The Biggest Airhogs in Daytime

Soap Opera Network just released their 2008 Daytime Airhog Awards, so I thought I would take a moment to highlight a few of the biggest hogs for each soap.
No. 1: Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke Logan, The Bold and the Beautiful) appearing in a staggering 224 episodes this past year.
No. 2: Steve Burton (Jason Morgan, General Hospital) with 222 episodes
No. 3: Rebecca Budig /Sabine Singh (Greenlee Smythe, All My Children) with 211 episodes for Rebecca and 9 for Sabine.
No. 14: Eric Braeden (Victor Newman, The Young and the Restless) with 177 episodes.
No. 19: Trevor St. John (Todd Manning, One Life to Live) with 171 episodes.
No. 23: James Scott (EJ DiMera/Santo DiMera, Days of Our Lives) with 166 episodes
ABC actors make up nearly half of the top 30, with 11 featuring. These include Maurice Bernard (Sonny Corinthos), Alicia Minshew (Kendall Hart, AMC), Julie Marie Berman (Lulu Spencer), Cameron Mathison (Ryan Lavery, AMC) Kirsten Storms (Maxie Jones), and Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth Webber).
Noticeable absences from this list are Kelly Monaco (Sam McCall, General Hospital), Judith Chapman (Gloria Bardwell, The Young and the Restless), and the entire casts of As The World Turns and Guiding Light. For more hogs, check out the Top 30 list here.
Thanks to Erica'sEvilTwin for the tip.

If Arianne Zuker began airing earlier then April, she would have been on that list.
It is always interesting to see the list. Thanks for posting!

All I can say is...it's a good thing that KKL is on that much. She saves B&B and I don't think she is over used!

I feel bad for KKL because of the awful s/ls and bad dialogue she has to sprouted out, but she is very convincing. I think that the genre needs to stop playing the same damn characters over and over again and balance the show.

So much of the lovely Katherine Kelly Lang and B&B still sucks. Oh maybe because a role called Donna Logan is also mentioned in the list along with Ridge Forrester...

Something is wrong with GH when actors like Julie Marie Berman, Brandon Barash, and Bradford Anderson appear in more episodes than actors like Jane Elliot, Leslie Charleson, and Nancy Lee Grahn!
Also, I cannot believe the writers would prefer writing for the character of Donna Logan on B & B than Felica or Thorne or Katie or well...any other character!
Always soaptacular-

Thanks John and EET - this was a lot of fun to read! And I know a few times we've debated on here and on TFO which actors/actresses get the most screentime, so it's cool to see it in black and white, so to speak.
Interesting that Julie Marie Berman is so close to Maurice Bernard (I think I'll start calling her Sonny 2.0 instead of Carly 2.0 - heehee)...and that the two Carly's are neck and neck.

ATWT is always really balanced which is what I really like about the show.....It's no surprise that GH has so many actors on the list since we all know that Guza can't do too many things at the same time...........
I totally agree with you daisyclover, it really is nice to see the actual proof in who gets the most screentime....it appears many people were mistaken...........
I hope this year brings a lot more balance to the show and that TPTB realize that character overload is totally outdated......we like BALANCE...........

I don't mind Bradford Anderson so much, especially when he's with Kirsten Storms; and Brandon Barash wouldn't be so bad if it didn't mean more Julie Berman.

Steve Burton isn't even trying anymore. You can tell he's miserable and his acting proves it. It's time for him to leave.

GHalltheway I too am glad that this puts a certain debate to rest. Nuff said.
The other name that jumped out at me is the other Rebecca - Rebecca Budig. I dont think SS was on all that much, so proportionally you can see how much GreenMe we were subjected to on AMC. What a flop that return has been and it saddens me that at least for me, AMC remains the least watchable show in the ABC line-up.

I would be more interested in this list if it actually listed minutes and not episodes. Certain characters are on more episodes but for only a split second. That does not translate to me as a person having more screentime than others.
*****Never fear spellcheck. It is your friend.******
I wait with my fingers crossed that the next flavor of the month doesn't have such a bad aftertaste.

True, but would you want to be the one to have to watch the show with a stopwatch and time how long _X_ was on? lol. I am happy just to know who is on the show the most, but i agree having the time would change things around.

What an offensive list. Did they forget Passions was on til August, and Lindsay Hartley was in all of those episodes?

No they didn't forget Passions was on, Passions had 156 episodes TOTAL on dtv, so there is no way anyone on Passions hogged up enough Airtime to even be thought about lol.

The airhog list is just one way of quantifying things - its not necessarily bad to be on the list or good to be on the list - as its probably more a reflection on the writing and preferences of TPTB. Just one more tool to guage things and put a number on things that most of us really kind of already felt - for example I didnt need to see the list to know that Lulu was on TONS.
The only thing I looked it at it for was an idea of which characters swallowed shows almost whole and which characters were on - I think its hard to say a character is on all the time if they arent on the list at all or to say they are never on if they are on the list.
Lets put it this way - 52 weeks in the year is 104 days. That leaves 261 days of the year less holidays, so give or take 250.

I don't agree with you elwood123....
Steve Burton this year did fantastic job !!!!
especially with the all Michael shooting.!
I think that if they will let him go it will be bad !!
About Lulu as much as I think that she did good job with the all Logan's death, I think that Maxi should have get more air time than Lulu!!

Yes Jillian, but in a rude way. Case in point: "there is no way anyone on Passions hogged up enough Airtime to even be thought about lol.". I still wish we had an ignore feature so I could block users I hate.

Awww, c'mon AC, you don't want to block John...afterall, this is his blog, you read it and you commented on it - so you don't really want to "ignore" him do you?? I think you just like to debate

Alister, the title of this blog is "The Biggest Airhogs in daytime" so all I did is say no one in passions hogged up the screen that much, and in reality thats kinda sortof a compliment lol. I LOVED PASSSIONS (pre- "Tabloid truth"), and I hate how it is the little red head soap that people mock, but it's the little red head soap people mock for a reason. ----------- A.K.A. ssjohn

Steve Burton can be in all episodes of the year and I still won't be able to get enough of him. He did a good job last year imho, so I'm not complaining.
