Why is Anthony Geary still being shoved down our throats as Lead Actor? GH is the Sonny and Jason show. Let's face it, Steve Burton is on almost everyday and he does deserve to be pre-nominated over Anthony Geary.

I'm so happy for Elizabeth Hubbard! She totally deserves it! I only watch ATWT so I'm biased but I don't really care.
I'm also glad Van Hansis is pre-nominated in Supporting Actor. I wonder what his chances are in that category.
I'm not really impressed with Mick Hazen's acting (he's not bad, but just not what I like), so I'm a little bummed that he made the list and Jake Silbermann didn't.

WTF why is Jason not nominated, and what about Patrick?
How about Michael for younger Actor?

How the he!! does Anthony Geary get a nomination with the crap that is written for him? And he is hardly on enough to be considered a lead actor anymore. Other than that I think the choices were good.

There is no way that Alicia Minshew is a supporting actress...she pretty much carries the show. Bobbie Eakes and Alicia should have traded places.

Jacqueline MacInnes Wood and Ron Moss, is there no God?
I hope Bruce Weitz gets a nom.
As for the debate about Anthony Geary, even with the little he is given, he gives great debth and emotion. Let's face it, Steve Burton has been playing Jason the same non-blinking way for years, it ain't much. I know I'll get flamed for that. I do think Patrik, can't recall the actors name at this moment, deserved to be up there, totaly dissed.
Why is Thorsten Kaye up there?

Also, glad Tams is up even if it is for Days, she was great. And I meant Patrick, ugh.

Oh... I know I raised an eyebrow at some of these choices for ATWT. I love Liz, but there's no way she's a lead actress. Lucinda's cancer was a plot device and the Brian arc wasn't really about her. Still, I'd rather see her there instead of someone like Marie Wilson.
And Grayson McCouch? Really? Over Jon Hensley or even Roger H.? I guess they're honoring one note performances now.
I can't argue with the rest of the choices, though Van really has no shot in supporting actor, IMO. I'm also glad to see Billy and Mick in younger actor. With Van in supporting and Jesse Lee Sofer gone, it's good that someone can carry on in that category.

I still can't believe that Trevor St. John (Todd) was not nominated. He was easily the best actor on OLTL and arguably the best in daytime in 2008. I guess it really should not suprise me, considering he should have won the lead actor award for his work in 2006 (Execution Storyline), and he was not nominated that year either.
I love Anthony Geary but the last year that he deserved a nomination was in 2006 for the Laura returns story. In 2007 and 2008 he really hasn't had any good material to sink his teeth into.

Did Trevor submit a tape? If so, I think he should defintely be there, rather than ME.
I'm pleased with the AMC ones. So happy for Jacob. I'm surprised AM is in the supporting category, but maybe she thought she would have a better chance that way? as much as I enjoy VI (not his character, but his acting), I think Aiden Turner should have been acknowledged.

They should really redo these catagories here. I mean, Frankie (AMC) in the same catagory as Mathew (OLTL)! Gigi (OLTL) in the same catagory as Starr (OLTL). It should be Best Young Adult Actor/Actress and Best Child/Teen Actor/Actress. And I'm in agreement with Anthony Geary (GH). He's not even on enough anymore on GH and it's mostly Jason and Sonny on the show. And I also agree that they should switch Alicia and Bobbie's catagories. Alicia carries AMC.
And even thou I don't watch B&B, I do read the blooper things DC posts on here. Ron Moss prenominated?!? The guy needs acting classes.
I swear, who decides these catagories and actors/actresses!?!

Isn't this all a big populariaty contest with the pre-noms? That is the only way to explain the likes of Ronn Moss, Jacequeline MacInnes Wood, Molly Burnett, and Bonnie Dennison being on this list. I mean, WTF were the actors thinking? Is this a joke?
I am so happy Van Hansis of ATWT got a nom for supporting actor. But it's Tuc Watkins year--he's the golden boy of daytime right now (and he's great).
I don't think Trevor St. John submitted his name this year for consideration, but I could be wrong.

The categories are defined by the National Association of TV Arts and Sciences (NATAS). Actors and producers usually decide whether an actor gets nominated as lead or supporting (or younger if the actor is under 25, the cut off for that category).
As for the actual choices, each show chooses its own pre-nominees, so there's obviously going to be preferences from cast members and producers in their choices. Some have been critical of the system; Victoria Rowell had commented that she got snubbed for a nomination as Y&R's Dru because she wasn't in favor with the cast and staff at the show. The Academy adopted the pre-nominee rule as an attempt to limit how many actors got nominated in each category, since some shows used to dominate the nominations under the old system where producers submitted a nomination list of all the performers on their show and then all eligible Academy members chose the top 5 in each category.

TSJ said on his website that he submitted his name this year because many fans were pushing for him to do it. He also submitted his name for his 2006 work for the same reason because usually he does not. Its to bad, he was really good this year and I think he kind of proved to the RH fans that he can go really dark and was an excellent recast.

