Could Thorsten Kaye be Leaving Pine Valley?

I personally have never had anything more than a tolerance for the character of Zach, but i know alot of people love Zendall so if Kaye was to leave AMC it would be another blow to the show. It seems like we hear a couple times a year though that Zach might be leaving so i wouldn't get into a huge frenzy yet Zendall fans.

True... he's been rumored to be leaving a few times. This could be a little negotiation technique. Leak that there's an impasse and rile up the fans.

I like Thorsten as an actor and would love to see what he would do on Y&R, but I HATE Zach. He is such a sanctimonous prick! He planned to kill Kendall's own brother and expected it not to affect her. Zach is right up there with Victor Newman as one of the most obnoxious SOB's in daytime.

I'd prefer he go back to OLTL. After Zach started giving his sperm to lesbians behind his wife's back I lost interest in the character. Has the identity of Nadya Suleman's babies daddy been released, yet?

I want him as a new love interest for Ashley Abbott. An old boyfriend who went to school with her and Liv. or a corporate raider who starts buying up shares of Fenmores putting him in Lauren's orbit!

AC the same person Kaye is having to negotiate with at AMC will face him at OLTL, Fronsie Pie, and he's telling people take the cut or else. Basically if Thorsten wants to stay at ABC Daytime he will have to take a paycut like the rest of the gang. Ain't nobody trying to hear any actors acting a fool about contracts with the industry in the state it's in.

If it came down to it, not that it ever would, i would gladly lose Kaye if it somehow took Mathison with him lol. Also remember back a couple months ago when we heard reports that Alicia Minshew's contract talks were going south? She def. didn't leave and the vacation did her good, her new icey Kendall is refreshing in my opinion. Maybe Kaye should take a vacation, run off to paris w/Bianca to take care of Gabrielle while Reese lingers in PV or something. I'm sure Zendall fans would rather have a apart-for-a-while than a done-for-good.

I hate Zach! And I never got the whole "Zendell" love, but I give the show credit, the are the supercouple of that show. I would like him to go back to OLTL as Patrick, b/c I've heard so many great things about him on that show and I loved Thorsten on PC so that would give me a connection to Patrick.

It would be unprecedented for ABC to take an actor from one soap as one character, and immediately put him onto another soap as another character.

You'll notice whenever stars go to a sister soap as a different character, there's usually a gap of at least a year. Robin Mattson played Janet on AMC and Heather on GH, but there was always a long gap between. Scott Clifton went from being Dillon on GH to Schuyler on OLTL, but again, there's a long gap. Reese on AMC used to be Carly on GH, but...

The brain trust at ABC daytime thinks it would be too confusing for viewers to accept a character switch with the same actor.

So this sheds some light on things....I am a huge Zach/Zendall fan. This is totally in keeping with ABC's take on contract negotiations - have the character doing all these loathesome things just before the contract neg. I dont know why they keep doing this - they did this with Melissa Archer on OLTL a few years back and with Kelly Monaco's Sam just as two huge examples and I would argue that neither has fully recovered from the damage with fans. They way they have written Zach has been dreadful the last few months. I could see him being capable of shooting someone to save kendall, but there is no way I buy that his character would have donated sperm and not first consulted his wife, esp. since they were talking a lot at the time about Kendall making decisions and taking action unilaterally. Sloppy writing.

Of course, too, you know if he goes, we will be 100% guaranteed to see a revisitation of Rendall.

Carolyn Hinsey is practically Thorsten's publicist, so I think it's a shame that he's using her "real news" as a negotiating ploy. Of ABC screwed things up again by having the show revolve around Zendall (losing me in the process) so the blame is solidly on them if they lose him and the show begins to trip over itself to recover from the loss...or fire half the cast to pay him.

AMC losing Thorsten Kaye would be a blow they could not recover from, especially with the state the show is in now. Their ballyhoo'ed "groundbreaking wedding" mustered a measely 1.8 rating for last Friday after an enormous amount of publicity. The show is on a downward spiral and it can't lose an integral and vital player like Thorsten. For me, no Thorsten or Alica, I'm not watching. Those two make the show for me and I won't accept one without the other.

I like Zach and Kendall. They are a great couple, but Zach needs to lose once in awhile, seriously, he's becoming Pine Valley's VIctor Newman and characters like that grate on my nerves after awhile. As for the actor, I agree with whoever said losing him would be a huge blow to the show, simply because the chose to write so much of it around him, that being said, no one is gonna feel these actors showing out about money right now. Not when Lucci, Michael Knight, Peter Reckell and Kristian Alfonso all had to take cuts and Deidre Hall, Drake Hogestyn, Thaao Penghlis, Stephen Nichols, Mary Beth Evans and Don Diamont have all been fired. AMC could easily bring Diamont on to fill Thorsten's void. These actors better play their cards right. It's harder out there for a soap actor than it is a pimp.

Very good points, Jamey, but the only thing I would suggest is that we shouldn't assume the stalemate is just about money. As we recently saw with Alicia, she wanted a good chunk of time off for her honeymoon, so that factored into her new deal. I'm not saying it's not about money, but it's possible that it's not.

