BREAKING NEWS: Melody Thomas Scott WRITTEN OUT of Y&R!
Dang, it looks like Auntie Ri Ri and Uncle Paul really ain't playing over at The Young and the Restless! TV Guide Canada's Nelson Branco is reporting talks have completely broken down between the soap and lead diva Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman). The soap has gone so far as to reportedly script an exit for Scott, meanwhile a former co-star tells Branco that Scott fancied herself queen to Ed Scott's king during her hubby's reign as executive producer of the soap!
A former co-star tells The Suds Report that, “Mel thought she ran that show for years because her hubby, Ed [Scott], was the producer. Well, times have changed, and actors do not run that show anymore. She’s nuts if she thinks another soap can afford her. Mel is so tied to Nikki that she won’t get another soap gig, especially in these tough economic times.”
Okay, somebody get my 'pressure medicine. I can't take it! I know I make fun of her, but I simply cannot imagine my Young and Restless without Nikki Newman walking around all stuck up like she just sucked all the air out of a helium balloon. Seriously, can't y'all come to some kind of agreement? What is the point of paying Thad Luckinbill (Who I adore, but he's become pointless), Amelia Heinle, Judith Chapman and several others, when you can't afford La Nikki? In this day and age of soap operatic death, I would rather see a smaller group of old faves, than a bunch of people being paid to fill out a cast.
Who is Victor gonna yell at and remind how he found her on a stripper pole if Nikki isn't in town? Who's gonna remind Sharon what a gold digging tramp she is? Okay, well Phyllis, Mary Jane and now Chloe have that covered, so scratch that. Who's gonna say her children's full names at all times when she speaks to them in a high-pitched whisper/squeal? Who's gonna wear black furs in the spring? I tell you I can't take it! If not resolved to the fans liking, this could prove to be the Dream Team's first major eff up. Do whatever it takes to make it work and give us our Nikki! And Melody, you meet them half way! Do you want to be hosting radio shows with Deidre Hall? Huh, do ya'? I need to go lie down.

Well Im glad YR is not recasting. Maybe they all will come to terms at some point. But if this what MTS wants to do, I wish her all the luck in the world.

Oh, no, please, MTS, take the pay cut. We are in hard times and things is not getting better and at least you have a job, many are out of work or losing their homes and etc. MTS, please work at Y&R because you regret it. I hope that you save money for the long haul.

Y&R needs MTS, but she should be careful....viewers are fickle.....If GH coulda survived w/out Luke 'n Laura back in the day, viewers can forget about "Nikki"

The role of Nikki Newman is being played by Deidre Hall. She would kill in that role and her and EB would have great chemistry together. But I hope that MTS resigns with the show because we are in bad shape financially and the roles is drying up.

I love me some Nikki Reed Newman and cannot see anyone else in the role. So Mel, take the pay cut, Ed is currently unemployed so it is up to you to bring home the bacon, think of your family, think of us your fans and more importantly think of yourself. Look at Diedre Hall, after 30 years of loyal service SHE was shafted from Days without even the option of a paycut, your show actually respects you so show MAB and uncle Paul that you are worthy of their respect (as well as the respect of the fans) and take the pay cut.

I still don't get why in daytime a genre geared to women and its the women who have so far (that we know of) that have been asked to take pay cuts. As for Melody if she is financially stable and has been saving up over the years and doesn't care if she gets another acting gig then I say good for her. Now if she hasn't been then unfortunately take the pay cut.

I don't think MAB wants to do it, but with the recession and the ratings and the licensing fees cut, they have to make cuts somewhere and I do believe that everybody has to take a pay cut or walk. They have to do this to survive and be lucky that they have a job because many people are not working and would kill to work on Y&R for less than what they paying the vets.

Wow, I didn't know that, so they crying poor isn't making me feel bad because they still is making money, others don't have anything, not a job, or home and career and then they crying about a pay cut. I know that they are use to this salary, but things change and they have to go through the flow or don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Look MTS needs to stop! She should be glad she has had a career for over 30 years on the same soap. If she left now she would not be able to find a job that is on her level. Take the pay cut Melody or get the stepping. And don't let the door not hit you where the good lord split you.

They need newbies on the show to balance out the show's budget. Yes, they should have better casted, but regardless, the vets need to take pay cuts regardless of the talented newbies. You can play them more, for less.

Seriously though, MTS is in a DYING industry, that happens to be in a recession and in a bankrupt state. She really does need to take the cuts just like everyone else. Now if Eric don't take none...... I sure as hell wouldn't want to be him when someone was to give him a cup of water. He may just get the Celie special.

I want MTS as Beth Logan on B&B, as I wrote in another thread. She'd be "mom" again to Heather Tom...and to former "bad girl Grace Turner" Jennifer Gareis. She's spar with Don Diamont (Bill's trying to ruin the Logan girls) and with SUSAN FLANNERY. Comedy perfection, as these two STRONG rivals (finally!) direct the battles of their families.
It would work! Channel it into the universe!
