Daytime Confidential Top 20, February 2009

Welcome to the Daytime Confidential Top 20 for February 2009. Each month we publish a ranking of daytime's current and past actors, journalists and personalities based on Daytime Confidential.com reader interest and clicks. This month, for the first time in Daytime Confidential Top 20 history, a male actor will claim the No. 1 ranking.

No. 20: Crystal Chappell – Guiding Light

Crystal Chappell makes her Daytime Confidential Top 20 debut on February’s list. It shouldn’t come as a surprise considering the PR push to promote Otalia and the resulting interest in Guiding Light’s lesbian couple. Guiding Light also made its best showing on the DC Top 20 in February, with three stars earning spots on the ranking. Ironically, Chappel’s on screen love interest Jessica Leccia didn’t make the list.

No. 19: Beth Ehlers – All My Children

Beth Ehlers returns to the Daytime Confidential Top 20 after falling off the list in January. When the Daytime Confidential Top 20 first debuted in 2008 Ehlers was in the midst of leaving Guiding Light and joining All My Children. It helped her earn her highest DC Top 20 ranking at No. 2, but since then she experienced a steady decline in popularity among Daytime Confidential readers.

Why is it ironic that Jessica Leccia didn't make the list? She is a relative newcomer, but she is doing an outstanding job in the current storyline. Jessica Leccia will have much recognition in the near future I'm sure!

it's about time crystal chappell made this list. and her ranking is only gonna go up over the next several months. she is embroiled in the best storyline on daytime right now over on GL and it is so about to get better. the angst is about to be turned up to an 11 for otaliaholics! as for jess, her time is coming, especially if she continues to match chappell stride for stride like she has been for the last several months.

more. crystal. we want it!

The only surprise in seeing Crystal Chappell's name on this list is how long it took. She has been giving an acting class over at Guiding Light for almost 10 years now and she keeps getting better. Crystal's rich and textured portrayal of Olivia has always been a joy to watch but this new storyline is bringing Olivia to a new level of understanding and awareness. Jessica Leccia has been doing a very good job going to-to-toe with a pro like Crystal and I'm sure she'll make this list too.

Kudos to GL and to Crystal and Jessica for their outstanding work and commitment to this storyline.

I guess the fact GL has the lowest ratings has something to do with Crystal or any of their actors not getting hits. The fact John Driscoll is number two is kind of amazing. It may just be a bit superficial as well. He was not the best part of his story. That honor would go to Justin Deas. He's older though and hunks get the hits I guess. I suspect Chappell and Laccia will get on this list next month and it will be high on the list. That'll come due to the recent print publicity of Otalia by mainstream media. Really though, I don't get why Crystal is seemingly so unassuming. She's not super young anymore, but she is super sexy and she is really good (not that this fact really matters).

damn, just put the WHOLE COLUMN/STORY on ONE PAGE-- What's up with that RETARDED Next Page/Number links you have to click to get to next actor, then have to scroll up/down to get it in window! Make me not even want to read it!! I'm Out!

- What is going on with this site lately?

First you guys go koo koo for cocoa puffs with Nighttime show coverage then get back on track again with Daytime shows then DISS Marlena/Connie Passalacqua with your stupid coalition.

BACK TO THE SUBJECT at Hand: This format you guys use is annoying and cumbersome and anytime that this particular type is used (where we have to scroll pages upon pages to read a post/blog/column/article) we (as readers) are discouraged from reading it! It isn't worth the hassle and its JUST RIDICULOUS!

I am a returning viewer of GL thanks to Otalia, which is the best love story I have seen in all my 30 odd years of watching daytime. And Crystal Chappell is a huge reason for its success. I expect to see her on this list from now on. The other reasons being Jessica Leccia and the wonderful writing of this s/l. I expect Jessica will be on this list very soon. The two of them are creating some of the most memorable and watchable moments ever aired on tv.

The press is starting to take notice beccause there is actually something worthy of their attention. There is a reason fans are devoting their time and energy to promote this storyline. There is a reason people who don't normally watch daytime soap operas are tuning in to see what all the fuss is about, and staying tuned in to see more.

This is an exciting time for Crystal, Jessica, Guiding Light and daytime viewers!

I kinda have to agree with melliebabi. I would read the whole list if were all on one page (or max 5), but I'm not going to bother.

Could you not have found a better picture of Tamara Braun?

About time Chappell made the list. I don't really understand how they count. If there is one article that mentions four actors, does that count as one view for each actor? If Daytime Confidential does 10 articles for General Hospital mentioning several actors that would get more views than 1 or 2 mentioning Leccia or Chappell.

How about the Hot 100! Joe Penny is listed? He was on DOOL for what, a week and a half 9 months ago? How can he be listed and not Crystal Chappell? I don't get it.

I'm not for sure, but I hear SOD and SOW strongly slant towards GH, Y&R, and DOOL. I think those are the most popular soap mags and I'm sure their website is doing really well. They have much more influence to this list than any article on DC. If Crystal was still on DOOL, that show would probably look alot different, but also would mean Crystal would probably be where Deidre Hall is at now on the list (not fired).

Finally some props for Crystal Chappell! She was so mesmerizing in EVERY-ONE-OF-HER-SCENES last year and this year too. I hope her inexcusable emmy snub starts off a groundswell of support and recognition. She is, in the words of the great Olivia Spencer, a "Freakin Superhero."