Having said that, I agree with you completely that in the present climate, holding out for money not only appears arrogant, it's pretty damned stupid. No one is irreplaceable. If Deidre Hall can go, so can Susan Lucci.

On the other hand, if I were a daytime drama star negotiating a contract at this time in soap history, I would seriously have to consider whether I want to be a part of an industry that's obviously in its dying days. Do I want to risk having the stench of death on my career by staying with a show until the all-too-bitter end? It's not as though there's a great tradition of soap stars springboarding from a cancelled soap into something bigger and better.

I think its negotiation bs but if he's leaving PLEASE go to GH and hook him with Megan Ward! The Fashionista needs herself a new man!

To me there are just some characters/actors this show cannot expect to survive without, those being: Susan Lucci, Michael E Knight, David Canary, Debbi Morgan, Darnell Williams, and Alicia Minshew maybe. When it all comes down to it, if these characters left the show it would be such a blow i don't think the show would recover. A character like Zach is important to the show, but not so much that it would cause the show a death blow.

While I want to agree with you, wbl_amc, you defeat your own argument. AMC survived just fine for 20 years without Debbi and Darnell, and while I think it's a brilliant move to have them back they are not irreplaceable.

However, they have set up Zach to be such a pivotal player, he can't really be replaced right now. He's required because Ryan has a vendetta against HIM. He's required because Kendall's anger and angst is all centered around HIM.

Last week, Ravenbeauty reported a rumor that someone big (a beloved character) on the AMC canvas is being targetted for departure by tptb. My hunch is that it's Tad. Just look at how his place on the show differs from Zach's:

Tad has this battle with David, but really it's not being played as David against Tad. It's David against the Martins. If Tad were to go, Jake and Joe and JR would all be there to take up the slack. Also, David has ticked off Jesse by messing with Angie and Frankie's careers. So Jesse could easily take front and center.

Also, if they wanted Tad to be more center stage, they would have played out the custody battle with Krystal. Everything around Tad is being tied up too neatly too quickly. I think the rumors we've been hearing about Cady coming back may just be a short-term appearance so she and Tad can be seen wandering into the white light together, thereby giving T&D fans a happy ending (of sorts, in the afterlife).

Others on my favorite message board have suggested Raven may have been talking about Adam or Jackson, and that might be correct, too, but I'm seeing so many signals that Tad is being poised for an ouster that I think there's a bullseye on his back from the executives upstairs.

The way things are going, sadly, I don't think anything is going to save the inevitable demise of this genre. A few years ago, Susan Lucci's departure would be unthinkable. That was before Deirdre Hall. I hope AMC takes a higher road than DAYS and not give her an unceremonious heave-ho, but let's be honest. No one is safe anymore.

Even so, if ABC thought Thorsten was truly thinking of leaving, they wouldn't have just launched this Ryan vs. Zach storyline.

I'll agree with you on the way tad is being written, but im not saying from just a storyline point of view that it would hurt the show to lose those actors/characters, im saying if Tad was to leave it would take a pretty big chunck of viewers with him. Also agree that the show did survive w/o Angie/Jesse but now that they are back they would risk losing another big chucnk of viewers. If they want to save some $$$ they need to cut off the extra apendages that are bleeding them dry of money. Characters that, while are useful in SL's with the core families, we can live w/o. Characters like Taylor, Brot, Reese if she isn't with Bianca in the future, sadly Annie (MCE is a excellent actress and is one of my favs.), Aidan (another one of my favs.), and Carmen. These people don't have very strong ties to the canvas of the show, and while i love alot of their characters if it came down to it, i would rather see them go then the whole show.

As for Zach, it's kinda the same way. I mean, yeah they set him up for a SL w/Ryan, but he was never a memeber of any of the core families, and if Kaye were not to renew his contract i really don't think it would hurt the show horribly. Zendall fans of course wont be happy but the way they are writing it right now seems to point towards a possible Zach - Reese pairing and a Rendall reunion. He also doesn't have super strong ties to the main canvas of the show. He has no family, and only has a child with Kendall. If Bianca leaves, im gonna guess she will be taking her girls with her, taking Gabrielle with her so that will be one less tie for him.

I don't really mind, if he leaves, he can go bact to OLTL and be treated properly! Then Michael E. Knight would be safe!

I'm not really sure about it, but it would be cool to see the character of Patrick being acted out by him, as I have never seen the character.

I could take or leave Zach. Always hated him. It's kind of like having a sister/friend that's married to this prick you don't like. You deal with him because you love her.

On a major soap site several weeks ago a soap spoiler was riddled that a big name who was being let go from a primetime gig was going to join the cast of AMC and it was going to re-energize the cast and the show.
Now there are rumors/supmors that Nicolette Sheridan from Desperate Houswives is that person. One site said that she loves AMC and had worked with Charles Pratt in the past and that he was working it out ala Tamara Braun. Since Tuc Watkins is working on DH there is a soapy connection.
Wouldn't it be great if this was true! Some sites are saying she is to be a Liza recast. This would be great for the soap industry and daytime if prime time talents were giving nods. It could be just what is needed to save the genre.

This could be the love interest for Tad and revitalize his role on the canvas so that Zach's leaving AMC and returning to Patrick on OLTL would go off without issue.
