BLIND ITEM: Will a Usual Soap-spect Soon Be Helming a Pair of Troubled Soaps?
By Jamey Giddens on March 25, 2009

Spotted: A veteran network daytime executive interviewing for a position with a network whose soap lineup is in trouble. The former exec-in-question has quite the controversial reputation. He or she alllegedly left her last post due to constant clashes with the executive producers of the soap operas under his or her jurisdiction.

This exec never made it easy for fans to to like him or her. The person was known for slashing veteran contracts and making insensitive comments in the press when beloved actors were forced off one of his or her soaps. So riddle me this: What would be the point of bringing yet another Usual Soap-spect back into the fray? One soap was already cancelled under this person's watch. Isn't the daytime lineup of the network that reportedly interviewed this individual already receiving enough bad press? Why do something else to make fans, for a lack of a better word, angry?

Enough of the recycling of people behind the scenes! These people go from soap to soap bringing the same problems with them.
This industry needs to fresh blood. It's desperate for it. If daytime soaps are going to continue (and even flourish), we need some NEW people behind the scenes.

Get a Ron C. like someone forever who loves the industry and knows the history to be a head writer like Ron was. Still with the recycle hacks and get someone new and good in the industry to save it. Let the fans be the writers. We are way better than most of the writers today.

Sounds like Brian Frons may be getting replaced. Clue: Soap got canceled during his time?
Answer: Port Charles
Maybe they are talking to Angela Shapiro???

ITA, OldGHFan!
We all know that the network in question is ABC. Why would Frons want to force another idiot upon us? Recycling old fools behind the scenes does nothing , but piss us off more and it's no good for the show. At least go back and get a good EP/HW that gave us good soap back in the day.

Could it be Mary Alice Dwyer Dobbin that was in charge of Proctor and Gamble soaps? Another World was a P&G soap that was cancelled. And she said insensitive things like when the late Michael Zaslow got his disease that they didn't want Roger to be a wizened old man.
I agree with OldGHFan, why recycle these people especially if they have ruined other shows during their reign (like the horrible Megan McTavish). Sounds like the execs and writers are in a group that takes care of each other.

I agree w/ blake3b, it sounds like MADD to me. Her comments about MZ leaving were out of line but no worse than his actual firing. She admitted tactlessly that he was out b/c of his disease.
But what shows? the title says the exec may be put in charge of 2 soaps? Why only two? Is ABC canceling one and trying to improve/destroy the other two?
I'm sure it's safe to say NBC isn't launching another soap, though if they did I'm certain it would be troubled.
If it's CBS is the exec for the Bell soaps or the P&G? I could see them leaving the Bell soaps to the Bells and focusing on GL & ATWT but aren't they still heavily controlled by P&G?
The blind item wouldn't be counting P&G as a network, right?
Or is the wording just tricky? He/She will "Be Helming a Pair of Troubled Soaps" (plus one or two other soaps)?
Well done this blind item leaves me sufficiently blind.

======================================
Huh? She didn't want the character to be a wize old man? I don't get it.

wizened: to become dry, shrunken, and wrinkled often as a result of aging or of failing vitality.

FYI- "Wizened" is NOT the same as WISE..not at all.
wizened |ˈwizənd; adjective
shriveled or wrinkled with age : a wizened, weather-beaten old man.
adjective
their wizened faces said much about the hard lives they had endured wrinkled, lined, creased, shriveled (up), withered, weather-beaten, shrunken, gnarled, aged.
This was an absolute total slam on Michael Zazlow's illness. I was infuriated when I heard about this. At least OLTL took him back & had him on the show and incorporated his illness into the storyline.

Please say this is not CBS. Riley is dead so it couldn't be him. I am guessing and *hope* that this is ABC.

That HAS to be Mickey Dwyer Dobbin interviewing for a position at ABC. (Or, far less likely, NBC.)

It’s been my fondest wish for the longest time to hear or read of Brian Frons’ being fired and replaced but from the sound of Jamey’s blind item, I don’t know if I would want this other person to be heading ABC Daytime. That is if we’re talking ABC Daytime.

As long as it's Frons out I don't think I 'd care who replaced him, especially if they 86 Guza with him

blake3b is right - this reeks of "MADD". And she was absolutely horrid to Michael Zazlow (I believe along with Paul Raush?) when they forced him out of GL.

Is this a giveaway that it is a "her" or a typo lol? Makes me think for sure that it is MADD. As much as I want changes for the PGP soaps, I sure hope she is headed to ABC if it's her, since no thanks, don't want her back!

Hey don't push her (MADD) on us, we have enough bad luck already. I hope it heads to CBS; ABC is already being brought down from within slowly.

I still think Frons is gone
Last week all abc shows were on hiatus and there was a huge production meeting about ABC Daytime
Also it says to help a pair of shows what if that means that since one life is creatively high now that this new person's first business is to fix AMC & GH even though they will be overlooking all three shows
The more i think about it Mary Alice Dwyer Dobbin is coming to ABC and the soap cancelled when she was at P&G was Another World

I wouldn't wish MADD on any network or show! Not only what she did to Michael Zaslow, but what she did to GL under her reign and her love for Bradley Cole (Jeffrey, GL).

Please, please, PLEASE let it be Brian Frons. Get this clown out of ABC daytime.

I hope it's Fron's head that's rolling and SOON...the ABC Daytime trees are oversaturated thanks to him.
Just a thought...ABC or Soapnet, etc. should do a reality show to find daytime writers. I've read some fanfic stories on different online sites, and there are a LOT of talented fans out there who could participate.

I had watched GL since I was a kid--but when they did that to Michael Zaslow--I stopped watching that show. I didn't know that it was someone from the executive level of the network that did that do him.

Oh please, please, please, let it be Frons & his henchman, Guza.
Jamey, whoever he or she is,(from your description, he or she sounds like the devil incarnate), ASSUMING IT IS FRONS & SINCE I AM NOT FAMILIAR WITH MADD, would we be better off than what we are stuck with now on abcd in the long run ???
Am I Cold, Warm, or getting Hot??? Jamey, why must you toy with us? You tease! LOL

MADD had a good reputation when she was at ABC, didn't she? Or did she not?
She was awful at P&G. I still remember when she went along with firing Allyson Rice Taylor and replaced her with the totally miscast Susan Batten.

MADD also had to deal with P&G suits higher than her pushing her to do stupid stuff to modernize those old creaky soaps, I think she had to bear the brunt of the backlash.
Having said that, it was very hateful what she said about Zaslow.
But all things considered, MADD would be better for ABC than Frons. Hands down.
I'd tell ABC to hire her.
