In the video preview of the first episode, Auggie (Colin Egglesfield) and Violet (Ashlee Simpson) are shown talking by the pool just after the discovery of a dead body. Auggie says that he met the deceased woman in AA and she inspired him to become a chef.

If the official CW press release which offers a description of the show, here’s what it says about the character of Auggie: “Sydney also played a pivotal role in the career of Auggie Kirkpatrick (Colin Egglesfield). After they met at an AA meeting, she became Auggie’s sponsor and encouraged his dream to become a chef.”