Good. I'm not the only one. I would have felt embarrassed if I was.
And Alicia Menshew as supporting actress is a joke. Who is she supporting? That's like putting Jeanne Cooper in the outstanding younger actress category. It time for Alicia or whom ever chose to put her in that category to grow a pair. You can't be on that much and not be pre-nominated in the lead category. It's ridiculous.

Alot of the usual suspects for on this list! But there are some glaring omissions: Melody Thomas Scott(Nikki, Y&R), Eric Braeden(Victor, Y&R), Trevor St. John(Todd, OLTL), Melissa Fumero(Adrianna, OLTL), and Mandy Bruno(Marina, GL).
I'm not even going to mention the Younger Actor Categories! those have been in shambles for years and this year is not exception! Well maybe a few deserve to be theere but some of them are absurd!

Well, once again I find myself scratching my head at about 85% of these but I guess I should be used to it by now. I think it really stinks that Trevor St. John isn't on the list. I would rather watch his multi-layered, complicated performance of Todd over Michael Easton's whiny, brooding John McBain any day!

Don't get me wrong, I love Tony Geary's portrayal of Luke Spencer, but what has he done this year (2008) to warrant a nod?
And Maurice Bernard? No way! Despite his supposedly great story lines and dialogue, he still phones in his performance as Sonny Corinthos, the mobster with a heart.
Steve Burton, whose name is missing from the list? As mentioned in one of the earlier posts, absolutely nothing new.
Sarah Brown? Not if I have anything to say about it -- which, unfortunately, I don't. Too bad she was brought back as another negative character. I'm sure the actress has more to her than murderous bitch.
Laura Wright? Hate Carly but love the actress. I would love to see Carly cast in a more positive light, a redemption as is being done with Maxie.
K. Storms -- of course! Very deserving.
Bradford Anderson -- another of course! Now it's time for the writers to let Spinelli grow up so the viewers can see what a powerhouse actor Anderson is.

Poor Melody Thomas Scott, they gave it to that Better Davis impersonator over her?!

Somebody please try to remind me why I was so anxious and excited to see these things.
Why are Lauren Koslow & Renee Jones lead actresses? Really? Seriously? They deserve supporting nominations, if anything. BUt I am glad that Arianne Zucker got on the list. Some justice. And Peter Reckell too.
And why is Rachel Melvin nominated? She is a terrible actress? Kristen Renton would have been a better choice.......

Im sorry, but I just had to register after seeing these prenoms to voice my disgust with GH.
It's a shame that these Emmy awards have become nothing more than a glorified popularity contest. I mean come on, Tony Geary and Sarah Brown as leads? Is TPTB banking on their familiarity with the academy voters? Is it really just about wins over substance?
Im not a huge fan, but I think Megan Ward deserves to be in that 2nd slot...she was on more and was truly more 'Lead' than Sarah Brown.
And as for Lead Actor...Steve Burton, hands down.
Supporting...where are Kimberly Mccullough and Jason Thompson? They were apart of, IMO, the only saving grace storyline of 2008?
And Carolyn Henessey? If you are gonna pre-nom the woman, give her a contract already!
I am happy however, with Kirsten Storms, Bradford Anderson, Rebecca Herbst, and Laura Wright, but everyone else not so much.
On another note...Where's Ali Sweeney on DAYS' list?

Wow! Where the hell is Megan Ward???? I mean if you are going to nominate Maurice Benard ... surely you could give a nod to his screen partner 95% of the time last year. I get the LW nomination with Michael's shooting. Props to her but SJB - give me a F#$#ing break! She bounced around with no real place all last year and she gets the nod. I truly hope another network takes this category.
And, another thing, great point by many of you, where is Kimberly? Robin had an impressive role especially at the tail end of last year.
Luke - Tony Geary, PLEASE???!!!!

DAYS rant here:
Thaao Penghlis for lead? Didn't have a storyline all year long. He's supporting at best. Love the actor, but he was sorely mistreated on this show ever since he came back. The only reason he got a nomination was because he somehow got one last year and I attribute that to Edward Scott, not anyone associated with the show now. I'm surprised he's considered being that he's going to be killed off by the show...yet again.
Blake Berris? I think Blake got it because they really have no other male actor to qualify for this category. Good actor, but he's had no real storyline. His exit storyline was just lame and made me hate Melanie even more.
As for Tamara, she's not even on the show anymore. Great job, I'm just surprised she was nominated. I think it's more because they really didn't have anyone that had the material to be here (Mary Beth Evans is phenomenal, but had no material). Congrats to her because I love the actress.
Renee Jones didn't do anything spectacular. She is too melodramatic for my personal taste. When she lost Theo, I couldn't sit through it because I was annoyed with her acting. It should and would have been done so much better had James Reynolds been given the chance to act.
Did Molly Burnett warrant any sort of consideration for an Emmy? She cannot act! She's been horrible since day one. The only reason she's possibly considered is because Corday is shoving her down our throats. This show has become such a joke, I don't even know why it's still standing.
So really, the only ones I think who should get a nomination is Tamara Braun. Sad. But that's what I describe the show so I'm not surprised.

i really think Melody Thomas Scott should be somewhere on that list
