel's (Victoria Wyndham) love affair on Another World remains one of my favorite soap sagas. Who could ever forget the sweeping romance between the dashing, silver fox, publishing magnate and the town tramp? Talk about taming the shrew!

 When I think of my childhood, I can't recall a time when Mac, Rachel and Rachel's loving-yet-bossy mother Ada (the late Constance Ford), weren't a part of my family's daily life. Actually, I was closer to the Corys  than I was some members of my own family, which is a fact I am sure all diehard soap fans can identify with. 

Passed down complete with vivid summaries of their 70's-era loving and fighting by my late grandparents, I became just as hooked on the lives and loves of Mac, Rachel and their various children: Iris and Sandy (Mac's from previous relationships), Jamie (Rachel's son with Steve Frame), Amanda (the only child they biologically shared), Matthew (the child Rachel bore Mitch Blake, whom she slept with to save Mac's life) and later  Paulina, Mac's love child who arrived in town years after his demise, as my elders had been before me, which is how and why soaps were so popular for so long. They basically turned the ancient oral tradition of generational storytelling into a visual medium passed down again and again. When soaps started forgetting about Grandma and Grandpa, they started dying. Thankfully there's always You Tube. All clips courtesy of FebWriter.
