Confirmed: Peter Simon Returns as Guiding Light's Ed Bauer
By Jamey Giddens on May 16, 2009
DC's Melodie Aikels was right again. Guiding Light is now confirming that Peter Simon is returing to the soap opera this June 23. Mel also reported that her sources told her Rick Hearst and Maureen Garrett could be reprising their roles as Alan-Michael Spaulding and Holly Lindsay respectively, however Hearst has since booked The Bold and the Beautiful. The actor admitted at a recent fan event that he and GL had been in talks, however a deal couldn't be reached. Still no official word on Garrett, but don't be shocked if some soap magazine or website that doesn't like to credit us "breaks" that soon.

Wouldn't it be gracious of The Bold and the Beautiful show runner Brad Bell to lend Hearst to Ellen Wheeler for two episodes or so, to have Alan-Michael reunite with his Uncle Ed for one last Bauer BBQ on CBS? I sure think it would.

Go Mel!
I am very glad GL is getting the Bauer family back together for one last time. I also hope Maureen is on board for a reappearance.

At least GL fans are getting favourites back for their final few months. We at Passions got Antonio. Yay.

Hey Antonio was HOT! So its safe to assume the last episode on CBS will revolve around the Bauer barbecue hopefully the whole cast will be involved.

I doubt the final will be the Bauer BarBQ because that happens in July. THe CBS final show is not until September 18, 2008.

This is great news for GL fans! While it sounds less and less likely that GL will go on past September, I thank the folks at GL who are bringing back fan faves to send GL out in style. I hope I am wrong about GL, but I just don't have the hope that I use to!

Hey Jamey - screw those rags that nobody reads anymore....I heard they are near bankruptcy anyway. I've gotten much more reliable soap news from you guys than any of those so-called soap rags. I'm excited that Ed wil return for the Bauer Bar-B-Q this year....hopefully with Holly in hand!!!!

How amazing would it be if Ed and Holly returned together and we learned they'd been a couple this whole time!
I'm not holding out much hope for RH due to his B&B gig, but I wouldn't mind Carl Tye Evans reprising the role. I really hope to see JvD back as Ross also, but that is seeming less and less likely.
Jamey and Mel - don't sweat the haters. If it doesn't happen on Y&R or GH, they don't know what to say.

That is great, Peter Simon is the ONLY Ed to me. And to see him again will be great. It does sound like they are pulling out all the stops. Sadly, I am starting to feel like some posters, in that I am not feeling as hopeful as I did about GL finding a new home. Just more time keeps passing and nothing is being said. The ratings are the same if not worse, and GL only got 4 Emmy nods. Doesn't sound like that would inspire much confidence in a potential cable channel picking up the show.

*doing the happy dance*
I haven't missed a Bauer BBQ yet, and if this is the last one, I hope this will be the biggest, splashiest one yet! I would love to see flashbacks showing H.B. Lewis, Henry Chamberlin, and Roger Thorpe. And wouldn't it be grand if Jerry Ver Dorn could come back as Ross and give the last toast.
Oh crap, now I'm crying again...

I love those bauer BBQ's because when Danny was first married to Michelle they used to so awkward for him. Plus for some reason, Alan would always show up in a bad mood and saying smart comments. haha good times good times.

Oh, I can't wait for this years Bauer BBQ. There will actually be Bauers this year.
I sure hope Ric Hearst returns even if it is only for one episode. Please Brad Bell let him come, I might even start watching your show!
Don't sweat the haters Jamey, we all know where to come if we need real scoop on the daytime industry and it ain't SOW.

I don't think that the lack of Emmy nods would play into a decision as to whether to pick up the show. It all comes down to a cost/benefit analysis: can GL bring enough new viewers to a cable network and, if so, what will it cost to get them there? Perhaps the remedy lies in altering the number of days the show is on or moving to a half hour? All soaps should be pulling for GL to get picked up because I fear that soaps are not in the long range plans for the broadcast networks. They can get a bigger bang for the buck with cheap game shows or talk shows.

God Josh's hir was worse then Reva's back then. Days gave Lauren Koslow to B&B for two shows in 2005 so B&B and OLTL can give us RH and JVD for a few days if needed. Im not giving up that GL will find a new home.

I read in one of the magazines that there is a less than 1% chance of GL finding a new home. I hope that isn't right. I get more breaking news from this website than all the other websites and magazines out there. They have some incredible source's on this website and I look foward to seeing it pop up on my computer every night.

That clip was sooooo depressing! All those extras! Vets! And here we thought soaps had no money back then! They were rolling in it.
