Oprah Winfrey's Chicken Gate
By Jamey Giddens on May 06, 2009

Tell O' Colonel, let my chicken go! Poor Oprah Winfrey, my girl can't win one for losing PR-wise. First the beef producers tried to ruin her, then that James Frey made up that book and called it a memoir, now this. Oprah has ruffled the feathers of chicken lovers, by promising them free Kentucky Fried Grilled Chicken, via coupons on her website. The catch is, managers at KFC chains across the country are refusing to honor the coupons! Angry customers, hoping to grub on some bird, staged 1960's-style sit-ins today in several states (Okay people, it's really not that serious!). Just who do these managers think they are? They better ask Hermes! You don't mess with The Mighty O! By the time she's finished, no soccer mom in the country will ever so much as order a piece of dark meat with slaw from the Colonel AGAIN! Somewhere Gayle King is cowering in the corner in fear.

The coupons said at participating restaurants. That's standard legal copy for such things and their "out". Poor Oprah.

I was able to use my coupon! I used that bad boy last night as a matter of fact. See this is where some folks are in deep doo doo... Last night a guy ahead of me tried to use it and was denied so I was all ready to say, "Oprah said I can use this sucker hoe!" But I looked at his and saw the problem... Some folks are either printing them in black and white or photocopying the original. In the big bold letters it says.... NO PHOTOCOPIES ALLOWED! I was able to use my coupon that was printed and the guy in the front was sent packing! *LOL*

I said it on FB and I will say it here...recession or not it's not that serious! I still love my O. Now America get it together! Besides I prefer Popeyes and if I am in the south I prefer Bojangles.

I hate to post this comment but watching the You Tube clip about Popeyes running out of chicken b/c of that 4.99 special on an 8 piece bucket, all the folks complaining were black. Don't know if that's just playing into a stereotype of black folks and fried chicken, or what.

I also wanted to add, you have to give it up to Ms. O as she has a real big heart. Bless you!

I'm still gonna eat at KFC, Oprah backlash or not. Sit ins, do people not want to protest for things that actually matter.

Jillian, are you telling us that coupons not printed in color don't work? I don't have a color printer at work and printed them out yesterday and are NOT photocopied. After seeing your post today, I printed them at home in color just to make sure. So, will I get 4 free meals or just 2?
BTW, I've already tried the grilled chicken. It's good but not extra crispy good. LOL But I don't turn down free food.

I'm not Jillian, but I think I can answer you Jorpa. When they are printed, there is a watermark type thing that will NOT show up on the coupon if its copied, so the store will know its not an authentic original

Jorpa what I'm saying is that if u have them photocopies or printed in black and white ink only, is that KFC won't take them. I don't know anything about the watermark, the KFC I went to wasn't looking at any watermarks. I got one free meal.

Jillian, did you not get 2 coupons when you printed them out? I got 2 each time.
I've compared the two. The black and white copy has what appears to be a watermark on the expiration date. The color copy has a watermark under the description of what you get. I'll try with the b&w first. If it doesn't work, I still have 2 color coupons. I have 3 KFCs in my vicinity.
